I enjoyed how the book treated subjects such as : caching, security , consistent connections and proxies.
The book was kind of a let down from the investors perspective.I was expecting some really brilliant ideas from the 'Oracle of Omaha'.The book was morThe book was kind of a let down from the investors perspective.I was expecting some really brilliant ideas from the 'Oracle of Omaha'.The book was more focused on managerial should's and shouldn'ts.It mostly boils down to Bufett's stance as to why Berkshire Hathaway is the greatest company and how awesome are their policies compared to the typical corporation.
Not pretty much to learn if you are interested in learning the in's and outs of the market.
I must admit however that the author did a great job in the last 3 chapters when discussing on subjects such as current accounting practices , goodwill and taxation.
Overall a book designsted torwards general managers or people with out of the ordinary financial resources.
If investing it is you are interested in then i suggest grab a copy of Peter Lynch's One up on Wall Street ASAP !...more

While reading it , it might (hopefully) occur to you that there's a whole new world out there , at a total different scale with problems that need solving that you could not even imagine ( Multi Paxos , Resource Planning , Borg , Big Table etc...)
I see this book as a creativity additive before all else....more

Peter Lynch does an awesome job in splitting stocks into 6 categories (slow ,fast growers, stalwarts, cyclicals,turnarounds and asset plays).
After separating them , he goes on explaining what to expect from that category and what indices really matter on the financial statements.
On top of that he provides real decisions that he has made during his career as director of Magellan Fidelity investment fund.
There's one thing to read in a random book about the balance sheet and there's another to read on how he bought Ford stock in 1987 based on analysing Cash vs Long term Debt.
These examples are abundand and are godly for the novice investor to get the nuts and.bolts on how the stock market works.
Terrific read , i reccomend it wholeheartedly !...more

Ce mi s-a parut de mare interes este originea protagonistului si a camarazilor sai: un biet pustan neamt de 19 ani care impins la spate de dascali si cunoscuti s-a inregimentat.
Scrierea este clara , iar paginile zboara deoarece majoritatea mustesc cu actiunea frontului si intamplari de zi cu zi ale soldatului german .Descrierile sunt cu advarat autentice.
O recomand cu caldura atat celor pasionati de aceasta perioada tulbure cat si celor care vor sa isi forneze o idee !...more

It provides no real direction into how to handle "things" (which is a testament of the futility of self development books) in everyday life.

There was however a point in the book after which you start to understand the story, and eventually get used to Llosa's style of narration.
The author does a good job hiding important pieces of the story-puzzle and keeping them until the very end.
The book at the core is about a teenager that hits puberty and wants to rebel against his rich and everloving father by joining a communist party (dad being one of Odria's main supporters) , followed with running from home and dropping law school , becoming a journalist and severing all contacts with his family.These decisions will haunt him later in life.
The book was ok but not as good as the reviewers made me believe.The ending was bitter....more
