If you think you know what the wardrobe of a royal woman looks like, Queen Letizia of Spain will make you think again.

Earlier this week, the queen turned royal style on its head with an outfit that made heads turn at the closing ceremony for the 14th Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, where she presented the Master of Cinema Award to American actor Michael Douglas. Farewell, coatdresses and tweed. Hello, slips and metallics!

Letizia brought the heat in a liquid lavender slipdress with a lustrous, silvery sheen to it. The piece featured an elegant midi-length silhouette, plus some more sartorial details that were unexpected for a member of the royal family, including layered spaghetti straps and a plunging V-neckline.

She continued to shimmer with other elements of her outfit, bringing out a pair of strappy metallic silver block heels, a silver sequined clutch, and diamond-shaped pavé earrings.

This isn’t the first time Letizia—one of the most fashionable royal women in Europe—has gravitated toward unlikely textiles and designs.

She previously embraced metallics at a spring engagement this past April. Attending a reception at Amsterdam’s Barbizon Palace Hotel, the queen stepped out in a slinky iridescent midi skirt in a pale silver color. Up top, she tucked in a long-sleeved black blouse with a ruched off-the-shoulder neckline, cinched in at the waist by a wide black leather belt. To complete the look, she added more sleek black accessories, including shiny leather slingback pumps and a small leather woven clutch.
