Bit of a mixed bag. Feels very different from the Baru Cormorant books (or at least the one book that I've read). A really complex alien invasion story full of jargons and technobabble, a story that has multiple interesting ideas, but not too many interesting characters (which is why, if you enjoy The Three Body Problem books, you might enjoy this), so it's easy to understand why this book is relatively lower rated.
