Tammie | 4171 comments Hey everyone…I'm really excited about reading and completing the wheel challenge with you all.

What do you think of our theme?...Daisy Jones and The Six is a book I really enjoyed...wondering if you all have read it? I grew up in the good ole' days of Rock 'n Roll, so I really connected with the book.

I live in the St Louis area and work in Real Estate…the crazy times have ended and I'm working at a more manageable rate at this time. Have had a bit more time to read recently anyway.
My husband and I are empty nesters and we love to travel.

I’ve done wheel several times…if you haven’t, I’ll encourage you to read the rules a couple of times. Questions…please ask here! Let’s discuss our best strategies and ideas. We’ll be using the team TRACKING SHEET to enter books into, so if any of you are uncomfortable using a spreadsheet, let us know and we can set up a thread for completed books if needed. Either way is fine, but spreadsheets make this easy for keeping track. I did post instructions for linking books to the SS in one of the posts above. The Working Spreadsheet (WSS) will be available soon :)

I think I’ve friended you all. If you could post your wheel book list LINK here that will be helpful. Your captains will use this list if we need to track down a completion.

A few questions to chat about as we work toward our start in less than a week!

Do you like to chat about books? Share ideas and recommendations? It really helps our team if we're all engaged...not only will it help our team do well...it will be fun.

Do you all have any favorite bands? A couple of my favorites are Bon Jovi, Queen and Heart.

What book do you plan to read first?

Excited!!

**Don't forget to mark this thread for notifications :)**

Jodie (JT) (jodiewolfbane) | 123 comments Hi all im jodie

Unfortunately i have never read DAISY JONES & THE SIX but i now plan too. I dont really have a favourite band but you cant go wrong with queen. I have a broad and mix music taste. I say i had to growing up i would be hearinf anything from country to meatlaoaf to garage music. Must admit still not a massive fan of garage or dance music but i do like some thanks to step dad. My mum loves motown and ub40. If i put on music its most likey be older music or country then anything else. My real dad is obessed with elvis if i was a boy he wanted me to be called aaron-elvis, jessie and origanally Priscillia. I ended up getting my name because my nan kept playing jody got your girl by jonnie tayler and he couldnt get the name jody out his head.

i will let you know once ive been through list on what i will read. Space opera not my favourite gener not going to lie but this is why i do challenges to push me out of always reading simlair stuff.

Link to my challenge shelf wheel challenge

Enough of my rambling for tonight

Alyana | 1004 comments Hi everyone! My name is Alyana and this is my second time playing the wheel challenge. I had fun the first time, so here I am.

Daisy Jones and the Six was the first book I have read from TJR and honestly, I didn't like it that much but after that, I love all of her books, I guess this deserves a reread and I'm pretty sure I will have a different opinion after.

I live in Queens, NY and I work at our public library (I love my job!) I love listening to audiobooks, watch shows, movies and traveling with family.

I am comfy using a spreadsheet as I have my own to track my reading and other stuff. I like chatting about books and give some recs. When it comes to bands, I'm not that knowledgeable of them as I prefer solo artists except for boybands 🤣

I have books planned until the end of the year so I don't mind changing some if it's needed.

Here is my wheels shelf

P.S.

Hiya Jodie and Kate!
I played with Jodie on Ocean Layer Team Challenge in another group and Kate was my captain at my first wheels challenge.

Looking forward to reading with you all!

I love to plan my books too Alyana...these challenges always send my plan a bit off as well...welcome!

I'm way pre-boy bands...

I do think Daisy Jones could be hard to relate to if you didn't grow up during that era. I hope you all enjoy it if you try the read. I read her Malibu Rising book earlier this year...really liked that one as well.

IT IS!
I think we should all read what we love...there's a couple a can recommend that I loved...and I'm a romance/thriller/mystery type reader.

A couple of my all time favs
The Martian by Andy Weir Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir <- both by Andy Weir...the Martian is very funny and a super fast read. If you can get it on audio...the narrator is fantastic. Project Hail Mary is good, but it's super technical...I can't believe I kept up with it!

A few that I've found with lots of romance tags too
Fortune's Pawn (Paradox #1) by Rachel Bach Nightchaser (Endeavor #1) by Amanda Bouchet Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer The Calculating Stars (Lady Astronaut Universe, #1) by Mary Robinette Kowal ...I'm not sure I can get any/all of these yet...but they looked pretty good...if anyone can recommend, I'd appreciate the info :)

I'm a romance/thriller/mystery junkie too so it's really challenge for me to look for scifi fantasy books. I might give The Martian a shot, I will look for the audio, thanks for the rec Tammie.

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1860 comments Hi all! My name is Kaley and I live near Indianapolis, IN, (US) with my husband and our fur babies. I see a lot of familiar names on the team so for those I’ve been on a team with before, glad to be reading with you again! And for those who I haven’t, glad to meet you! :)

I have not read the book that inspired our team name.

But I do love chatting about books! Romance is my favorite genre, but within it I can read most different sub genres (contemporary, historical, fantasy, etc.)

As far as bands/musicians go… I am a big Taylor Swift fan. And showtunes. I don’t listen to music a whole lot these days though because if I’m listening to something it’s usually an audiobook or a podcast.

I’ve been really looking forward to A Light in the Flame coming out, so I’ll definitely be reading that during the first week if not the first day — it comes out November 15 but I will need to double check the difference between the countdown and that release to see if I’ll try to squeeze something in earlier :)

I’ll post my shelf tomorrow when I’m on my computer!

Cindy | 118 comments Hello everybody! My name is Cindy and I live in Colorado with my husband and baby girl. I work in a hospital pharmacy so I try to fit in audiobooks as a I can and read ebooks/books whenever I get the time. I pretty much read anything and everything although I don’t think I have read any space opera so I’m hoping I can find something to read. I read more romance than any other genre though.

I have not read the book our group is named after but it had been on my TBR for a while.

I won’t be able to post my shelf until tomorrow when I can get on the computer

Jodie (JT) (jodiewolfbane) | 123 comments i also would recommend The Martian i enjoyed that but much easier on audio when doing house chorse then reading it.

anna hacket books i looked the series i was thinking of has a mpg of space oprea but only 7 taggs so no good for the challenge unfortunately. im not against space oprea just normally only read them for challenges thou i really did enjoy Dune Dune (Dune, #1) by Frank Herbert but if space books are not your thing i wouldn't recommend it because its a heavy world building and has 658 pages so long going if its not something you like

unfortunaly i read both of these already this year

Tammie | 4171 comments Kaley Cindy and Tory...Hi...

So far I've decided to read Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer ...it looks YA-ish, but I'm hoping it's a quick read.

Going to check out Dune (Dune, #1) by Frank Herbert ...not sure if I'll have the time for it...guessing it's like Outlander where the page count is probably double what a normal page count book it...so many awards though...tempting!

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Ya'll have been busy tonight! This makes me really excited for this Wheel!

I'm Kate and Wheel is my absolute favorite challenge. I'm loving the theme so far and I enjoyed Daisy Jones and The Six - not as much as some of her others but definitely thought it was good. I love how some of her characters pop up in each of her works. Has anyone read her newest?

I live in semi-rural Oklahoma (smallish city in a very rural area). I was late to the party tonight because I had a big work event so thanks to Tammie and Jodie for kicking us off! I am in charge of all programming and training for the Episcopal Diocese in Oklahoma. I work in OKC 2 days a week and the rest I get to work from home which is a great balance. Commuting gives me some good audiobook time though! My husband is a farmer and we have a combined family - 15 year old step-son and my husband just adopted my daughter who is 9. We are BUSY but really happy with this time in life.

I think this is my 5th or 6th Wheel - something crazy like that so any questions you have - I'm happy to answer!

Favorite genres are historical fiction, contemporary fiction, romance, fantasy, and I read a good number of non-fiction books across various areas. I'm not a Space Opera fan generally so I will need to think a bit about what I want to read and take some suggestions!

Bands - I'm so out of touch (confession time - we got invited with a friend to see Greta Van Fleet last week and I thought it was a country singer! Oops! Good thing I like rock!) For years my favorite was Dave Matthews but not sure what my favorites are now. I listen across genres for the most part.

Excited to play Wheel with you all!

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 240 comments Hi again. This week was pretty hectic with setting up and running the Scholastic Book Fair at my mom's school (she's an elementary librarian). Absolutely one of my favourite times of the year.

As I mentioned before, I'm Tory from Michigan. I'm currently a student in accounting. I've done several of the wheel challenges and love them.

I remember seeing the cover for Daisy Jones & The Six but I never looked closely at it. Sounds like it could be interesting, though the 70s generally aren't my thing.

I don't really follow bands but I would have to say my favourite is a local one called Stone Clover. They're kind of Irish rock-ish. I guess I could say I like Alabama and Brooks and Dunn. I grew up with country and go a little old school. I've also recently gotten into Skillet.

I enjoy chatting about books. I really like when there's engagement in these challenges. It keeps us motivated.

I was trying to find a Star Trek book for Space Opera but the most I could find was 6 tags. I guess it helps to find something more people have read. I'm going to keep searching. I did like The Martian, so that's a possibility.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2093 comments Hello team...sorry for being such a late-comer to this challenge but RL got in my way. I've been sick the past few days and need to be well for a trip to Mexico on Wednesday!

I love Wheels and can't wait to play it again!

Vicki's Wheels 7 Shelf

I live in the Central Valley in California. I'm a retired high school teacher (thank goodness)! I couldn't have dealt with the technology/ZOOM etc. that they've had to do since 2020.

Happily married to Scott for 22 years (my second marriage). I have 5 children (3 girls, 2 boys), 22 grandchildren (12 boys, 10 girls) and 5 great grandchildren with my 6th due on December 7th and it's a girl so that'll be 3 great boys and 3 great girls! We like to keep the numbers fairly even. lol

My favorite genres are historical fiction, psychological thriller, thriller, mystery, sports romance, romance in general, some fantasy but just can't really get into sci-fi unless it's not "hard core."

I am not happy with space opera but who's complaining? I will have to look at my choices but I might read The Martian again since I have it but I already read it in March 2021 so I'm not sure yet.

I plan to hopefully plan out some reading tomorrow assuming I'll feel better!

I am not a sci-fi person, but I read this way back in 2013 so don't remember a lot about it except that Cinder is a cyborg (14 I think) and I don't recall it being "really young...no" Even though I am not a sci-fi person I did write on my review that I thought it was a "must-read" so that says something. That being said, we all have such different taste but I do think it's worth reading the first book and see how you like it. If you listen to the audio, it's only 10 hours on the slowest speed. That's how I read it and I enjoyed the audio but it's free on KU now. If you decide to read it, I'd love to know how you like it.

Awesome…thanks Vicki…going to stick with my plan to read this and if I like…I’ll keep reading the series. It’s killing me not to know what I’m reading for sure next week, but at least I have the back ups on hold at the library. I’m going to take today off from reading and read a romance tomorrow for restaurant and then delve in to space opera.

I hope you are feeling better…keep us posted on your trip ;) If you need us to post books on the SS for you, just be sure to shelve the right version. It’ll be an interesting adjustment going to one week per genre…I kinda like it though.
