4. Buttered Popcorn
book based on a TV series.
Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii (Mr. Monk, #2) by Lee Goldberg 4 stars 4/4/2016
This was a fun episode in the Adrian Monk series. Natalie goes on vacation to Hawaii to see her best friend and thinks she's leaving Monk behind. Until, she sees him on the plane and found out he took an anti-OCD pill and followed her. Of course, trouble followed him. It was fun reading about him experiencing Hawaiian traditions such as luaus. I especially enjoyed him tangling with the TV psychic. Definitely not serious reading, but a fun "brain break" for sure.
11. Island Punch
(setting: Sicily)
The Wings of the Sphinx (Inspector Montalbano, #11) by Andrea Camilleri 4 stars 4/20/2016
This is my first Inspector Montalbano book (even though it's book 11 in the series) but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the backdrop of Sicily and its people and culture. I particularly appreciated that the Mafia background was present, but was not the defining element of the story. That made the storyline more interesting. Plus, Montalbano is such an interesting character. I really enjoyed this book.
9. French Vanilla
setting: Huey split his time between his home in New Orleans and Baton Rouge
Kingfish The Reign of Huey P. Long by Richard D. White Jr. 3 stars 4/27/2016
This was an okay book about an interesting man. The information was very well-researched. I'm from Louisiana and I'm very familiar with the "Huey Long School of Politics", but even I learned new things from this book. For instance, I never knew the animosity between Roosevelt and Long. I did like how the author tried to explain all sides to the story. He did not blame Huey entirely for everything and pointed out things others did that were just as bad (or worse depending on your perspective) as Huey in Louisiana. My main complaint was the author's writing style. He appeared to be going for an episodic type story. He tried to explain Huey's life as a series of episodes. The problem was that sometimes the chronological story got lost and confused in the episodes. Once I got used to the style, I was able to enjoy the retelling of the life (and death) of our very own Kingfish. I would have liked a little more information on the assassination and the aftermath, but that wasn't the author's focus in this book so I understand why he moved quickly through it.
3. Bubble Gum
main character is 10 years old
Number the Stars (Yearling Newbery) by Lois Lowry by Lois Lowry 4 stars 6/10/2016
I really enjoyed this young adult book about the Holocaust. It was very age appropriate for middle grades. The dangers were made clear without being graphic in nature. It was interesting to read how all members of the family played their role in smuggling their Jewish friends out of Denmark. I also appreciated the author's note at the ended explaining what parts were fictionalized and what parts were real.

Thanks Koren,

Good questions Koren and Marti,

The answer to your questions is yes and no.

Yes, if you are talking about using your books for the other challanges, like the spell-out, birthstone, or scavenger challenges currently going on. Most definitely used your reads for the other challenges.

If you are talking about the other two options of the Jelly Bean challenge, the answer is no.

I hope this answers your questions, Koren and Marti.

:( - if the task ask for at less 50%, I would lend towards your favor. But when the task ask for predominately color cover, which usually means 75% or more of the cover in the desired color. The book looks like it has some pink and the rest looks kinda smoky in color with a purplish tint.
Thanks for asking Koren
