Beautiful calming illustrations as usual, they highlight the prose wonderfully. It is pitched well at the target audience, but I do feel some of the more serious aspects of the artist's life could have been explored in more details.
Overall a lovely introduction for children to one of the world's greatest artists....more

She is recruited by the Resistance, and what follows is the story of how one young girl makes a difference to the war effort.
Well formed characters take the reader through a number of traumatic events that are sensitively handled by the author. Beautifully written descriptions help the reader to visualise, but I did feel it was very slow going at time, and felt a bit repetitive.

I would definitely advise reading the previous books in the series before this one to get the full story.
Alongside old favourite characters, this time round we meet Emma, who gives up her teaching life to run a farm with fiance Grayson. Along the way, she decides to create an alpaca walking business - this was especially well researched by the author!
At the start, I couldn't figure out how Emma tied in with the characters from Willowdale Hall, but Jessica tied the threads together beautifully. A lovely read, a great addition to the series, bring on book 4!...more

After many failed introductions,Sara is encouraged to join an Internet dating site by her two daughters, after losing husband Pete many years before. After many failed introductions, she meets widower Bernard by accident - she is at a cafe to meet a different man, and finds herself speaking to Bernard instead. What follows is a quick romance, which sees Sara moving into Bernard's isolated cliff top home. However, his life isn't as smooth as Sara's - his relationship with his two children isn't as smooth as the one she has with her daughters, and he has a secret he is reluctant to reveal. Can their fledgling relationship survive the events that follow?
I really enjoyed the descriptive sections of the book, the locations were beautiful. I also really liked the relationship Sara had with her mother in law. I found it a bit predictable however, and I wasn't too keen on Bernard's character. Overall, a quick and enjoyable read.

I didn't know anything about her before reading this book, and found it to be very informative for something so short.
Wilma was one of 22 siblings, who caught polio at the age 4 and then went on to beat the odds to win multiple medals whilst fighting for racial equality. The book is a great addition to the series, with fabulous illustrations, easy to read prose and perfectly pitched at its target audience....more
