Absolutely brilliant. Want a formula for a great book that touches people and sells like wildfire? Just create a protagonist so likeable, optimistic, and incredibly resourceful that you can't possibly not root for him on every line and page of his staggering, life-threatening challenges. Some reviewers have their quibbles about the book, but not many writers have put the formula onto the page any better than Andy Weir in The Martian. I only hope the movie is half as good as this wonderful, memorable book.
