Admittedly that is partly my fault I let life get in the way of snuggling up with a good read each night, but I just found I wasn't ever truly hooked on the story or that bothered about finding out what would happen to Theo next. I had too high expectations I think after reading the blurb I thought the book sounded just my cup of tea and then after all the rave review i felt certain I was about to emerge myself in a new favourite. Unfortunately it just never hit the mark for me. I remember reading the exchange between Welty and Theo in the museum and thinking it was going to be the beginnings of something good when in actual fact it went from here to a long narrative that continually took twists and turns for the worse; don't get me wrong I don't mind a bit of real life grit but as previously mentioned I just wasn't bowled over by Theo so found myself almost unconcerned about what was going on around him also because he didn't tend to ever try and help himself. That being said there were moments of the book o enjoyed and characters like Boris who at first I couldn't bare I did end up warming to his charms a little. But this ultimately wasn't enough to encourage me to fall for the book it seems like an awful lot of descriptive writing that in actual fact isn't describing an awful lot as the way the book ends doesn't really leave you with any satisfaction except from the fact you've managed to finish it. ...more

This was certainly that but unfortunately it was just a little too lighthearted for my tastes. I like a soppy chick lit book once in a whole but I like one in which I can relate. Several times this book repeated "you couldn't make this up" or "you wouldn't believe something so far fetched could actually happen" and truth be told I couldn't. It was too far fetched I couldn't find a relatable thread to forgive the outlandish situations Amelia found herself in. In an attempt to find out where she's gone wrong in love she sets on a mission to find her exes and where I liked this premise rather than genuine soul searching Amelia just found a bunch of guys that although perfect and gorgeous when dating them had all turned in to ridiculous unbelievably characters , rather than there being any reflection on her part it turns out it was never going to work not die to what she'd done but because he was now a monk, unchanged, a psycho etc and then after all that she decides what will be will be. It just seemed like a pointless activity with no learning curve. ...more
