If there’s one thing 2022 has taught us, it’s that British people love a queue. To try (and mostly fail) to bag yourself an Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch; to get into Frieze Art Fair, and of course, to say RIP to the late Queen with David Beckham.

If you were to list out the things that broke the internet it would read: Kim Kardashian’s Krispy Kreme-glazed butt, new Harry Styles and Taylor Swift albums, and details of a new iPhone release – at least they did until we all realised we had better things to do with our lives. The unveiling of the MoonSwatch in March also deserves to sit within such esteemed company.

Such has been the mass frenzy surrounding the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch this year that it's highly likely more people now know all the planets in the solar system. While education about the universe probably wasn’t high on the priority list for CEOs Nick Hayek and Raynald Aeschlimann, no doubt they’ll have a bit of a giggle if they read this. Thankfully, more people also now know where their nearest Swatch store is – as that continues to be the only viable way of getting hold of a MoonSwatch, unless you want to have your pants pulled down on eBay.

So those in the London area (or anyone within an hour of Clapham Junction, frankly), we come bearing good MoonSwatch related news, and just a few months out from Christmas. Yes, Swatch has today opened a new store in the impressively regenerated Battersea Power Station. We’ll start with the bad news that the store is 54 square metres, so you can imagine the probability of you getting into the store in the coming days is slim. The good news is they will indeed be stocking its brand new collections, “such as Bioceramic MoonSwatch, Swatch x Dragon Ball Z, SwatchPAY!, and the sister brand Flik Flak.”

Now that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has got in on the MoonSwatch hype, it wouldn’t surprise us if his fanatical fan base – the type who frame sweaty football shirts their heroes have worn for 90 minutes – have since been frantically googling information about the red and white (Mission to Mars) watch he wore while watching AC Milan last weekend. We’re unsure of the camping options in the Battersea area, but any MoonSwatch news is good news. So do with it, what you will. And remember, when it comes to queuing the British really do it best.
