The story follows Samantha, who lives in a small town. People like Samantha, she is helpful and kind. She also is a serial killer...
Samantha never kills close to where she lives. She goes to the big city and chooses a random person. One day however, a gruesome murder takes place in her own town. Now Sam has to find the killer before trouble finds her.
I really liked this. I like how cynical it is, how short and on point. My favourite thing is the antithesis between the art style and what it depicts. The art style is very sweet and seems as if it came out of the pages of a children's book. The story and therefore what you see in the pages very much isn't out of a kids book.

I had fun playing along and trying to come up with the solution before it was revealed to us. If you are careful enough, you can get some things right before the detective or Mrs. Marple. Although i must say to get everything correct is extremely hard.
Like the previous Mrs. Marple book i've read, i think this one is also a well written whodunit mystery that should please fans of the genre....more

When they announced the Energon universe, i wasn't sure if i would jump into it. It's not that I dislike Transformers or G.I.Joe, it's the fact that i only know them through the movies. However, when i found that DWJ is going to be the writer and artist, this when on top of my tbr list.
Some of DWJ's previous work like "Murder Falcon and "Do a powerbomb" are among my all time favourites. The expectations were high and I'm glad they were met. Johnson his usual style. A mixture of action, over the top moments and a lot of heart. His art is amazing and providing some amazing panels that almost jump out of the page.

A person wakes up and realises that they have no memory of who they are or where. Things are not looking good. They become increasingly worse as they find out that the world is ruined and mostly populated by monsters.
The plot, at least in the beginning is nothing new, but it's well executed. We have a dynamic trio as leads. Their interactions are funny and that comedy brings a nice contrast to the horror of the situation.
I wanted a bit more world building. There are hints of something bigger happening behind the scenes and i guess in future volumes we will find out more about how and why we are where we are today. Still i think we should get a bit more development. It's a problem i have had with manga before. They are extremely fast paced, it took me about 20-25 minutes to read the whole volume, at the same time the story doesn't progress a lot. So it's good, i just wanted a bit more of that goodness.
The highlight is definitely the art. It's solid throughout and there are some great panels.
I didn't know anything about it and the reason i end up reading is that i met the creator at a comic con. We chatted a bit, i asked him about the plot and he gave me a brief summary. He didn't want to reveal to much, ah he wished the readers to experience everything whilst reading. I respect that. Got my signed copy and here we are. In retrospective i should have bought the second volume too....more

"Florida is owned by Spain. America consists of 31 states. Vampire, ghosts and supernatural creatures are common and benign. The internet is infantile and irrelevant." That's the first thing you read when you open the first issue, and again in the second issue. You'll thing this is very important and that you'll learn more about this alternative world. Wroooong. Yes supernatural creatures exist, the rest is useless information that doesn't play any important part in the story. I wish we would get more of that instead of what we actually got here. Because what we got is just boring.
I genuinely don't like leaving bad reviews, but i also have to be honest. It has so many things going on ( the alternative world and creatures and world end scenario ) yet it offers so little.
Maybe if i cared at least for one of the characters, i would get a bit more invested. They felt so flat though.
I will end in a positive way by saying that the art is fine....more

All the books so far follow a pretty similar formula. Nothing wrong with that, after all your fans expect specific things from the books. I think this is the first time we see the formula change a tiny bit. Which is good.
The threat that our heroes have to face this time feels way more.. well threating. Thus far they had to deal with someone with a grand plan to bring back some ancient gods, kill people and rule the world. This. Now ( spoilers from now on ) they are dealing with the Remnants.
The Remnants are dark shadowy souls? They were all locked in a room because they are looking to possess humans. After they stay 4 days in a host they are fully bonded and became the host. Kind off. So all the Remnants escape and are loose yo bring havoc to the world. As the story progresses it's clear that this time the Remnants don't go out randomly posses anyone,, but rather work out a scheme of sorts for something. Even without a grand scheme in the picture, this still is the most interesting situation Skulduggery and the gang have to deal with. There is always tension, because you don't know who is normal or possessed. Even when you do, you have to find a way to fight them. You don't want to become the next host obviously, at the same time you can't go all out, because the person you are fighting is an innocent host. Difficult situation to say the least.
Not everything can go perfect for our protagonists and not everything did. There are some dark moments and i really want to see how things are going to be resolved. I will be very surprised if the future of some characters will left the way we see here in the end...more

My only problem is ( spoilers from now on ) the way they use Toranos, who is the bad guy here. He is this all powerful god, he is visually scary and his physical power is greater than Thor's. Yet.. the only two times that we see him, he gets defeated. Both times not by sheer power but still. There is potential to the character and i would like to see more of him in the future, actually doing things. Like i said , i liked the writing and the art. If the next issues are even better, we can go from talking about a good run to a great one....more

Not only that but he also is being mistaken for actual Spidey, who is nowhere to be found. Now Yu has two choices, to let people down and let them know that he's not Spider-Man or step up and be the hero. Something that is much easier said than done. This plays out like your familiar origin story, although it's not technically an origin. You have someone who has his life change completely out of nowhere. A fish out of water. He has to find the courage to use the powers he have ( here it's only the suit, Yu doesn't have superpowers), to fight villains and put himself in dangerous situations. At the same time he can't this affect his normal life too much and even more importantly he needs to hide his identity. The author does a good job showing how hard is to balance the superhero life with your daily life. How you have to seem confident when you do something but at the same time complete panicking. Like in other manga i have read this has a fast pace, maybe too fast for my taste. Also some of the dialogues are a bit off. Don't seem that natural. The art is more than good. I recommend this, it's about something you know but said in a completely different way....more

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I haven't read anything recently with Red Sonja, so this was a grab just to pass some time following everyone's favourite red haired warrior. It turned out to be more than decent. Red Sonja does what you want Red Sonja to do and the villain is a believable threat. The art and colours are good too....more

I hope we'll get to see more of this world in the future, because this run was good.
I really liked the medieval approach, i was genuinely invested in the story and most importantly i had a good time reading it. There are high stakes, secrets and revelations, some good character arcs and some fan service moments. A bit of everything really and done fairly well in my opinion.
Of course it's not perfect, there are some issues. Too many characters to balance, even more in the second volume with definitely no time to develop them all.

Huxley through his dystopian world addresses a lot of social issues, there is definitely some food for thought here.
The strongest part is the beginning, when you learn how they do things in this future. After you see how everything works it gets a bit anticlimactic. I was waiting for a moment that never came. Maybe a reason i wasn't so invested is that there wasn't any character to relate to.
Still recommended, there is enough here to make your time worth spending....more
