๐๐๐ฏ๐ข๐๐ฐ:
This was a ridiculously fun fantasy with low stakes and a glorious ragtag bunch of adventurers determined to complete their quest and break a curse.
I found this hilarious. I read other reviews which describe the humour as juvenile and Iโm inclined to agree but also inclined to admit that I absolutely love that brand of humour. There was something endearing about the lighthearted interactions coupled with a dark Elizabethan setting of London with plenty of murder.
The adventurers themselves consisted of main characters, Fang and Lazare, their unconventional new powers after they literally get murdered at the beginning of the novel, a sapphic Welsh potion maker, Nell, who would absolutely be my best friend if she were not fictional, and an adorable and ravenous small dragon called Amber who has a heart of gold and a constant rumbling belly. I loved all of them from their characterizations to their dynamics. The characters make this novel so enjoyable.
Readers all also treated to a small slice of perspective of Captain Honkensby, a royal guard who is a swan with fabulous investigative prowess. Though this POV was unexpected, I adored it, I hope she features more in the future novels.
I canโt wait to see where this series goes. If you enjoyed the humour in Assistant To The Villain, you will love this.
