Poor Mark. He just can't catch a break. First, he gets knocked out by a piece of flying debris, then this fellow crewmen leave him for dead. And the only shelter he has is designed to last for thirty-one days, yet the next mission to Mars will not be for four years.

But never fear...Mark is here! Using all his resources and ingenuity, Mark turns into the MacGyver of Mars. With a limited supply of food and water, he starts his own version of homesteading before moving on to restore communications. But Mars has other plans for Mark and nothing ever goes like planned.

As for the story and the character elements, this was a solid 5 stars. As for the tech stuff....my eyes did go a little catty-wonka a few times, but I just glided right past those parts and everything worked out fine. I would still pick up anything else Weir writes in the future.
