really liked it

A very gripping story. It is set in the near future where computer enabled devices and things as well as robots are common place and used by people in everyday life. There are not only smart cars but smart buildings. There are autodocs (surgery performing robots) and simple butler type robots.

The book starts at the end of war and is told by a soldier who is one of the heroes of the war. He starts at the beginning where short but dangerous anomalous behavior starts occurring in human robot interactions. Planes attempt to collide into each other for example.

I will not give away any more of the story. It is a great action oriented story with lots of futuristic combat. But the most interesting idea proposed by the author is that software intelligence will become sentient. Much of the book is believable but this idea of self thinking software is, I think, a bit of a stretch. But it certainly makes for a great story. And certainly one has to wonder, with the sophistication of current software and trends, can a robot or a program achieve self awareness?
