I read this book when I was very young. I enjoyed it then too. I was very fascinated by all the exotic places around the world that are mentioned. South of France, Mesopotamia, Constantinople, Bagdad (then, not now). I remember being so fascinated with these places and wanting to hear more of them. Perhaps that is how I got the travel bug. I loved the setting of travel by train. So exotic. Perhaps that is why I took a train ride across Switzerland for my honeymoon. My husband went willingly when I told him he could ski. :-)
I love the story. I did read this before but wanted to listen to the audio version this time around. The audio is just wonderful. I love all the accents that the narrator uses. I've seen the movie version of this one so many times. I had those characters in my head as I listened to the audio. Could not help it.
A simply wonderful story that Christie weaves into this one. Poirot is quite the character. For anyone wanting to try out Christie, I highly suggest this one and check out the audio. You will not be disappointed....more
I have a confession....I was not a huge fan of the Potter books as they were being released. I know, shocking! There was so much hype, I just did not I have a confession....I was not a huge fan of the Potter books as they were being released. I know, shocking! There was so much hype, I just did not want to read them. I saw each of the movies and loved the movies. But knew that I should eventually read the books. I also got the full box set as a Christmas gift one year, so it was time. But I was not in a hurry. One book a year in December would be fine for me. I have enjoyed reading the books prior to Order of the Phoenix. But this book was huge, and I'd pick it up and put it down for something else. Then I decided to listen to the audio and that was it....I was hooked. The narrator Jim Dale is amazing. I enjoyed his narration so much, I want to start at the beginning with book 1 and listen to him.
I will not go into the details of the story as this has already been done so much already. Perhaps it started for me with this book, Order of Phoenix, that I see how very different the books and the movie are. As usual, the books have so much detail, stories that are skipped in the movie. J. K. Rowling weaves an amazing story in each of her books. And anything that gets kids so into reading is huge in my book.
I'm looking forward to listening to the remaining books in the Potter series, and then starting again from the beginning....more
