Healer to the Ash King is The Selection for naughty girls, sans the love triangle turmoil that came with the America/Maxon/Aspen triad. I mean, the Ash King was a bit of a little bitch, and there was some jealousy drama, but we kind of expect it from someone who belongs to a book series called Dark Rulers.
The best thing about this series is that you can pick up any of the books, in no particular order and simply based on your mood, and would always find something for you. In this, I found everything I needed in that moment. For example, the MMC is basically a grown up Cardan Greenbriar with bad maneers and long white blond hair. Chef's kiss is an understatement. Cailin is a badass and she just doesn't take anyone's shit. We absolutely love a heroine who can stand up for herself. The enemies-to-lovers aspect of the story is well done; it's clear as a tropical sea that these two have the hots for each other, right from the start, but they try to hide it well. I appreciate that they became reluctant allies before they gave in to their carnal desires. I like my smut dirty and filthy, but give me the hint of a deeper bond beneath the sexual surface, and I go all mushy.
Kenney's writing has easily become one of my favorites. She can craft the most quotable lines with the simpler words and manages to make you squirm with a glance between her main characters. If that's not what talent means, I've been reading the wrong books.
There also is some good queer rep in this. I love that one of the contestant is a beautiful trans woman, and that two of the previous rulers were a gay couple who adopted a son, and nobody is making a case out of it. You can tell inclusivity was the goal, and I can't help but praise the fact that it wasn't forced nor there for the sake of plain diversity.
Overall this book wasn't perfect, but it's perfect for me. Many thanks to my Fishy for recommending me this book/author/series. What would I do without you?

Solstice is definitely a great addition to the series. I'd go as far as to say I loved this more than Daughter and Guardian, but I wouldn't fully trust my judgement if I were you, because I'm infinitely biased for adoring this novella and you can blame Rhyan's character for it. And Jules, too, OMG???? I'm so glad she was part of this because I've always wanted to know more about Lyr's cousin, and was pleasantly surprised to find out she played such a big role in this story, and as was as much of a good friend to Rhyan as she was to Lyr. I wish we got to see more of his friends, but I was very pleased to read about uncle Sean, about Rhyan's past and his deepest thoughts and fears. Being inside his head made me crave a double pov so bad I don't know what I'll do once Lady comes out and I'll have to spend all the time in Lyr's mind. Not that there's anything bad about it, but...it's not the same thing, and if you know Rhyan, you'll understand. Most importantly, though, I'm impossibly shocked by what I learned about Rhyan's relationship with his father. I mean, I knew it was bad and the man was a total jerk but we're talking about a real fucking monster, here, and my heart broke for everything poor Lord Sweetheart had to endure or all the things he had to give up to to survive and to protect those he cared about. I think Rhyan's dad is competing for Asshole of the Century. It's a tie between him and the Regent from Captive Prince, and I'm honestly rooting for both. To end up rotting. In the darkest and smelliest limbo. In hell. Forever.

A Prophecy of Undone ARC, here I come! ______ january 2023 Everyone and their grandma was either reading or praising this and I felt left out so I peer-pressured myself into it. Or at least that's what I told myself. We all know this was all Richard's fault. And also a little Deema's. And why not, Koisty will be blamed as well, considering she's the one who started it all. Wherever lies the blame, I'm glad I caved because this book was EXQUISITE and I'll never not gush about it or recommend it to everyone.

I'm pretty sure if you look anywhere for the definition of book catnip, you'll find this title. There are so many reasons why I started this and couldn't stop, but one of them is that this simply and plainly is an agglomerate of everything I adore in my romantasy books. It was obviously recommended to me by Koisty, who has become my official rec dealer, who always seems to know what I need to read and in which particular moment.
It took me a little to clear my way into this book's world building. The lore is intricate and rich with political intrigue, which you obviously need to appreciate to properly enjoy this book because trust me when I say there's a lot of politics and backstabbing, and the terms and names flow is infinite. Once you finally get a handle on who's who and why they do what they do, though, you'll want to know more and more. And, yes, you'll be very frustrated when, at the end, instead of answers you'll end up having more questions than when you started. But it's okay, because the book in its entirety was ...more
