This is another MM hockey romance from Rachel Reid, just Christmas related! The romance is... so soft. There’s nothing crazy or angsty that happens. It’s a very low-key, low drama type of book, but the main characters are adorable. Landon has just joined the Calgary team as the backup goalie, and he’s a bit of a loner. His total opposite on the team is Casey, who’s the superstar right wing. He’s bi, bubbly, and a total himbo. He offers friendship and a room to stay in his big house to Landon, so these teammates become roommates! And they crush hard on each other, though they try to hold back because Landon has never really confirmed to himself about his sexuality.
There’s not much of a plot to this honestly, but I liked the romance so I didn’t mind it too much. The steam is great – Landon, who's a virgin, gets to learn all these new things about himself. What did bother me sometimes was Casey’s character. He’s the sunshine to Landon’s grump, but sometimes he was just too much. And there are way too many descriptions of him sleeping with other people before he and Landon get together. This book wasn’t perfect, but it was a very sweet read....more
I wanted to give one of Sarah Blue's omegaverse books a try (since that’s what she’s more known for), and it was okay? I didn’t love it, I didn’t hateI wanted to give one of Sarah Blue's omegaverse books a try (since that’s what she’s more known for), and it was okay? I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. This is a hockey/why choose/omegaverse romance with one heroine and 3 heroes. Charlotte is an omega with a lot of abandonment issues that very predictably come back up throughout the romance. The 3 heroes are alphas and hockey players, and the 4 of them are scent matches. Things seem to go perfectly, but something happens that causes their pack to break up. There’s a lot of time jumps because of this, and I just had a hard time connecting with the story here. I liked the idea of a hockey omegaverse romance, but I didn’t think the romance was executed as well as it could've been. There was great potential for it to be all angsty and good, but because of the time jumps, we don’t connect with the characters and I wasn’t feeling the emotions as much as I wanted to.
The writing also didn't do much for me. It's all telling and no showing, and I'm not a fan of this type of writing because it’s so... boring to me. It doesn’t make me feel or connect with the story and characters, which was my struggle with One Pucked Up Pack....more
Fangirl Down is the start of Tessa Bailey's new sports romance series, and it's a golf romance of all things! We have a professional golfer named WellFangirl Down is the start of Tessa Bailey's new sports romance series, and it's a golf romance of all things! We have a professional golfer named Wells whose terrible attitude causes him to fall from grace. His number one fan, his biggest fangirl, is Josephine... but when he quits, that means she has to give up on him.
Wells shows up to Josephine's front door one day and offers her a crazy proposal, where if she becomes his caddy and helps him with his golfing game, he’ll split his winnings with her so she can get her golf shop up and running.
If you love grumpy heroes, Wells is grumpy to the MAX. He literally doesn’t like anyone except for Josephine, and even with her he’s reluctant. But they spend days and nights together on the road for his tournaments, and their chemistry keeps building. It’s a Tessa Bailey book, so you know it’s instalust and these two are SO horny for each other. It’s hot, fun, and a good time, which is generally Tessa Bailey's MO. So I really enjoyed this one!...more
I finally got to reading CE Ricci with Iced Out, and it was such a fun M/M college hockey romance! It's hot, exciting, and if you love enemies to loveI finally got to reading CE Ricci with Iced Out, and it was such a fun M/M college hockey romance! It's hot, exciting, and if you love enemies to lovers, you need to read this book.
Quinton hates Oakley because he thinks Oakley has been handed everything as a hockey player legacy. Oakley hates Quinton because of his terrible attitude towards not just Oakley, but to everyone, and he constantly gets into fights and arguments. But for the past four years of college, they’ve had to put aside their differences and play on the same college team. Unfortunately, they don’t put aside their differences enough, because the way they act off the ice affects how well they play together, which is... terribly.
But then one night at a party, Quinton and Oakley end up hooking up. They win their game the next day and they realize that them having sex is the reason why they won and now they HAVE to hook up before every game now. They’re SO horny for each other, it’s kind of shocking they never got caught. It’s a hot enemies with benefits relationship, but it was so sweet how the enemies relationship slowly developed into one with genuine feelings and love.
The only thing that dragged was the middle because it didn’t seem like there was anything going on but sex. We barely got to see a hockey game again until the end. And the ending was predictable and cheesy, but I forgive it because of how cute the main characters are together. It was so sweet how Quinn used to be the tough guy who hit first, asked questions later, but thanks to Oakley, he learns to calm himself down and not get so heated. And then Oakley used to be a stickler for rules, but after being with Quinn, he’s a lot more relaxed and spontaneous. They were perfect together!...more
