The fact that this book only has 88 ratings is straight up criminal, this book was fanastic. I know there is a prequel but I read this one first because well it was written first and I felt it worked great.
I kind of don't want to give away too much of the plot but the main character is the driving force of the story, he is a bit more aggressive/angry/crazy(especially when he starts getting low on sleep) compared to other space opera heroes, and his fears will be a constant theme of the story....more

Lets start with the good: the premise, the setting, the worldbuilding, the setup for this story and the world building in it, is great it's well done and believable premise with a solid setting.
The problem is that it just isn't that fluid, the combat is actually pretty meh despite all the cool work put into the tech behind it, and it feels too split up behind narrators that IDK I felt could of been chosen better. It's hard to place exactly what I find wrong with it other than it feels like an early work. All those negatives aside it's a good read and you should pick it up, I feel I'm being harsh on it because this had the chance to be a standout 5 star but it just fell short....more

Then there was all the clunky dialog, well I read tons of terrible webfiction so I got a high tolerance for that. Then there was the nonsensical plot and characters. I don't get anyone...nobody is relatable, nobodies actions make any sense I just can't believe any of this. It feels like a crappy eve-online fanfiction as someones first attempt at writing. Like this is subpar for webfiction quality let alone something that is even on amazon with a good rating....more

I read a ton of lit-RPG/portal fantasy into game world, and this was easily one of the stronger entries. Basically instead of overly focusing on grinding/gaining skills. Those just kind of happen as the main character is desperately trying to survive as he finds out it is a trap and the admins don't want him alive and/or sane. The fact that it's a sci-fi setting is a nice change of pace as well. But this is actually recommended to everyone not just lit-RPG fans....more
