Broomfield was the representative for Michigan’s 18^th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1983 to 1992.

He was previously the representative for Michigan’s 19^th congressional district as a Republican from 1973 to 1982; and the representative for Michigan’s 18^th congressional district as a Republican from 1957 to 1972.
