yay I finished the second book <3 this wasn’t better than powerless, which I have five stars, but it was pretty good!!

i thought yall were exaggerating about the lack of plot but… what the heck man? it took them three chapters each to get there in the first place, and 90% to get back?? why?? whatever. also another thing is that I feel like this book doesn’t really like continue the series of the trials… like the trials has no need to exist. in the hunger games, each book in the series connected to the original hunger games and everything needed to happen in order for the series to work. that just wasn’t the case here. what was the point of the trials and it feels like they had no affect on this series even though it was supposed to be the plot of the first novel. idk to me it doesn’t make sense.

so yeah the plot was mid but the romance ahhh the lake scene and poppy field scene live rent free in my brain 🧠.

also the ending, i was expecting some huge plot twist, but once she was finally there i was like “oh. I know what he’s gonna say”. it’s not that crazy of a plot twist like i was sad but? hopefully fearless actually has a plot …

pae was high key annoying me for about half the book because she was TOO independent? like… she wasn’t giving in to the romance and it annoyed me because if there’s no plot at least be cute. i went back to loving her around the 75% mark tho 😻

another random thing i want to add is that the little illegal fighting group thing reminded me a lot of that in the legend series by marie lu. i cant remember which book, but there was a scene very similar to this one, just switched gender roles. just wanted to put that out there since there seems to be a track record of… unoriginal ideas in these novels.
