First time read of author Lou Berney. I couldn't put the book down - and then what? Now what? Why? Unique storyline, unforgettable and relatable characters - known a few people like them. Sad how there are children right now being abused with no one to save them. Giving that data in the book has readers realize the sad state CPS is in. I truly "felt" the main character Hardly's heartfelt attempt to save the children's lives. The ending: wow! A mind blowing, unexpected end. I was surprised and disappointed although still, this story is a captivating one. Will read another of this author.
