M Scott talks about the universe being governed by entropy which states, "lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder" however, evolution is the opposite. Disorder to order. It is easy for a river to flow downstream however for it to flow upstream work has to be done. Therefore, there must be something in life that does work in order to fight against entropy, what is it who knows maybe God maybe Love maybe even aliens who knows?...more

I liked the begining because the author clearly conveys the importance of promises and trust as one of the fundemental foundation on which a nations economy grows. I was suprised to the extend at which economists go to justify their results. To an extend economists reason the versitudes of an economy extraplating all the factors they can to come to a inference is what I got from this book....more

Being in charge of birth and death on a daily basis pAdam Kay writes what's on his mind without holding back which makes his stories genuinely funny. Being in charge of birth and death on a daily basis puts immense responsibility in the hands of doctors. Throughout his book I've learned being a doctor is not about what you know, that comes naturally with practice, but rather about handling pressure and making decisions in a very systemic and logical way; coming to the best inference based on what is known at that time. Adam Kay is a very funny guy and I thoroughly enjoyed reading his book....more

I very much enjoyed reading the first half of this book as Bertrand Russell shows his enthusiasm for ancient philosophy in part l, ll & lll of book one. This however gave me a false sense of security as I thought the rest of this book will be written in a similar fashion and so was hyped to carry on reading. As I went through book two, regarding Catholic philosophy, it was clear Bertrand was starting to loose his enthusiasm as quite large chunks of text became dryer than the Sahara desert. Nevertheless, I enjoyed book two because it revealed the titans of Christianity without which the religion might have perished. Book three was nothing more than seeing which parts I could skip. It got to a point where I refused to read certain pages in the hope I could finish this book. Going from perfectly written in the beginning to having to skip tens of pages near the end inorder to maintain Goodreads pledge of 40 books this year is how I would describe this book....more

What I got from this book is the brains ability to create new pathways to respond to unprecedented situations, thus always adapting to the environment (neuroplasticity). It's not eyes that see, not the nose that smells, not the tongue that tastes, not the ears that hear, not the skin that feels but the brain; quite ironic that it's always in darkness. The book inevitable came to an end on the topic of consciousness which I found interesting....more

The book is very well written, easy to read and clear. Not once did it meander off topic. Perfect beginners guide to meditation! "Several ancient cultures devoted a lot of attention to the study of of mind, and they relied not on collecting reports, but on training people to observe their own minds systematically. The method they developed are bunched together under the generic term meditation. Today this term is often associated with religion and mysticism, but in principle meditation is any method for direct observation of one's own mind."- Yuval Noah Harari in 21 Lessons for the 21st Century ...more

Once you realise you're just a product being sold you'll definitely think twice about using social media. Is it right companies such as Facebook make money from what you do on the internet? These companies have to balance on one hand being for the people and one the other hand being for coperations....more
