I can't believe this duology is already over, like...what do you mean there's only two books? I'd read a thousand novels about Nico and Milla, and I'd probably read a few about the rest of the Attano family, as well, included a prequel about Nonna, if there ever was one! Seriously, I can see myself hyping this series up till the end of my days, because it was just that good. The sequel picks up immediately after the first installment and it doesn't give you the chance to take a breath. I found myself overwhelmed by what was going on because there was literally always something going to shit happening. This book is basically the opposite of boredom and it took a few years off my lifespan, especially towards the end. Those last 6 chapters were pure torture and I'm going to send Alexis Menard my hairdresser bill when I'll have to cover the grays her evil mind procured me.
I unfortunately didn't adore it as much as the first book and I think it's because it was really packed with endless adrenalinic scenes that sometimes were too fast-paced and that gave the fluffiest moments an edge I wasn't expecting. I also didn't really vibe with how the truth about Milla's true nature was handled. I have so many questionssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss???????????????????????????
On the other hand, the romance was just as exquisite as it was in House of Bane and Blood and I can't get enough of these two idiots who are so in love with each other they make me wanna barf rainbows. I love them and their relationship so much T___T Menard's spice is so enjoyable and soooooo hot. The office scene was pure fire and the carriage one also made my stomach clench so many times (except I still don't know how I feel about that whole false hand update business lol - I'm pretty positive Milla enjoyed despite what I think about it). I wished we had more sweet moments and, why not, I wouldn't have minded a couple more smutty ones, either. If only Luther wasn't such an immense cockblocker.
Plotwise speaking, there is very little I didn't like. The first part was so entertaining and interesting, both in terms of character depth and story development. I loved seeing Nico and Milla fight to come back to each other, because there's very little they wouldn't do to be together and it's the thought of spending eternity together that guides their actions, making them unhinged and completely reckless. We love a morally gray FMC just as much (possibly even more, really) as we love a morally questionable MMC, in this household. And Milla is a total badass. Another thing I wanna praise the author for is how she managed to create conflict in and outside the main relationship without throwing unnecessary drama or meaningless break-ups in the readers face. Every time shit hit the fan I kept bracing myself for heartbreak, but it never came, and it made me appreciate the romance even more. Not that this prevented my heart from being broken. Fuck my life, there were moments that really had me worried. Aramis, if you're reading this, I hope every side of your pillow is always warm.
In conclusion, this was the perfect conclusion to a perfect duology that I'll never stop recommending. I can't already wait to re-read it....more

Son of the Drowned Empire is a filler book but also a journey that is impossible to skip if you're a fan of this epic series. Being inside Rhyan's head, getting to know his deepest fears and desires, learning about the scars in his soul, is an experience. An angsty, brutal one, but it was all about Rhyan and I was totally here for it.
Was all of it necessary? Probably, but not definitely. There were things I would have rather not known about, others that broke my heart and a few that drove me a little mad, but this Rhyan POV was e v e r y t h i n g, and it made me love Rhyan even more.

First of all, the Arthurian legends+Mermaids+Pirates mix was so well done I could have read a thousand more pages of this story. Schumacher's writing is simply exquisite; she knows how to build a scene and how to create the perfect setting and atmosphere. I love the three main characters equally, and totally appreciated that each one had a distinctive voice and how their stories were tied to one another. If I had to pick a favorite, though, I'd go with Arthur. I have a soft spot for soft boys. Romance was impossibly cute. Everyone and their grandma knows I need my books to have a heavy side of romance, and while both romances (beccause there are two! bless schumacher's heart) are chef's kiss-done, they're not very prominent. Not a problem, really, because the story itself is interesting and entertaining enough as it is. The only "problem" I had was with the pace at the beginning, that was unfortunately a little too slow for my tastes. Luckily, both the story and the pace picked up and I was able to enjoy my ARC properly....more

I'll be quick and try to keep this as vague as possible because it's an ARC and because it's an anticipated read that I don't wanna ruin for anyone.
A Prophecy of Undone is hands down one of my favorite sequels. It was so full of action my eyes were barely keeping track of everything that was going on on the page. The found family trope is so well done I didn't even care I had to wait 200 years for the main couple to finally acknowledge their mutual attraction. Mara is amazing. Still a little raw at the edges, but she's getting there and we love her for her determination and kind heart. Cyfrin rivals Aelin's Rowan when it comes to self-control, and that's everything I'm gonna say about him. Holy slow burn, Batman. I'm still sweating over that bathing scene. El, Kain and Milios deserve the world.
Plotwise speaking, this was overall very interesting but also kind of a filler book. There never was a dull moment, though, and the plot benefited from it. Again, great job, for a second book. It takes talent not to let a sequel bomb.

And when the sun went down, and Oraya stirred and blinked blearily at me with those moon-bright eyes and asked, "Sleep well?" I just kissed her forehead and said, "Perfect." After a few days, and after I've had the chance to properly sit down and think back about this book, I've sadly decided to take down half a star from its initial 4-star ratings and round it down to 3. While I've had fun with this and still consider Clare Sager and her writing a gift to humanity, I couldn't get past some technicalities, and had some problems getting through the second part. The first half of the book had me excitedly enthralled; I could never really relate to Kat, but I liked her character despite and because of her faults. The plot was interesting and the romance kept me on my toes. Unfortunately, the pace started slowing down and the scenes became repetitive. I still had no trouble finishing this and reading it didn't feel like a chore, but I wished it kept my interest alive like it did at the start and there were a few things that don't make much sense I wish I could overlook, but inevitably can't. As much as I loved the romance and was totally into Bastian's charm, I felt like something was missing about his character, something I can't pinpoint. I also expected more groveling, on both parts and there were moments I felt bored with it all, and didn't find the characters fascinating enough to keep me guessing their next move. But, of course, it had its good and very enjoyable moments, too. For one, Sager's dialogues are always exquisite. I love her banter so much and her writing is easy to follow and not pompous at all. The spice was simply excellent and some of the first interactions betweeen Kat and Bastian were so full of sexual tension I had butterflies. I also loved the Beneath Black Sails references and Vice and Knigh's appearance. I've already mentioned that Kat and I don't resonate on a deep level, but I appreciated how tenacious she was.
Overall, this was very entertaining and I'm pretty sure I'll read the second book when it comes out. Clare Sager proved once again that she knows how to write a spicy story when needed. The fact that I buddy read this with the Glitchread Girls, made it even more special.

A Prophecy of Undone ARC, here I come! ______ january 2023 Everyone and their grandma was either reading or praising this and I felt left out so I peer-pressured myself into it. Or at least that's what I told myself. We all know this was all Richard's fault. And also a little Deema's. And why not, Koisty will be blamed as well, considering she's the one who started it all. Wherever lies the blame, I'm glad I caved because this book was EXQUISITE and I'll never not gush about it or recommend it to everyone.
