Lia sat down in the end spot next to Annalise, very happy with her makeover. Her new hair colour was perfect! She flicked it over her shoulders and sat with perfect posture waiting expectantly. She was done waiting as she was in the last group - Lia just wanted to get this entire interview over with.
They started off easy. “What’s your name?”
“Jannali Harwood,” she replied with ease.
“How old are you? What province are you from?”
“I’m 19, and I’m from Paloma.”
“How does it feel to be the lucky lady from your province?”
She wasn’t going to say to the entirety of Illéa that she didn’t want to be here, was she? Lia just replied with the same calmness, “It feels wonderful. I feel like finally after all these years of being alive I’ve had a stroke of luck, and I’m proud to be representing my home province Paloma.” It wasn’t exactly a lie, but not exactly the truth. She assumed it would be enough to keep everyone happy.
“How are you feeling about the upcoming events in the Selection?”
Lia paused to think for a minute. What was she feeling? Happiness? Excitement? Anxiety?
“I’m not sure. In some way I’m scared of all this palace life, but in another way I’m looking forward to exploring it all and of course meeting the Prince!” Lidia has said that she had to make it look like she wanted to be here because of the prince, so Lia had tried to throw the poor prince into her interview just to make the public happy.
“What’s your dream job?”
Ahh… to be honest she had no idea.
But she couldn’t exactly say not sure. It would make her look so indecisive.
What did she want to do? Lia had been so used to doing part time jobs to keep herself and her family alive she had never really thought about what she truly wanted to do. The Selection was a thing of dreams, and dreaming was the one thing Lia tended to avoid.
“I’ve never really thought about a dream job,” Lia admitted. She was like the Cinderella of her family, and Cinderella never dreamed of her dream job. “I, ah, suppose writing would be nice,” Lia smiled. Gods, she sounded so stupid.
“What would you consider your greatest accomplishment?”
Did she have to? She hadn’t had time to accomplish anything except keep her family alive. She supposed that would have to suffice.
“I haven’t had any time to accomplish much except keep my family alive. Ever since my mother died, my family hasn’t had a source of steady income for years and I went to do all sorts of part time jobs to feed and clothe my family. I suppose that is my greatest accomplishment.”
“CUT!”
Lia loosed a breath that she hadn’t realised that she was holding as she stood up and stretched her arms and legs. Titus shook her hand and she smiled back a shy “Thank you,” before joining the others. Well, she was never doing an interview again.
