Narrator Helen Laser did a wonderful job of narrating The Wedding People. I listened at 1.75x. This is my fourth book by this narrator. I have enjoyed all the books she has narrated. They include If Something Happens to Me, Yellowface, and The Second Chance Year.
Bookish Thoughts: I wasn’t sure what to think of this novel that started off kind of depressing. Phoebe Stone has hit rock bottom and runs into a wedding group staying at the same hotel she is at. Thankfully, Phoebe’s story takes a positive turn when she is befriended by the future bride. This book is hilarious, thought provoking and full of witty banter. There is some explicit language that I didn’t care for but overall I enjoyed this emotional story about love, relationships and overcoming adversity.

I read this book slow and savored every word. I was invested in this story from the beginning. Every time I put the book down I was thinking about the characters. Someone was always suffering, hoping, searching, judging and loving. I felt every emotion imaginable. This novel is why I read books… to meet new characters, to travel to places I have never visited, and to immerse myself in their story.

I was captivated by this multigenerational family who struggles with identity and what it means to be an American. This was a more character driven story in which the development was outstanding as events unfolded. Told across a span of several decades, I really enjoyed this book and came to really connect with the characters. As far as the ending, it was good and left me feeling satisfied.
