Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments APRIL 2021 SHOPPING LIST PLANS

Have plenty of coffee and should have it fine before the read-a-thon - also the same with my "tea cabinet" - will replenish staples like sodas, milk, coffee creamer, chips, salad ingredients I like to always have around the house. Also want to make my Raisin bread to freeze but this may not be in time for or relevant to the read-a-thon. I always get cheese, crackers, and chocolates for the read-a-thon. Still not sure what I'll do for dinner but it may just be a full snack-around day with all this food sampling in small doses anyway. I also want to treat myself out to a lunch and the local coffee shop for a bagel, so I'm not seeing food as being any kind of issue at all!

I am not only making these for Read-a-thons, but company in May so some of this will be frozen for later, but have time to make and test some of these new recipes now this week before the read-a-thon. Some will be remade for the read-a-thon if I like it well enough, it's more of a sampling week since I have time to pre-make, shop, cook, and freeze and it's going to be even busier for me after the read-a-thon. Forgive the large volume but hopefully I find some keeper recipes.

Ingredients purchasing for:

Sour Cream Coffee Cake with Cinnamon-Walnut Swirl
From Website, Adapted from Zingerman's Bakehouse Cookbook

Spiced Apple Muffins
Once Upon a Chef Website, adapted from King Arthur's Flour

These are KEEPERS. We all loved them. Planning to make more for company as these are almost out. Frozen the rest for the read-a-thon.

Oat Muffins with Pecan Streusel
Once Upon a Chef Website, adaption from Cook's Illustrated

Made Thursday night - very yummy! My mom especially adored them.

Banana Nut Muffins
Food Network

These are decent, but definitely not the best or even close. They are small and nothing special, so won't be remaking these.

Healthy Black Bean Dip
Once Upon a Chef

Made Thursday - will be a great, light snack for Saturday

Spinach Quiche
Eggsecutive Order by Julie Hyzy

Garlic-Green Bean Bundles
White House Chef Mysteries, Hail to the Chef by Julie Hyzy

Made and didn't like much

Mini Red Potatoes with sour cream, cheddar, and chives
White House Chef Mysteries, Hail to the Chef by Julie Hyzy

Made and they are good, mini potato skins -- froze some for the read-a-thon

Bacon and Cornbread Muffins
White House Chef Mysteries, Hail to the Chef by Julie Hyzy

These were edible but not that good, no one really liked these, threw the rest away

Cucumber Slices with Feta and Pine Nuts --- may make the day of
White House Chef Mysteries, Hail to the Chef by Julie Hyzy

Goldy's Dream Cake --- Decided to make this next week instead of for the readathon
Catering to Nobody by Diane Moss Davidson

Better than Cracker Barrel's Hashbrown Casserole
Aunt Bee's Recipes

This was delicious and a hit! Froze some for read-a-thon morning

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments PLANNED AUDIOBOOK TBR

I prefer shorter, easier audiobooks for Read-a-thon day and always use to wake up and usually first few hours since I am not a big morning reader or morning person. Also used during walks, cleaning, projects, and driving to destinations, or doing computer updates.

One is a children's middle grade by Christopher Pike, easy read at 2 hours
One is a short story by Josh Malerman at under an hour and a half
The last is over 6 hours and is highly recommended creepy story

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments For the Coffee Cake Recipe, I want to try to make some of these and freeze one for the Read-a-thon day, share another for "samples" with parents

Sour Cream Coffee Cake with Cinnamon-Walnut Swirl
https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes...

I love cinnamon and the walnuts look delicious. I need to get the ingredients for this. Will post pictures if I end up making it, hopefully within the next few days.

I have plans to go to friend's for swimming on Saturday, but otherwise have time for cleaning, shopping, and cooking this weekend and next week.

I need to make several homemade breads before my aunt and uncle come down, and it's perfect time to do in time for read-a-thon as well, especially the cinnamon raisin bread. Yes, bread is sadly fattening, but it's pretty for company and special ocassions.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I'm thinking of testing a Quiche recipe from the White House Mysteries by Julie Hyzy. My aunt and uncle are coming down on May 12th, so this weekend may be a good time to test it. Hm

And on the plus side, I got in my new tea light Teapot warmer to keep teapots warm, which should come in handy during the read-a-thon as well.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I'm hooked on the Psychic Eye series by Victoria Laurie lately, so will work on that today. Was really wanting to finish The Stand before the read-a-thon starts also, but we'll see.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I spent too much money and tried to make too many things at once.

Made on 4-15

Bacon Cornbread muffins - these were edible but no one was really crazy about them, threw away rest
Mini Red Potato Skins - these were good, mini potato skins, froze the rest for read-a-thon snacks
Hashbrown Casserole - Everyone loved these, froze a portion for the read-a-thon
Green Beans wrapped in bacon - These were edible but no one was crazy about them, won't be making again

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I have now made two muffin recipes

The Banana Nut Muffins were good, but not fantastic or delicious, so I won't be keeping these as a recipe to make more of in the future

The Apple Harvest ones though? Truly excellent, everyone has loved them. The batch only made 12, and most are gone. I have some frozen for read-a-thon day. I plan to make more of these to freeze for when company arrives. I need to buy 3 more apples to get this done, thankfully I still have all the ingredients for more.

I haven't tried the Oat ones --- I need to get things sorted with my food processor and haven't had the time to mess with it.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I got distracted the past 2 days by an Urban Fantasy paranormal romance series that's on Kindle Unlimited and is cheesy, a soap opera, and absolutely addictive. That put my plans of currently reading that I wanted to finish before the read-a-thon completely to the side. As usual. Still have no idea what my TBR will look like when the big day arrives.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments One home project I'd like to complete it working on my shower/bath tile this week. I want to have it finished before company arrives in a few weeks, and would be nice to get it done this week in time for the "book bath" planned on Saturday. We'll see, though. It's not a major issue either way, and this week looks incredibly busy with work unfortunately.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I found out that one series I follow and really enjoy has released a new book in April on Kindle Unlimited, Scales N' Spells by AJ Sherwood and Jocelyn Drake. Perfect for Read-a-thon days since these books are easy to sink into and I love this series. I will add it to the official TBR list.

Blood (Scales 'N' Spells, #3) by A.J. Sherwood

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Good grief, I really despise the new beta book page. It was rolled out to me today without choice to stay on the old one.

It IS awful, as it the new book pages rolling out on Amazon that makes the search feature almost impossible for reading challenges.

message 25: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Apr 20, 2021 08:56AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I meant to make the Goldy's Dream Cake last night but saw how many steps it had, and also need to work on my food processor, so I probably won't get to it until Wednesday or Thursday night. I might be able to sneak the coffee cake in for today since it's easier. Still have to do my grocery store trip for get more apples for more muffins, and also some random drink refill supplies (and cat food!) for this weekend.

Everyone keeps trying to make plans with me Saturday and I keep telling them, sorry, read-a-thon day :D

I'm at the point where in one way I'm anxious for it to get here, and in another way I still have a lot to do this week so it's flying by. At least it's a FUN busy week. My friend and I are going to do our first Echo Show live call yoga session after work today, so that's also something to look forward to.

I agree! I mostly use it on a computer because it has more features than the app. The desktop version on mobile is too tiny to try to read and I end up pushing the wrong button lol.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments New Instagram prompt is up.

one is the bookmark craft, which is also on bingo. Think I'm going to do a tape bookmark craft for something easy and cute.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Okay, Black Bean Dip is not pretty but it was delicious as a new recipe. Covered and put in fridge for snacks with Tortilla chips for Saturday.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Thursday night also made Oat Streudel muffins - delicious!

Just tomorrow left, have lots of random stuff to do, but work will at least be calmer.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments I'm going to find a Youtube video today with easy stretches to start tomorrow morning, in addition to some yoga stretches throughout the day, and will make sure to take a few walks as usual. With this extra sugar consumption and laying around, will need it. May also get up energy to do some audiobook with a home project that needs done that I don't get to today, we will see.

Your tbr is looking great too. I'm not really into dragons, so I haven't read the Scales 'N Spells series, but I have enjoyed Sherwood's other books. Actually... I haven't read the latest Jon's mysteries book, so maybe I should add that to me readathon tbr. And I keep meaning to read that Kai Butler series. I like his gay regency romance in space books. lol

Ack, I always do this. I have a perfectly serviceable and manageable readathon stack, and then a day or two before the event I go manically add to it until it's out of control.

I haven't read Sherwood's other books besides Scales 'N Spells but I love this series -- lots of humor and quirkiness and each book has a completely different kind of MC, it's awesome

If you ever do read them let me know

Speaking of snacks, today is my last day to whip up some of the planned foods and about to start soon 0_0

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Okay, update.

I made the Quiche and at first I didn't think it turned out, but it solidified over the past 2 hours better. Still needs some tweaking but it was my first quiche and has a good flavor. I will hold back a little of the spinach next time, though.

Second, the Cinnamon Swirl coffee cake is crumbly but very good and all have enjoyed.

I had to go out for a bit, and got back later than I planned, so now plenty to do to wrap up readathon plans. Going to start charging the electronics, clean the kitchen, and get together some random items needed for tomorrow. I will keep checking back until bed but otherwise will see everyone tomorrow.

Happy first hour and Read-a-thon, everyone! The first hour is wrapping up soon and swiftly

I could not fall asleep when I planned last night, but managed to get up by 745 for the read-a-thon which started at 8 am here EST.

As is usual for me, I start with a children's audiobook while doing computer updates on GR, Twitter, FB, Instagram.

This morning I:
🌎Posted Hour 1 Reading Prompt Challenge on Instagram here
🌎Posted opening survey on FB group
🌎Read the opening blogpost from the person hosting events this morning
🌎Checked in on Twitter with photo update and wave
🌎Answered questions in the Goodreads threads, and recommended some ambience videos here

Now, the important stuff:
Made Peet's Coffee a bit too weak this morning, but sipping on my second cup.
I'm not as crazy about this narrator as others I've heard with kid's books, but The Secret Path by Christopher Pike isn't bad --- listening to with Scribd subscription

Thank you. I usually sleep in and start later as well but today wanted to start on time and nap later. Either way works by mood and schedule. Having fun so far and pretty awake now. Just took a small gaming break with the end of this audiobook, which really isn't that good but works for the purpose.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Jennifer wrote: "That is quite a list accomplished already! I did a sprint for the first hour, and made a quick trip to a local restaurant for breakfast. Now I am settling in and checking in on the website, GR, Lit..."

I know, it's already a busy morning - so many fun events going on. I'm thawing out hash brown casserole now, already hungry, and on 3rd cup of coffee, which was sadly brewed a bit weak. Just checked the Webkinz account with audio, haven't done any of the twitter parties yet. Already third hour and time is already flying by of course

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Finished the short audio for The Secret Path, 3 stars and that's being generous.

My initial morning plans have changed, so right now I already started the short story, Decorum at the Deathbed, while still on computer.

🐦 I'm going to listen and participate in the Twitter hosted party at 11 am

I ate the casserole portion and it was delicious, glad I did not save a huge portion so it was not heavy.

Have not done stretching routine or morning walk as of yet, but soon.

📷 📷 Will be SKIPPING the Hour 4 Instagram prompt on building a reading fort -- too much work for me, I am not reading in a specific cleaned up spot right now, and don't have time to build something up on the bed (wondering on what supplies I'd find to do this), but will participate in others.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments Hour 4 - 11:30, about to take first break and mini nap that I had planned. Despite all this coffee, getting a bit drowsy and I like to take my breaks earlier.

Did not do stretching or walk yet, but this would be a good idea after mini nap to wake me back up.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1064 comments 1:35 Update --- Almost Hour 6

Just woke up from my nap and I feel great. I was able to lightly sleep and woke up recharged and rearing to go again. Listening to audio again while doing some updates on social media, then will go and read on the porch a bit, starting with

Killer Insight (Psychic Eye Mystery, #4) by Victoria Laurie

While the weather looked harsh today, it's actually pretty nice outside with some clouds and wind despite the 89 degree weather. Looks cozy on the porch, I'm sure the cats will come plop down on me soon since they're stretched out on the porch chairs right now.
