Prince & his bodyguard/best friend who's a bit of an obliviot in terms of understanding feelings. Yes, every bloodguard thinks that their ward is the most beautiful person on the planet. Totally normal.

This had such a strong start, great relationship development and showcasing of how each lead was so enamored with the other. Unfortunately, the ending felt way too rushed and there were so many things that could have used more information on.

Their bond turning from pain to pain & pleasure - can we get more information on as to why? Could we have more than just a scene or two of them 'testing out' the pleasure elements? The ending felt a bit lower stakes, and I'm happy for them and their HFN but it didn't feel too satisfying compared to the dark and sinister breadcrumbs of their kingdom only for a clean and swift end. There's also a severe lack of animals in this compared to the first three books. The dream falcon didn't really have any character, and the fellcat minor appearance I wanted so much more from!

I'm just a bit unsatisfied with this one, and it pains me to say so! Still a 4-star read, but it could have been a million stars, ya know? ...more

However, the romance in this was sweet and hopeful with just a sprinkling of action/suspense going on. More in the "a book that I read" energy. ...more

This was surprisingly fun! The humor throughout this worked for me; it was dark and dry, which is always a good time. Vampire bodyguard and assassin w This was surprisingly fun! The humor throughout this worked for me; it was dark and dry, which is always a good time. Vampire bodyguard and assassin who, gasp, inadvertently becomes bonded to the creature he kills. The bantering and bickering of the two of them binded to each other really did add to the story.

Warning to romance readers: the lead MC has explicit sex with multiple other people throughout this book, and this appears to be a slow burn and mystery of who the actual LI will be. No HFN or HEA at the moment.

The plotline and shenanigans in this are entertaining enough that the lack of romance worked, if that makes any sense. There's some murder, some incubus's, horny magic, and a fish named Kevin who is beloved by his owner. Lots of sass, plenty of bickering, an assassin who says whatever is on his mind.

Kirt Graves did an excellent job narrating. It takes a bit of skill to make bickering with yourself sound realistic and humorous. ...more

This starts out interesting but ultimately loses intrigue near the 75% mark, and I stopped caring about the plot or romance. Probably not going to continue on.

Somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars - a fun uptight human bodyguard and bratty vampire romance.

Looking forward to whatever chaos the plot has coming next.
