Another possible theme is Misplaced in Time. Sometimes it is due to traveling at a significant portion of the speed of light, sometimes from suspended animation, rarely it is an actual time machine. In any case, our main character arrives often decades later than they left.

Here are a couple to start us off.

The Long Way Home by Sabrina Chase
A Galaxy Unknown by Thomas DePrima

Is there a book you like with this theme?

Suman Saha (suman_saha) | 46 comments Quantum Space by Douglas Phillips, which I nominated for Limited BOTM of July, has a similar concept. Although I can confirm the extent after reading.

Many hard sci-fi books with space travel at relativistic speed feature time dilation, which is a realistic concept of Einstein's theory of relativity. One such book is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

Many other books show other reasons for time misplacement, but most of them are sff.

Trike | 706 comments A World Out of Time by Larry Niven does this with relativistic time dilation.

Directly inspired by that is We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor, a variation on that theme.

Lizzie | 303 comments Most of the time traveling stories I read (which was a long time ago), the travelers come from the future into the past. Andre Norton's Time Traders series was one of the first I read as a kid, which theme was the Cold War. She also had a couple of books that the main character was a Native American using his people's ways to guide them, which was on a ship. Then she added telepathic dolphins to the mix. They were written in the 60s. When I looked it up, I saw that there were new releases in the 90s, that I haven't read.
