PattyMacDotComma | 3088 comments HAPPY NEW YEAR! I finished off last year's reading with Irish author Claire Keegan's wonderful novella, Foster, about a girl who is fostered by a couple while her mum has a baby. Loved it. Great start to the year!

Carolyn | 9413 comments Happy New Year everyone! Happy reading in 2023!

I'm still catching up with my last holiday reads from 2022, but will be back soon with my first review for 2023. In the meantime, here is my review for John Marrs' new speculative novel The Marriage Act by John Marrs The Marriage Act, a dystopian view of marriage in a future Britain.

Rachel (mimbza) | 518 comments The Spanish Daughter by Lorena Hughes The Spanish Daughter by Ecuadorian Lorena Hughes is a historical mystery set in the cacao plantations of the 1920s. It involves intrigue, family secrets and creates a picture of the era. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review

PattyMacDotComma | 3088 comments Queen Elizabeth never expected to be Queen, but she sure did the job well and was much loved for her common touch and dedication. Children's book author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara shows her as a child, a teen, and an adult in this great introduction for kids. (Not a bad refresher for grown-ups!]
Queen Elizabeth (Little People, Big Dreams) by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara 5★ My review of Queen Elizabeth with several illustrations

PattyMacDotComma | 3088 comments I had a lot of fun with The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, which is as quirky as the title suggests. There are orphans and a manor house, deadly threats, romance (bit sexy) and some quite naughty language. Something for the LGBT+ community as well. Oh yes - and magic spells! A most entertaining read.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna 4★ My review of ...Irregular Witches

Andrea | 2045 comments My final read of 2022 was Katherine Kovacic's new thriller, Seven Sisters. For me it was a good read, but not as good as her Alex Clayton books.

Rachel (mimbza) | 518 comments Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq Split Tooth is an award-winning debut read by Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq. It tells the story of a girl growing up in Nunavut in the 1970s, a gritty, harsh but beautiful tale that blends fiction, memoir magical realism and mythology. The audiobook has excerpts of her unique singing. Here is my review

The Book of Everlasting Things by Aanchal Malhotra
Very good for a debut work. Needed some finetuning in the editing process but an informative and emotional read nonetheless.

Carolyn | 9413 comments The Blood Road (Logan McRae #11) by Stuart MacBride The Blood Road is another excellent addition to Stuart MacBride's Logan MacRae series, dark and gritty and not for the faint hearted, superbly narrated by Stuart Worsley.
