When I couldn’t focus to read anything else, I was absorbed. As I ran out of vocabulary to describe the pain, I found insight here and new ways to describe the ache lying deep in my core.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie lost her father suddenly in 2020, and as a writer often does, she picked up her pen to help release some of the anguish. Her raw and affirming prose left me feeling seen and understood.
It goes without saying I highly recommend Notes on Grief to anyone who has experienced the loss of a parent. Thank goodness for authors who gift us with words when we are stricken and bereft with none.

Ellie has begun working in animation when she meets Jack in a bookshop (!). They lose touch, and Ellie has her hands full with life stuff piling up. She’s working in a coffee shop when the owner, Andrew, proposes a fake marriage so he can help them both financially. Andrew introduces Ellie to his sister, who just so happens to be Jack! Who or what will Ellie choose? Love or money/safety?
I laughed. I had all the feels. I loved Ellie and her journey. I loved the tropes. I loved the sensitivity with which Alison Cochrun addressed social and generalized anxiety and emotional abuse.
Overall, I absolutely loved Kiss Her Once for Me, and you have to meet the grandmas! ...more

When I asked for book recommendations for comfort, easy, lower focus, or any favorite reads, I received lots of reminders about cozy mysteries. I read this one before my dad passed away and now I’d like to read some more cozies.
Speaking of comfort: I just love this Tita Rosie’s Kitchen cozy mysteries! Enjoyable, easy-to-read, yummy Filipino food, so much to love here. I can keep going. How about the Christmas backdrop?
You can read any of these as standalones, but they are much more fun if read in order. I’ve enjoyed watching Lila grow and evolve as a character. Plus, there’s an adorable dachshund! I love the characters so much that the mystery is an added bonus. A series well-deserved of all the love it’s receiving.

I love that it’s a smaller size and doesn’t have a dust jacket because I feel like that makes it sturdier for all the love and use it receives. The Comfort Book is ideal to reach for when you are tired but can’t sleep because the short and thoughtful passages can be read quickly, and just as the title says, each and every one provide nothing short of the comfort promised.
Emotional intelligence is a construct we talked about more often as a society. Matt Haig is exceptionally introspective and in tune with his own emotions, while also having a gift in the way he expresses, such that I feel seen and understood. I can’t think of another book that’s similar. It is absolutely not a self-help book in the traditional way we think about them. I’ve still not read it from front to back, though I know I’ve read some passages, especially those on which I’ve placed a dart, many times over. It’s hard not to mark them all for later.
I absolutely love this little book, so much so, I ordered a second copy in the form of the UK edition. Now I can’t decide on a thoughtful place to put it. ...more
