John LeCarre is the only name I recognize from the list. I suppose it's because well known for writing in the genre I like. I keep telling myself to check him out.

I believe I only read one Ian Flemming James Bond novel. It was Goldfinger, and it was a page-turner.

Their books are always unique and smart snappy dialog.

I find many best seller authors to be formulaic and common (aka Patterson).

message 47: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Classic - Jane Austen
Modern (tho she's written historical pastiches) Jane Rubino

There are a lot of authors I was loyal to for their first books and then fell off. Lee Child is an example. I loved the Reacher books through about 10-12, but just did not like the last few. Also thought "Red Dragon" and "Silence of the Lambs" were great, but didn't like Harris' most recent book. Actually, I think writers who kept on giving you what you expected from them were those who knew their limitations and their category, like Mary Higgins Clark or Barbara Cartland.
