All I can say is this Stephen King classic is a classic for many reasons, and there's just too much going on for me to elaborate on and I'm too lazy to write about them. Highly recommend this on audio narrated by Steven Weber who does a phenomenal voice performance bringing the voices alive.

I am truly amazed at how well this book was written. Sarah Jensen did a phenomenal job of journalism and writing in order to pull off such a daunting of a project to cover the life story of James Herbert Keenan- aka Maynard James Keenan. What I truly appreciated was the semi-personal, mostly objective perspective this biography had. As a fan and reader I felt I understood the whole picture of what was going on along with how he felt. A lot of things came together and made more sense to me as a fan of his music and having attended two shows. I would not recommend this to someone who is wanting just the TOOL and/or Perfect Circle story(ies). This book takes you all the way from his Italian ancestors coming to America, military life, art school, the "rock star we know", all the way up to modern day the vineyards of Jerome, AZ.

I love in the acknowledgements she says that she didn't write this novel for black people and how they experience racism- she wrote it for white people who do not see that side. We all can recognize a skin head with swastika tattoos and call him/her a racist- but it's the everyday actions we go through that we don't even realize are racist.
I had the privilege to see Picoult speak earlier this fall on her book, and when I walked up to her and she signed my copy I thanked her for writing this novel. My thoughts and feelings that I said to her in that glimpse of time still ring true after I've finished it- because her characters practically leap up and out of the pages you really feel the authenticity and I honestly did learn from her talk and this book a thing or two I totally had wrong about racism. ...more

I felt as though other than the war to look forward to and Feyre and Rhysand reuniting, there wasn't much to really anticipate? Let me explain.
(view spoiler)[ No romantic tension between Feysand So because we are already established that these two will be together- the sex scenes were expected (and of course great) but there was no tension or surprise to them. Want to make me suffer and keep turning pages? Throw in a plot twist with this one! (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ NO ONE FREAKING DIES Okay I get it I would've thrown my book out the window should Rhysand or Feyre had died but I found it highly irraitonal and "flowery" that none of our inner circle peeps died in the war. Don't use Feyre's dad as an excuse he doesn't count we never saw him the entire series! War is not all fun and games and everyone getting out alive. (hide spoiler)]
Overall I'm glad for once I finished a 3rd book in a trilogy (rare for me) and I will definitely revist this series in the future. I can't give up Rhys so soon! I am loving the fan art that is coming from this gorgeous series with it's lush scenery and portraits.

May 5, 2016 OH GOD I'M INTO RHYS AND FEYRE IT'S OFFICIAL GUYZ [image]
May 7, 2016 Holy cow this was a huge improvement from A Court of Thorns and Roses. Feyre’s overall character development, the world building, as well as new cast of characters and political elements really beefed up this bland love story. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed ACoTR, buuuuut there was that voice in the back of my head whispering how Tamlin and Feyre’s romance was so purely physical and very little emotion that it robbed the whole meaning behind Beauty & the Beast (this is still somehow a retelling of it).
While it really is no secret now, but I am totally Team Rhysand. I mean you’d have to be pretty naïve to not have seen it coming since the bargain in the previous book, let’s be honest. Why am I for Rhys and not Tamlin? *pulls up podium, opens PowerPoint, and straightens flashcards* I’m glad you asked.
1.Feyre can now be considered a strong female lead
[image]
“I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.”
Feyre’s character development has definitely taken a 180 compared to ACoTR – she’s stronger, more independent, and actually wants to better herself by learning to read and practicing her new magical powers. Rhys actually encourages her to strengthen her powers as well as lets her go out in the field to hunt, etc. with him. I feel like Tam just kept her locked up and was a control freak.
2. Rhys is totally a feminist (view spoiler)[ Did anyone catch that part after they did the dirty when they discussed having children? How it was totally up to her because it was her body? TEN POINTS TO RHYSAND-OR (see what I did there?) (hide spoiler)] Piggy-backing off of point #1- Rhys really encourages Feyre to be her own independent, autonomous being without being someone’s prized possession.
3. The romance isn’t solely a physical relationship I by zero means am a prude- but I feel as Rhys and Feyre’s romance develops, it wasn’t all about sex. There is of course the steamy moments in the book itself (which amazes me at how this is considered a Teen book), but the two develop an actual bond over a physical lusty dirty ineedyouinsideofme all-the-time type of romance. They both respect each other’s bubble and let things play out naturally, at least that’s how I saw it. It just felt entirely like a more authentic romance when compared to Tamlin/Feyre’s romance. There was a gradual build with flirtation, laughter, and jokes all around.

But damn- that ending! I need book three now! I'm feeling so many things and feels! Meanwhile, artists need to get to it because I'm dying to see more fan art! *PS none of the photos used are mine*

I loved diving back into the Harry Potter universe just like every-other Potter head out there. With it came the nostalgia I felt back in 2007 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published and all at once our childhood came to a close, knowing the last time we would experience Harry and his friends would be when part two of the film premiered. So when J.K. Rowling offers up this new story- almost 10 years later- how could a true fan pass it up?
I believe most fans who are disappointed are the ones who don't like that it is a script and not a full length novel. Yes- it is meant to be presented on stage- therefore we lose a lot of internal monologue and emotions that one can't put into body language and voice. When we read a book that has an omniscient narrator, like in the seven original Potter novels, we read more in-depth into situations. So when we see this put into a play, the writers have to literally have the actors portray things that maybe would never actually be vocalized or physically acted out- just in order for the audience to even see it is there.
Overall, I enjoyed the nostalgia Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two brought to me- the snarky-ness of Ron, the wittiness and logic of Hermione, and the ever complicated, heroic, and damned Harry who is dealing with fatherhood. I recommend it to any Potter fan who wants to see into the Wizarding World 19 years later- past what we know from the epilogue (and fan fiction). But for those who wish to keep the "sanctity" of that world, without change, then I advise them to pause and not open this one up.

Which sucks because I hate to compare books- but it was a tad inescapable for me at the moment.
I would put this one amongst the post-apocalyptic, science-fiction books with a tinge of horror. The kind of horror that just sizzles and pops throughout that makes you jump away from the burner- but only for a second. Joe Hill inserted a lot of social commentary on contemporary issues- refugees, for one. What stood out for me was the inevitable result that comes from naive, scared, and powerless people in large groups with one over-ruling leader.
Would I recommend this to my sci-fi and apocalyptic readers? Yes. Horror fans? Maybe. ...more
