it was amazing
bookshelves: anthologies, favorites

Wonderfully well-written, I really enjoyed this collection of short essays. What is the 'Anthropocene'? The proposed geological epoch that we're currently living through, that kicked off when humans began dominating Earth and changing it (for better... or worse). These essays cover some of the most random topics: the QWERTY keyboard, Nathan's hot dogs on Connie Island, penguins in Madagascar, Canadian geese... all connecting back to the contradictions of contemporary humanity. We have the power to shape our world, but at the same time we are frail and temporary; this world can take us down in a moment's notice.

One of my favorite quotes:
💡 "I know we've left scars everywhere, and that our obsessive desire to make and have and do and say and go and get - six of the seven most common verbs in English - may ultimately steal away our ability TO BE, the most common verb in English."
