That there would always be a dividing line from who I am now and who I used to be. Who I was before.”
Summer may be slowly turning to Fall, but as our main character, Charlotte, knows, grief is a never ending spiral that knows no real end.
Charlotte is a young woman who has decided not to go back to school, but instead heads off to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to visit her best friend, Evie, and her family at the Inn they run after her father's passing.
Evie is dealing with some big life changes of her own, and in the midst of that, Charlotte gets entangled in a love triangle between Evie's brother, Nate, and her own cousin's boyfriend, Michael.
The situation guarantees that she will hurt someone, but does she love either of them at all or is she just using this trip as a way to run away from real life and distract herself from her grieving?
When you think of someone grieving, you probably think of them not being able to fully function in their daily life, but really it's a lot more complicated than that.
Her father was always on her mind, and her sadness expressed itself through different actions, not crying and being outwardly sad. She had a lot of internal anxieties only known to the reader, and it's scary how little we know about what people are thinking when their outward expression says otherwise.
This book was well written. I loved all the characters and everything felt so real. It was a deeply beautiful book about love, loss, and how to process it all....more

I think the problem with it is that the actual 2 people you are supposed to be rooting for basically never get the center stage while you are reading. It just becomes like a, "and they lived happily ever after" without you actually seeing their connection grow because she's with the other one majority of the time.
Still couldn't get enough of it though; I find it hard to finish series' so for me to finish this says a lot. I could not put it down!!...more

Love a book where the avoidants realize that letting another person love them and loving another person in return doesn't have to be this big constraint in their lives.
I think I would have liked it more though had I started the series from the beginning, because I felt like I was just thrown into the story.
Even though you can read it and follow without having read the other books, I think it always helps when you read them in order if characters and their development means something to you like it does to me....more

I believe it wouldn't have been so bad had this book not been marketed as a romance because the romance was non-existent. I swear, it felt like it was trying to make fun of them as a parody of one!! There was zero chemistry, and zero investment by me in their success story.
Additionally, there were too many characters I didn't feel invested in, and the dialogue at times felt cringey to me. It was repetitive with the describing words and that always takes me out of the story too. I didn't like how we had no idea how she ended up in this fictional town - either it was not properly explained or I missed it, but either way that lessened my enjoyment on top of everything else. It probably wouldn't have mattered if I wasn't already annoyed.
What I did like was that she ended up there at all - it would be really cool to get stuck in your favourite book and meet all the characters. I also liked the twist about her love interest, I didn't see that coming.
My rating is pretty much purely for the idea of this story, but the execution I did not like at all, which I'm sad about because I loved The Seven Year Slip! Not ready to give up on Ashley Posten just yet, I hope I enjoy her next one more....more

Win and Bo have a one night stand at their mutual friend's Halloween party. Before this night, they had never met, and didn't intentionally plan on seeing each other again. Then Win becomes pregnant from that one night stand, and Bo immediately steps up to the role of a soon-to-be father and makes sure Win is well taken care of throughout the pregnancy.
This plot summary is not doing the book justice at all. I had never read a book with a surprise pregnancy trope before this, but from what I gather, most people don't like it. This one made me wonder why, because I really enjoyed these characters and the maturity and care with which they handled the whole situation.
Both of them have disabilities, and the representation was amazing. These characters are the embodiment that anyone can look at you, but not everyone will choose to see you. And I say choose, because it really is a choice to take a person and consciously try to understand them from the depths of their soul - and not only the good parts either, but the messy parts of their past too - and that's what these characters did for each other.
Just a really delightful romance; one of those books that makes you believe in soulmates, and that's a rare occurrence for me.
I highly recommend you put this at the top of your romance TBR, it's worth the read and I was in love and hooked from the first pages....more

Her video blows up, and the man's grandson comes forward, offering them all to meet. Little does she know that his grandson is Theo, the boy Noelle had a little academic rivalry with back in high school.
Paul, Theo's grandfather, asks to go on a road trip with Noelle and Theo to explain their story and finally see all the places they were meant to visit on the honeymoon they never took all those years ago.
I loved every bit of this, it was the perfect mix of emotional, heartwarming, and spicy. I enjoyed that this book was not just about the romances (Paul and Kat, and Theo and Noelle), but about grief and family, and how starting over isn't always a bad thing. You never read about grandparent/ grandchild relationships in romances, but it was really comforting as someone who misses theirs.
I teared up at the end. It was just really, really sweet. Highly recommend ...more
