This read like outakes from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, not a coherent novel (or novella). The first half with Americans in outer space is insufferable. The second half in the factory is vaguely amusing and made me think about aging and youth for a moment but is mostly disconnected from the first half. All of it was mercifully fast and my eight year old enjoyed it--which counts for something. (We read about half and listened to about half on Audible.)
