(00:00):
Welcome in. You just found themost entertaining hawkeye podcast in the world.
It's the Washup walk Ons. Today, two vacancies in the iowall Football World.
Ed Podolac steps down as Gary Dolphin'spartner in the booth, I tout
Kevin and or Brady Ross as thereplacement, and Deacon Hill enters his name
into the transfer portal, leaving thesecond quarterback spot on the roster open.
Is Marco Linez ready to fill thatrole? Or do we need to look

(00:21):
into the portal. Let's sit back, relax and have a day. Let's
go Welcome into the podcast. AnotherGary and Kluer episode, Kevin will be

(00:56):
here Supposedly I can hop in fora bit tonight was the quote from Kevin.
I'll leave you guys to decipher it. We'll see if he hopson or
not. Didn't respond when I asked, Hey, do you want to go
on zoom? Should we do iton the re stream like we normally do.
The software who knows Gary's here isalways committed to always here. At
six thirty you are, yeah,no, I'm you know, I'm happy

(01:19):
to be here. I like Ilike even here, like like just like
just talking ball you know, wellgetting after it love ball. Yeah,
you know, just like, hey, you know you got to get your
your reps in spring practice right now, I'm I'm getting my reps in too,
as a as a podcaster, Igot to be ready for the fall
when it comes around. So doyou ever feel like you need less reps
or you need a break from repsof podcasting because you do the in the

(01:40):
kitchen as well. Yes, sometimesI do feel like, well, I'm
really like I talk too much, like I'll get my voice will be so
hoarse sometimes, like we saw acouple of weeks ago, because it was
like, not only am I like, you know, if it's playoffs or
it's any Iowa game, ever, there's a lot of a yelling going on,

(02:00):
and then I gotta go yell intoa different microphone, So I do
understand. Sometimes it's like, yeah, I'm kind of I just want to
go on like a darkness retreat likeAaron Rodgers sometimes, but I also like,
I enjoy doing this, like thisis what I like. It's I'm
very lucky that I get to dothis and anyone listens to any of this,
And I don't really like I tryto take that for granted, really

(02:22):
because I think it's kind of special. That's you know what, that's probably
a good that's a good mindset tohave, and probably when I should adopt
more because the more that I've donethis, you know, five hundred and
I think this is five sixteen.Yeah, and then you throw on top
of that two I think we're goingon three years of DHT yeah, and

(02:45):
you know that puts us that putsme close to seven hundred episodes, right,
Yeah. And this also happens tobe, you know, doing a
lot of stuff with the Patreon, doing the stuff, you know, handling
merchandise on a weekly or semi weeklybasis. I've always got something to do
with that, advertisements with iHeart conversationsthere. I deal with all the business

(03:07):
side of things. So it doesvery much so feel at times like this
is work ish. It totally makessense. It still feels really great that
that's the work. Similar to myfitness stuff, I feel I sit here
and I program or workout and I'mlike, okay, well this is what
I do for a job. Bythe way, anybody looking to add some

(03:30):
muscle, You're looking to add somemuscle. This summer grant look a little
bigger. Yeah, add some strength, I would I'd love to add some
muscle. Well, I'm actually goingto be doing a twelve week program,
are you now? I've always donechallenges in the past, weight loss challenges.
Everyone wants to lose weight, right, that's like most people's goal.
And I realized, who gosh, four years into this process now of being

(03:53):
a fitness coach, I have notdone to the masses like, Hey,
I'm going to run a twelve weekstrength program where and for anyone out there
who's interested. It's going to startin two and a half weeks May thirteenth.
Yeah, it's gonna run for twelveweeks. You're gonna get three months
of expert programming by yours truly,You're also gonna get three months worth of

(04:16):
a phased out diet plan. Thatisn't it's not a one on one customized
to you, but it is.It is. It will go hand in
hand with the exercise, and itwill be based on protein, based on
muscle building. It will be promuscle, and then as you build that

(04:36):
muscle, you'll also be able tobuild that metabolism up a little bit.
You'll likely lose fat build muscle inthe if you're not a super trained individual.
So anybody that's interested in that,so let me know. But I
feel fortunate that's my job. Ifeel fortunate that hopping on the microphone with
you and Kevin and occasionally Drake ismy job. Yeah. I realized that

(04:58):
you do when you guys record inthe kitchen. Uh usually like three hours
after this, like pretty late onWednesdays, the same exact days as walk
on. Oh, Sundays and Wednesdays, So you're double loaded, and you
guys do two a week, twoweek Yeah, for like over a year
now somehow, but yeah, wedo it. Uh yeah, I feel
the same way. It's like, you know, like it doesn't get nearly

(05:21):
as many listeners as this, right, but you know sometimes like I remember
over the summer, like we werelike, oh, like shoot, we
can't really record, right, andwe didn't do it. And then I
got like a d M on Twitterfrom someone I didn't even know. They're
like, hey, where's where's theepisode? I was like, oh,
shoot, I forget that, Likepeople listen to this. It's not just
me on a zoom with my friends, and it's like I don't know.

(05:42):
Now, I'm like I'll be it'llbe like, oh shoot, like I'm
tired. We just got back, and it's like, well, even if
just one person is like expecting ittomorrow, like I feel obligated, like,
oh shoot, I have a havea job to do. It's funny
because I also do a weekly podcastfor my fitness the fitness side of Tyler
Klueber. It is probably right inline with how many listens, like in

(06:06):
the Kitchen Gets. Most people don'teven know about it because I don't really
promote it on socials a whole lot. I've done one hundred and sixty episodes
weekly for basically the last three years, and I always think, like,
Okay, there's seventy one people listeningto this, why do I continue to

(06:28):
talk to a microphone about fitness bymyself for thirty minutes every Wednesday? And
then every couple months, I'll getsomeone who buys a program for me from
me or signs up as one ofmy one on one coaching clients, and
I'm like, boom, there yougo. Well, if it's in the

(06:49):
seventies, right, then you're justno different than a high school like history
teacher who has seventy students that heor she has to teach four days a
week talking about bench press or something, the whole exactly. It's all about
it. It's all instead of likeAndrew Jackson or something. Yeah, yeah,
the uh the Revolutionary War. Noone person. If I if I

(07:14):
reach one person who then is like, dang, because I listened to this
podcast, I actually am going toreach out and sign up for one on
one coaching like the ROI suddenly becomeshuge because I just got a client.
So it is one of those thingswhere you start to grind it out.
Uh, and I from the sameperspective. That's why I respect you guys
within the kitchen. It's like, you know, you guys don't have any

(07:34):
big brand deals that you're rocking onin the kitchen, no huge sponsors over
there. Yeah, well it wasweird. Someone uh texted me. They're
like hey, like it was aboutuh in the kitchen and they're like,
hey, you kind of like inspiredme, Like I want to kind of
get into this now. And they'relike, how'd you get ads? I
was like, ads, we don'thave ads. I was like they're running

(07:55):
AD Like they're running ADS on meright now and I didn't even know where's
where's the money coming in. Wheredo you guys, you guys use what
do you guys use to host it? We have a it's like it's called
Spotify for podcasts. Now, yeah, yeah, that's where I host my
other one. Who knows. Ithink you might be able to you might
be able to sell uh some advertisementover there. I mean, advertisement is

(08:16):
just scalable, so you could scaleit down and only if you're making ten
bucks an episode, you can stillyou can still pump some brands or some
companies. Yeah. Uh, anyway, eight minutes of being grateful about podcasting,
I need you know we we havea few topics on the dock at
tonight. Kevin may jump in.We'll be able to talk about it with
him. But first off, Grant, Grant, let me know that I

(08:37):
need updated on the on Jokicchen theNBA. Tell me we're in the playoffs,
right, we are in the plastand this is what's great. I
understand you have you have a baby? I doat Can you can confirm yeah,
yes, yes or no you havea baby. At least uh,
fifteen minutes ago my child was stillalive, So yes, yeah, I

(08:58):
understand you got a baby. Gotto get up early, you know,
you run business, it totally makessense, right, Yeah. And then
there's games like Monday Night's Lakers versusNuggets where I'm sitting back and I'm watching,
and I'm like, there's generally peoplewho I feel bad for that didn't
watch this game, that missed this, Like I feel bad for people out

(09:22):
there that and it's like it's noteven you necessarily, but some people are
like I just don't like you cansay, and it's like, what,
how do you? It's the sameas like, you know, I remember
seeing the Iowa basketball come back likeagainst Michigan State, like thirteen points and
twenty seconds. I'm like, there'speople who sit there like, yeah,
I just don't like it. It'slike I don't understand. You watch this
product and you just become so thoroughlyuninterested. I'm not. I'm definitely not

(09:46):
that I'm a sports fan enough whereif there's a great comeback or a great
you know, I'm not in everynight guy. You know, I've probably
watched a quarter of NBA basketball season. I was like a quarter of games.
I was like, that's actually no, no, no, like a
single you've got a league pass now, No, No, I've considered getting

(10:09):
the that w NBA League pass thoughfor like thirty five thirty nine bucks for
the season. For the entire season. Well, I mean, if you're
a little secret, I mean,if you're just gonna watch the Fever,
I think like thirty six of theforty games. Yeah, they're all on
national TV. My kids still alive. By the way, I can hear
Kenny's up there. She she she'sreally found her voice to a new level.
Every few months they find it toanother level. She's she's found it.

(10:33):
Yeah, the Fever's games are allgonna be televised because of Kaitlyn.
Right, every every team on theirschedule is moving there, moving their games
to bigger arenas so that they cansell out an extra you know, two
x tickets when Kaitlyn comes to town. You have to. I saw highlights
the last couple of days of Caitlingetting working in the Fever jersey. She's
she's it's it's weird. She's she'smoved on. She feels like still well

(10:56):
as I forget they don't they playwith a you know that the w NB
the w NBA ball, or atleast it's it's a colorfoot ball. It
takes them getting used to. Myeyes are ready for it. Is that
I need to search that actually, because I feel like that might take them
getting used to. It will takesome getting used. This is like when
they switched the tennis ball from whiteto yellow. Excuse me, the tennis

(11:18):
ball was white at some point.Yeah, it was for a long time,
but they switched it to yellow becauseyou couldn't see it on TV.
That makes sense to make it fromwhat I can From what I can tell
that they use the basically the stripedball. I've got it up here on
Wilson dot com. Let me seeif I can share my screen. It

(11:41):
looks like those balls. Oh no, I think it does have texture on
it. You know what I'm talkingabout, those autograph balls where they that's
like a that's like a canvas morethan a Yeah, like that's that's meant
for playing basketball. It's not meantfor autographs. So from what I can
tell that it's actually got the textureon it. Yes, that has meant

(12:01):
for ball. Okay, that's meantto That has meant for shooting threes,
not sitting in your dad's office. It kind of looks like it should sit
in an office though, Uh,Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
I don't like, I'm gonna behonest, like the colleonall choice was
not is not going to change ifI'm watching a w NBA game or not
if I'm just being totally honest. But uh, it's interesting. I think

(12:24):
it's fine, I mean neutral onthe topic, but it will take some
getting used to. Kablan was drainingthrees. She was running a little pick
uh two man game with Aliah Bostonon one of the highlights. Yeah,
I would love to know the amountof increase. Like the social media department

(12:45):
for the Indiana Fever, which Ican only imagine is no more than two
people. Yeah, it's probably liketwo I'm guessing like Indiana graduates with either
like communications or marketing degrees who justgot there like oh boy. Essentially,
essentially it's you from Indiana who waslike, I'd like an internship and they're
like, hey, will you runour social media? And then all of
a sudden they get the number onepick and it's Caitlyn Clark. And the

(13:09):
amount of content and tweets and juststuff that they've put out in the last
four to six months has probably tenxt from what their social presence was even
just this time last year. Yeah, that's gotta be a weird feeling.
It's got especially let's say it's someonewho was ran running it last year and
they're like, oh, I cankind of you know, maybe maybe I

(13:31):
can tweet out something if I missgot a spelling era, no one will
notice. Yeah, and then uhnow it's like, oh, shoot,
there's gonna be like we've uh onehundred x our followers and we are going
to be the center of the basketballworld for a little bit during the summer.
So they Yeah, I mean,it's it's got to be not I

(13:52):
would love to see the what thenumbers are going to be. I'd love
to see their social numbers. I'dlove to see what the fever brought in
rev new wise last year or thelast five years average compared to the next
three hundred and sixty five days.Yeah, I would love I'm sure all
of those will come out, butit's got to be absurd. Yeah,

(14:13):
Well, it's it comes down tothis too. Was Caitlyn Clark like number
one pick because she's a great playeras well, right for sure? And
like Ali a Boston number one pick, great player, cailbilliam Is gonna be
the number one pick on Thursday becausehe's a great player. But at some
point too, it's a financial decisionof when you take Caitlyn Clark, it
will change your business forever. Oneof the owners anonymously said that I believe

(14:37):
it in a saw quot with hewho was like, I would trade my
the entire team for Kaitlin Clark.I just saw that just because like and
I think, I don't think he'seven saying like she's that good, which
she she is not. I don'tthink financial decision correct. She's going to
bring in so much money like itdoesn't even matter, So I think so
yes. So pictures are coming outfrom the aces as well, where Kate

(15:01):
Martin was drafted. Shout out toKate Martin, by the way, such
a sick moment. She's there justto support Caitlyn with with Gabby and Jada.
I you really think she had noclue that she was getting drafted.
I don't think she knew she wasgetting drafted that or like I think you
got agents like they're talking with gms, like I don't. I don't know
if that's I don't think anyone expectedher to go eighteenth Okay, eighteen is

(15:24):
early. But like when they werelike, oh, she had no clues,
I feel like she had Like shedefinitely there's there's a decent chance I'm
getting picked up in the second round. Here, she definitely knew that it
was coming. Yeah. I thinkthere's three rounds of the WNBA draft.
I didn't watch the whole thing.I couldn't tell you. I believe there's
three rounds, okay, and shewas projected to go like late second.

(15:45):
I think, yeah, so it'sI don't know, late second, early
third, but like fifth fifth pickof the second round. No, that
was huge. Anyway, there's picturesof her because she's now reun I did
with Megan Gustafson out in Las Vegas. Yea, from what I can tell,
And I'm you know, I'm I'mjust a uh a new little w

(16:11):
NBA fan. I'm just learning beinga part of the the new, the
new wave of fandom for the Women'sProfessional League. It appears that the Aces
not only have the best team.I believe they've won. They won it
last year and maybe the year beforethat. They might be talking we're talking
dynasty right now, the Veggas Aces. Yeah, I think they have the

(16:32):
most money as well as an organist. Does not surprise me at all.
Well, they're in Las Vegas, right, so I want to say they
got celebrity owners as well. Icould be wrong, it sounds right.
Their practice facility is a ACES practicefacility. It's decked out their colors.
It's huge. Then you look atthe the uh the clips coming out of
the Fever and it sort of lookslike Eleah Boston and Caitlin Clark are practicing

(16:59):
basketball all in like a middle schoolgym in Iowa. Hey, you know
what, there, the Fever arenot worried about these flashy gyms. I
don't worried about building character and playingI understand, all right. It looks
like my middle school gym though thatthey're doing, which is fine. You
all you need is a basketball courtin two hoops, right, I mean,
they don't need Mark Davis to builda PF Chang's in the their practice

(17:21):
facility like he probably has for theAces. But it would be cool.
Yeah, which I just learned. He's the Him and Tom Brady are the
owners of the Aces. In casetom Brady owns the Aces a minority owner,
Mark Davis owns the majority who wasthe owner of the Raiders as well.
Right, Yes, so he justgot it all decked out. It
must be nice to wake up andbe him every day. Uh. Yeah,

(17:42):
the Yeah, I like the theMegan and Kate photo is pretty cool.
It's like, uh, kind ofremind me it's like Toby McGuire,
uh or yeah, Tobe muh isit Toby McGuire. I think yeah,
Tobe McGuire's Spider Man, meaning likeAndrew garfifth Spider Man, old old helping
the new, helping each other outwell, And I think I think Kate's

(18:02):
true freshman year was Megan's senior year. Is that true? So they were
actually on the team in two thousandand nineteen. That sounds good to me.
I searched twenty nineteen Iowa Women's rosterand let's confirm that. But yeah,
so where I was going with thatwas I don't even know where I

(18:25):
was going with that. It's greaty. Why was I talking about a facility
and money and all that, becausethe Aces have a significantly better facility than
the Fever do. Yeah, Idon't know why I cared about it.
I'm not seeing I'm gonna be honest, I'm not I know you're not seeing
that. I'm not seeing Gustufson onthis roster. Can you go? What
is Is Kate Martin a freshman inthat wrestaurant? Ooh, let's find out

(18:49):
how fifteen? Yes, nineteen, twenty twenty one, twenty two, twenty
three. Ooh, okay, checkthe eighteen roster. I might be wrong.
The reason I was talking about facilityand how much money making Gustosen on
the eighteen roster? Okay? WasKate Martin on that roster? Yes?
Okay, So there you go.They were there together in eighteen. Martin's

(19:11):
been and Iowa City for damn neara decade. The reason I was talking
about facilities and money was because ofthat point. What the owner said was
I would trade every player I havefor Kitlin Clark because the WNBA is still
a blossoming league. Yeah, likethey have not had their moment yet.
They're hoping that Caitlin Clark is sortof ushering them to their moment. Yeah,

(19:36):
and you have a well and granted, some of those grades come out
on like the NFL programs each year, the organizations and it's like that,
you know, they grade the facilitiesand like their meals and all that stuff,
and you still see teams that havelike just dogged like we talked to
We talked to Trent Tighten you lastseason, last summer and he's like,
the Bengals facilities are just the wholeoperation is just bad. Yeah, and

(19:57):
then you have like, you know, so if I stadium and the best
of the best. But I thinkthe discrepancy in the WNBA is probably drastic,
right, it's gotta be. It'sprobably even bigger. And so as
an owner, your only goal isto like, hey, we got to
find a way to the top financially. Here you get Caitlin automatic. It's

(20:18):
definitely going to help. It's automatic. Yeah, speaking of we might as
well throw this in there. Didyou see the deals that Caitlyn was offered
for shoes from other companies other companiesbefore she took the Nike deal. I
only saw the Nike twenty eight milliondeal, which is pretty much so.
I think eight years for twenty eightmillion decent. Yeah, I'd say she's

(20:44):
probably fairly content with that, withthat money at twenty two years old.
I think under Armour offered three yearsfor six million or something like that,
or three four years for eight million, Kuma was out after they found out
that the bidding would start at threemillion minimum a year. I think,
yeah, he said, so Iunderstand it's Puma, you know. And

(21:06):
then what was the other one? There was another one? Then I saw,
you know how we firse Yeah, you know how we saw that Ice
Cube uh offered her five million forthe Big Three or whatever. Yeah,
I saw that that was then upto fifteen million perspective five million. It
would have been ten million in salaryfor the next two years, and then

(21:27):
five million dollars extra in like stockof the of the or like the operation
and the company like she was.He was offering her, offering her like
ownership. Yeah, in the inthe whole thing, which I if,
I mean, if if I'm Cube, you might as well shove all the
chips in the middle. If you'regoing to try and get Kaylen Clark,
you might as well unload the clipall. Be honest. I don't know

(21:52):
how you don't take that deal ifyou don't have the Nike deal fall back
on. Yeah, I guess likeI'm assuming a lot of the deal she's
anticipating or was in negotiations with. She signs with the Big Three, yeahs
the WNBA, And it's like,I don't know if those happened, right,
she honestly genuinely feels like a weighton her shoulders of like my career

(22:15):
in the WNBA will have like massiveripple effects potentially in women's basketball outside of
her own financial game. Yeah, and like no one like if she signed
with the Big three, like noone would ever take the WNBA seriously.
No, No, it's just thetruth. I mean, I know that's
like if I mean, that's likeif what amount of money to go play

(22:37):
for the Globetrotters instead of the Nuggetsnext, he should I don't think so.
I disagree with that. You know, there's the adage that every every
man has their price, every womanhas her price. At what point does
Caitlin go, Guys, I can'tturn down fifty million dollars. I mean,
fifty is a lot of money.Fifty so much, And again,

(22:59):
I don't know if somebody would haveever been able to put that up,
it probably would not have been asmart financial play on their end to give
her fifty million. I don't thinkthey're getting that return. But fifteen I
mean, if she doesn't have twentyeight million on the table with Nike.
But the reason she's so big andthat they would offer her fifteen is because
she is the kind of person thathas those other deals. Plus she has
HIV plus, she has State Farm, plus she has yeah bows and yeah

(23:25):
h and R Block and every otherbig deal like State Farm. It's so
much money, man. Yeah. And I've said it before too, like
Nike is treating Caitlin as like TigerWoods, Serena Williams, Lebron James like
up there with you, massive likesport changing people who it's like, we're
just going to go all in ongetting this person. Yeah, because you

(23:48):
would say, I mean, there'snot a ton of people with lifetime contracts.
I just named four of them thatdo. But actually I don't even
I'm gonna assume Serena does, ButI would all these people are a lifetime
con tracks, like because they changethe sport and it's like they're gonna claim
them as they get to do that. So what you said just a minute
ago, when that Caitlin feels theweight of changing the entire landscape of the

(24:11):
sport, Yeah, I think you'reright, And I can't imagine the pressure
of that. It's probably a lot, like like imagine this, Like she's
great at basketball, She's gonna begood in the WNBA. Yeah, but
dude, the expectation, yeah, like what people expect from her. Not

(24:33):
only that, but I think someonewent back and was like, you know
when the Tarassi came out, waslike, yeah, she's gonna have she's
gonna have a rude awakening, likeshe's going to have to adjust for a
couple of years. And then someonewas like, well, but the number
one pick has averaged like sixteen agame in their rookie year for like the
last ten years. Like, I'mpretty sure she's gonna be fine. Yeah,
I have no doubt that she thatshe matches that or is better than

(24:56):
that. I think she is goingto do great. Is she going to
be the best player in the WNBAright away? Probably not. Does she
have the potential to ascend to thatquickly? I think yes, you have
to be seen. But is thateven enough? Like the expectation of her
feels like she has to literally carrythe entire league Like yeah, and I

(25:22):
don't even know if it'll be astatistical thing. It definitely helps. That's
like Kitlin's play is why we haveeighteen million views in the National Championship or
yukonnor whichever one it was, right, But I think just based off the
college career alone this year with storylineslike year one, Yeah, I think

(25:42):
you just show up and job done. I agree, that's half of the
stuff. I mean, like, okay, if she's the police, did
you kill somebody? I you know, sometimes it goes down over here.
I was hoping you couldn't hear that, but sometimes I think it. Dude,
I think it adds to the podcast. If you if you got contra
police broke into your house, Yeah, mid podcast, that'd be great content.

(26:04):
Well did you on drinking grey Fridaymaintenance? Just like walked into my
room? Oh really, chill theother day? Yeah, just walked into
a come put in an ac thatis already here. Oh great? Yeah,
so special guests. It's crazy becauseI think there's something, like you

(26:25):
said, people like Caitlin because she'sgood at basketball, but there's something else
that sells her. I yeah,I think she's already built up enough of
the storyline anticipation. I don't thinklike I think if she's averaging three points
a game when they get to theDiana Tarassi one, it's gonna be sell

(26:47):
out anyway. I'm sorry for this. The building next to Grant is burning
down. Uh from what I couldtell from what you said, that was
a fire truck. It sounds likethe morning here at my house when I've
got uh what's it called, uhfirebuds or whatever? The rescue show is

(27:07):
the kids show that I put onfor Kimley. I don't know what it
because because the argument about people whokind of don't like Caitlyn is like people
have been you know, there's beengood basketball players before. There have been
generational talent really in women's basketball before. Like but like you always come back
to this, but there's something aboutCaitlin and I can't I don't know how

(27:30):
to describe it or put my fingeron it. Something about her. It's
just that it's a it's a girlfrom West One, Iowa who plays at
Iowa's crazy stats. The story. It's not at Yukon for the sure year
in a row, and it's it'snot different than like I was saying,
Serena Williams, we've had good tennisplayers before, but we haven't. We
didn't, we hadn't had two sisterswho were both ridiculous and they're both from

(27:52):
Compton, they're both dominating tennis. Now, yeah, I do. And
then I think the I think thefact that she like just plain and simple,
very very obvious to the eye, like she just does shoot farther out
significantly than anybody else. Yeah, and that is drawing, like you want
to, like when you get ona video game and you're just messing around,

(28:17):
you take half quarters when you gowhen you go out and you're at
the wreck and you're not trying tobe serious. You're like, I'm pulling
from forty just because it's cool whenone of these goes down. Oh yeah.
And so the poll of Caitlin, aside from everything else she's great at
and the attitude and the story islike, but yeah, a lot of
what she does is just naturally exciting. Like if you can see someone pull

(28:38):
every couple of minutes from thirty fivefeet, it's fun to watch. So
I don't know it'll be fun.Speaking of women's basketball, actually, can
you give me an NBA playoff updatequick? Because we're in the playoffs.
What happened? Who won the gamelast night last night? Was Mavericks were
even series with the Clippers. Okay, so series doesn't start till the road

(29:00):
team wins a game, so it'sseries has begun there, Luke Danncic,
unbelievable. It depends on who theMAVs, which one show up. But
Nuggets Lakers, Nuggets are up toall on the Lakers, but then the
Lakers are two and on moral victories. So is that I've been up formed
as that? But Nuggets are playingwell. I'm assuming it feels like the

(29:22):
finals are going to be Nuggets Celtics, but we'll see what happens. I
don't know. Okay. That's literallycould not have named even half the teams
in the NBA playoffs. Can't tellyou how many people make the playoffs.
And I couldn't even tell you.I could not tell you who the front
runners are. I could tell youthat Yo kich is one of the best
players in the league. Two orthree. Okay. Finally, with basketball

(29:45):
updates, Lucy Olsen is officially aHawkey. She will join in the summer.
Share the screen here for those onthe YouTube. By the way,
if you're on the YouTube, thanksfor being here. Not all of you

down below with how many points doyou think Lucy Olsen's gonna average for the

(30:10):
Hawks next year? It says righthere. Lucy Olsen has officially signed to
play basketball at the University of Viaball. Olson competed the previous three seasons at
Villanova University. She was rated thefourth best player in the transfer portal by
ESPN dot com. And hopefully there'sKevin Ward. I think we have a
turn single keV who just joined theshow. Hey keV, Yeah, I

(30:34):
hear you. Are you? Areyou? Okay? I'm live? Okay,
that's good, that's good. Willwill you be alive in nine days?
I hope? Though, Yeah, don't don't put that evil on them.
Well we'll be in Vegas. It'sjust debatable anyway. Olsen is the

(30:57):
native of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Shewas third in the country scored twenty three
a game last year, behind CaitlinClark and Juju Watkins. I just threw
Kevin out for a second because hisbackground noise, and she's gonna join And
Lysiko said that. Lysako said onTwitter that with the official joining of Olsen

(31:22):
that in his opinion, or atleast he insinuated this that the Hawks have
a pretty good chance of hosting forthe NCAA Tournament once again next year,
which means that they would get oneof those top four seeds. And I
think, and that's sort of whatwe talked about with David iicult a couple

(31:42):
of episodes ago. If the Hawkscan maintain national relevance, which I would
say is hosting in the NCAA Tournament, if you could be a top top
four seed in one of the oneof the regions, that's what they need
to do next year. If youcan get to the sweet sixteen, maybe
win a ball game, and getto another elite eight that you maybe shouldn't

(32:02):
be favored to get to, thatwould be pretty elite. And then you
have a couple of recruiting classes atthat point that have been built with the
Caitlyn Clark hype and the just teamhype in general, that should be able
to pick up the slack and kindof re establish a higher floor for the
Hawks. This is good news.I think she's going to join Yeah right
here, Bluter said, we arelooking forward to her coming into the program

(32:24):
this summer. Tremendous student athlete withan excellent resume, skill set and personality
was exactly what we were trying toget out of the transfer portal. It's
an exciting time to be an iowhawguy. So I'd love to hear it.
And supposedly Kirk Farence helped Lander whenshe came for her visit. Did

(32:45):
you see that? I did notknow, keV. Did you see that
at all? On Twitter? Iheard something about it. Yeah, so
I guess Blooter wasn't here or like, wasn't quite back yet from something.
And so they're like, hey,KF can you, uh can you host
Lucy quick where? I don't knowat the foot I don't know football facility.

(33:07):
He went over to Carver and waslike, oh shit, okay,
you know, I don't know alot about basketball, right, but uh,
we got a great program here,Blueter, one of the best.
Shit. It's like, Lucy,I don't know how interested you are an
offensive line drills, but let melet me show you what's what we're working
on here today. I don't knowhow much you know about what I can

(33:28):
tell you about the eighty one team. Okay, they were humming similar to
this last year's basketball team. Thewomen's basketball team, Caitlyn Clark. All
right, back then we had acouple guys. We could play some football.
Okay, Well, I hope theygive him adequate time to prep as
well, because I mean, Ifeel like all the KF recruiting stories I
hear is he knows every single nameof every person you met. Guarantee he

(33:50):
probably when he when he introduced himself, he probably knew her name, her
parents' names, and the high schoolthat she went to. I'm almost guaranteed
it's got like a note card fromhim. Well she's from Pennsylvania, I
guess, and so oh yeah,I forgot about that, So he probably
had that connection. That helps Ido. I do want to say well
on her visit, though, Iwant to launch a NC investigation for for

(34:15):
other schools trying to Tampa with hervisit by scheduling a tornado. That was
Yeah, that wasn't fair. Thatwasn't quite fair. I just want to
throw it out there. Uh,that got my eye on you, Iowa
State, Oregon, other schools.Yeah, oh gosh. And then I
just lost it. So here's thehere's the drama, not the drama,

(34:35):
but the fun question of the day. And this I wanted to ask you
guys or really confirm what I thinkon this. Let's see if we can
get some audio here play this guy. I wouldn't say it's really weird,
but a lot of teams are askingme if I could beat Caitlin Clark went
on one. Just just being fromMyiowa I said, I think I can't.

(34:57):
She probably score I for you bucketson me, but I think,
wow, so that's Yahoo Sports.I don't know where he's at. Iowa
cornerback Cooper Degen thinks he can beatCaitlyn Clark one on one. Of course
he can beat Caitlyn Clark one onone. Are we serious with this question?
Am I am I alone in thinkingthis? Please give me your opinions.

(35:19):
Tell me how dumb and I mean, I know he played basketball in
high school. When the last timehe picked up a basketball, though he
probably once or twice a year picksit up. He's one of the best
athletes on the planet. Grant, yeah, I know. Uh, I
just at some point though, likewhen it comes to a like this,
you can be a great athlete,Like when you're not shooting all the time,
it might be I don't know,Oh, you think Caitlin's going to

(35:42):
be able to guard two hundred andfive pound Cooper. Dejen, that's a
good point, didn't I didn't thinkabout that. That could be that could
be an issue. Cooper's faster, stronger. I think they're the same height
and he can jump over her.Yeah, this game is eleven to two
if Caitlyn is lucky. Kevin,am I off my rocker here? What

(36:06):
are your thoughts on this? Itmight be a little bit closer than that,
But I do think I don't know. I would be curious to see
if Cooper still has the technical skillskind of like Graham was talking about,
but athleticism. You know, he'she's gonna play the best defense that she

(36:27):
has ever seen in her entire life. Yeah. I don't think that's really
any sort of a hot take tosay that. No, Yeah, yeah,
you're probably right. But I mean, Kaitlyn's a great place you can
probably get some shots in. Butthe thing about is, yeah, Ken
Cooper scored, is you have theball skills, the dribbling skills to score.

(36:51):
So that's the only question I got, man, I just see this,
like I get that Caitlyn's great andwhat she does to First of all,
there were some great defense played onKaitlyn, and I understand that she
has an entire there's five defenders,so it's not like she can just go
back door and be open and allthis stuff in a one v one game.
I don't even know if a onev one game favors her, Like

(37:15):
there's no help she, like Cooperis gonna have to try, of course,
because Caitlin's great, but if Cooperwanted to, I don't know.
If Caitlyn's getting a shot off,he's just playing. It's playing lockdown d
like you know, like when youplay your quarnerback is one of those positions
that would transfer really well to playingthe basketball defense. Absolutely, and not

(37:42):
only that, but Cooper was greatat basketball in high school. He averaged
like twenty a game, granted againsta bunch of kids who had they had
to pull from obg y N District. But like I mean the videos of
him thrown down that was pretty sick. Yeah, he absolutely elevates and hammers

(38:02):
it. Dude, Like, Idon't know, this is nothing against Caitlyn.
I just think a lot of people, a lot of people know Cooper
great football player, and a lotof people across the country. Now know
Caitlin best college scorer in women's basketballhistory, and they think, oh,
he's got no chance, But theydon't understand that Cooper's also pretty damn good

(38:25):
at basketball, probably had opportunities toplay basketball in college if he wanted to
pursue that back then. And whenit's one on one and there's no one
to screen Cooper to get Caitlyn open, this is bad. This is bad
news for Katelyn. Yeah, Imean, it's a stipid hypothetical anyway,
But was he getting some backlash offof this one? Oh? Yeah,

(38:47):
you read the comments? He's uh, well, the first comment is is
someone who's at least smart. Itsays he's a world class athlete who had
more points than Harrison Barnes in highschool and average twenty six eight and eight,
eight and seven. It's an outlandishthought. Then we have a couple
people, ummm, this person's likehe probably could, to be honest,

(39:10):
Clark might be able to get somebuckets from her elite shooting, but she
couldn't keep him out of the paint. This guy says, who is He
seems he wants to ride the Caitlinattention train. Sorry, bro true or
not sit this one out? Well, it sounds like based off the video
that it was like during his interviewsfor the draft, like GMS or something
where I asked him like, oh, do you think he could be Kaitlyn

(39:30):
Clark? Like he's not gonna sayno, then, Zach, you can't
can't take the guy who thinks he'sgonna lose one on one. It's like,
hey, we're looking at potentially draftingyou nineteenth in the first round.
Would you get beat by a girlin basketball? Yeah? Like he can't.
I mean, it's like it's oneof those weird questions where it's like,
you know, they say, oh, shoot, we can't draft this
guy because he writes a chicken insteadof the steak at the well. Yeah,

(39:55):
Reggie Bush gets his Heisman back. How about that? That's the news.
I like it. Reinstate. Thisis from the Heisman Trophy account.
We're reinstating two thousand and five HeismanTrophy to the University of Southern California's Reggie
Bush. Bush gained more than twothousand yards from scrimmage and scored eighteen touchdowns.

(40:17):
He received seven hundred and eighty fourfirst place votes. The fifth most
in Heisman Trophy history while leading USCto a national title. Birth Welcome back
to the Heisman family. Reggie, dude, he would have made so much
money in nil back in the day, the most right had to be the

(40:38):
most, Like I don't back then, I don't know. If there was
a Tibo would have made a lot. I would have made it. Con
I'm trying to think who else wouldhave even been in the conversation. Well,
ma'am, Newton was a company.Zell was making money. He just
he is just as buddy of us. In the top top five as well.

(41:01):
If they, I mean the topthree, you've got to be those,
right, I mean Timo Bush andthey maybe you said cam Newton,
maybe maybe he. I don't thinkhe challenges the year of those three though
I don't either. Plus he onlyhad one year at Auburn where he was
like he had that one year, right or was it more than that?

(41:23):
Yeah, I think it was justthe one year Tibo. I mean he
had, didn't they win back toback like seven o eight or something like
that, eight or nine. Ithink they might be one year, there
might be one year in between,Okay, I mean he was, he
he was, That's back when guysstill had you know, this transfer portal
wasn't a thing. Guys established athey established a brand within a city,

(41:47):
within a culture of a of auniversity, and they were able to hold
that for two three years. Oneyear in between they went two thousand and
six and eight. Okay, backto back basketball championships though. Oh that's
what I'm thinking. They had JokimNoah dog Dog. That was That was
the glory years. That was likewriting me and Kevin's middle school years.

(42:07):
Those were good years. Man.Sports back then, so much sports.
Dude, Vince Young in Texas,Oh my goodness, Vince there too.
Vince would be up there, soI thought that was cool. Reggie gets
his heisman back. Manzell was waslike the headline guy fighting for this for
like the last year. He's beenon Twitter kind of bitching about it.

(42:29):
So finally you know he's got Hehad a little power and have helped him
too. What I like the Internetdeserves like the Internet and just the fact
that nil is what it is nowbecause they said part of the reasoning was,
uh that it's drastically changed. Footballis drastically changed. Uh. Next

(42:50):
on the docket, we have thenews that Ed Podolac will step down as
the in game color commentator side GaryDolphin. Gary on Twitter says some news
to share. Ed Polac is transitioningout of the Hawkeye Football radio booth as
color commentator. He will provide hisinsight on our pregame show starting this fall.
I have said it often across twentyseven years that Ed Potlac is the

(43:14):
best I've ever worked with in thebroadcast booth, one of the grames Gate
Jesus Christ, one of the game'sgreat competitors. Ed's ability to explain plays
was unparalleled. Football mentalities of allages understood and enjoyed the humor each Saturday,
which this is obviously big because thepersonality the mainstream sort of figures in

(43:37):
Iowa football, he is certainly oneof them. And this sparked a who's
going to be next debate? AndI offered up Kevin Wards as a potential
replacement there. I think I thinkKevin would be great great. I think
you should do it. I willlisten to any offers to do commentary with

(44:00):
Iowa Sports. A couple of peopletagged me as well, a couple of
the walk on Army, the oneswho really love the brand. I appreciate
you guys so much. I amabsolutely not We've talked about how I don't
love Ball and I don't know Ball, and I've said, I'm on record,
you don't want someone with that pedigreeas your color calm guy. Right.

(44:22):
If we got a special teams play, I can dissect that for you
pretty good. But I am notgoing to be able to tell you the
x's and o's of why this guywent here, and what would have happened
if this guy went here, andwhy this guy made this read. I
can't tell you any of that.I'm dumber than Rocks when it comes to
offensive defensive x's and o's. Acouple of the people thrown around here,

(44:46):
have you got something to say? There? You popped in? I's got
to say it. It's got tobe exponentially harder too. When you're on
radio, right, you don't getthe oh yeah, the luxury of you
know, right, and all yourcircles. Your dad is went on the
TV screen can't draw you all yourdicks for the people to understand what yeah,
what what what you're talking about? So it's gotta be a lot harder.

(45:07):
I love a good uh a goodweather man or sportscaster, unintentional penis
straw, those are always good.Uh. Yeah, it's it's it's one
hundred percent a very tough skill tocreate and manage and sort of be great
at. And I think Podolac wasgreat at it. Uh. I think

(45:30):
you need a player to be thereplacement. And I think a lot of
people echo that on Twitter, severalpeople. I even put this one out
there, Brady Ross. I think, dude, Brady Ross and Gary Dolphin.
I understand that Brady's young and doesn'thave Actually he does have experience.
I know he's done color colm forUh the uh god, where he where

(45:54):
is he from? I've already forgotten. I have no idea he's he's done
color commentary for for his home townfootball team high school. I've heard Dallas
mentioned, I've heard Greenway mentioned.I've heard Danon Hughes, what's his name,

(46:15):
Anthony Harron. I think those twoguys, I don't think those people
would have any interest in doing itthough. It's the thing, yeah,
because I don't think that's a betterpaying gig than what they're going to be
doing already. Like I think AnthonyHerron's with Big ten right, Yeah,
and he might have moved to Yemaybe he's still a Big ten Let me

(46:37):
check on that britty ross from Humboldt, Iowa. Humboldt. God, I
couldn't think of the Humboldt as agreat radio voice, though he would.
It's so perfect. I think hewould be perfect for it. So Anthony
Herron went to Iowa and then Ican't tell where he's at now. He's

(47:01):
he's doing something in the space he'salready. I think he's done this before.
He has a broadcast career. Heis with Big ten Network, NBC
Sports, Fox, Kickoff Excess. He's got a whole bunch of people that
he's associated with. I think he'dbe great at it. Uh Danan Hughes.
I don't know who he is with. I should know better. Oh

(47:23):
Cooper, just thirty five minutes agoposted a partner post with Buffalo Wild Wings,
and it looks like he's got aboutone hundred wings and cheese curds sitting
on the table in the room he'sat. Gosh, dang it, that
looks good. I'm just gonna readit right now. I don't know where

(47:43):
I'm going, but the Buffalo WildWings go hooked up my go to go
to delivery order for the draft.Get six free wings with promo code go
Wings ten dollars. Minimum spend fortakeout or delivery ends four thirty. Dude,
I'm getting Buffalo Wild Wings. Didyou just do an ad read for
I sure did, because Cooper didit. I'm I'm relaying that he's an

(48:05):
influencer, Dude. He influenced meto influence this podcast. Everybody eat b
Dubs to support Coop and support BuffaloWobbings this weekend. I actually am a
huge fan of Buffalo walb Wings too, Like I'm I'm a large supporter.
Uh, but yeah, I thinkI think I don't know who do you
think should replace him? You know, people have said Chris Hassel, people
have said I've heard Tim Dwight,Chuck Long, Me and Kevin Again.

(48:32):
You don't want me to do it? Uh? I don't want to do
it. If if they came tome and offered me the job, I
would tell them, please get someoneelse to do this. You do not
want to dilute the product with someoneas shitty as me. Play by play
another story there, like in fiveor ten years, if they're if they
need a play by play guy,I might be like, I could try

(48:52):
it, but uh, color calm, I just play by play is also
such an art. It's such anart, and there's so many people in
the industry already broadcast games that arewaiting for spots like this. You know,
like colors colors a little different thoughyou kind of got a like,
just being good at play by playdoes not mean you were good at color

(49:14):
and vice versa. Percent. Idon't know. I hope they find somebody
good. Dallas Clark would be wild. That'd be crazy after listening to him
to I mean, they'd never gethim off the broadcast. They would have
to have uh, they'd have toput a leash on him. And then
finally, last topic of the dayis QB two has entered the transfer portal.

(49:40):
Big Deep Energy will be leaving IowaCity. Oh this is who should
be the color commentary. We shouldget Deacon to just step in as our
color calm guy, Deacon Petrice. Those are my first two options. Due.
Oh dude, Petrice would be sosick. Actually, he'd be really
good at it. I'm serious.Uh, posted to Twitter, dec and
says, Iowa you have given methe best years of my life. I

(50:02):
have built some of the most importantrelationships in my life and I'm eternally grateful
for that. This program has taughtme so much about life and given me
experiment experiences that will carry on fora lifetime. I am so thankful to
have been sorry. My eye itchesand I had to take my glasses off
to be able to learn from CoachFerence Brian, Coach Bud, and the
entire coaching staff. They have taughtme so much more than just about the

(50:25):
sport that we all love. Tomy teammates, you have no idea how
much y'all mean to me, andI truly wish nothing but the success for
every single one of you. Heall brought me in and made me one
of your own, and I willforever be grateful for that. With all
that being said, I have madethe decision to enter my name of the
transfer portal with two years of eligibilityremaining. After some conversations with in deep
talks of my family, I feelthis is what's best for my future.

(50:45):
Thank you Iowa for everything, whichmeans that we're probably looking at Iowa grabbing
somebody else in the portal like Ifwe don't, then Marco Linez is our
number two and Cade isn't even healthyyet. So I have to imagine,

(51:09):
sorry, I can take that outof there. I have to imagine that
that the old staff there in IowaCity has a plan for this, or
they got eyes on somebody, orthey if I'm putting my iowahawkeyed GM hat
on right now, you just goget the best player. It doesn't have
to be a quarterback as far asjust to fill the scholars. Go find

(51:32):
that out there that can help youthis year. Yeah, that's certainly.
You think that's putting a lot oftrust in Marco is our number two.
I mean he's going into a secondyear. You should be developed enough to
be a second string quarterback. Ihope. So I don't know what's going

(51:53):
to turn of this, but Ihope that is the case. I hope
that we don't need him. It'dbe nice to just have caid for the
entire year. But he got hurtat Michigan, he got hurt last year.
He's still on the me nd.You got to have a backup plan.
And if they think if they've seenwhat they've seen from Marco and they're
like, hey, I think wekind of like, what we've got here?

(52:15):
And then I think they've got theresar guy coming in this year or
this summer, and they're like,I think he's a good third option.
Then okay, let's roll. Butthere's definitely some conversations around that being had.
So Deacon Hill will not be thebig guy, will be taking his

(52:36):
talents elsewhere. What do you whatdo you think about that? Grant?
As a fan of the team,I like to Deacon there was a nice
guy. I thought he did everythinghe could of what he was asked.
I wish him well. I hopeI'll support him wherever he goes. Yeah,
I I applaud him for coming inlast year and taking all the crap

(52:57):
that he did. Because tough tobe an Iowa quarterback for the last couple
of years. It's not super easy. The fan base, we just we
just put them in a hole.So who knows where that goes. Uh,
that's tonight's episode. I'm about toeat ice cream and I don't know,
watch the Voice or something. Whatdo you got on docket tonight?

(53:19):
Grant? You got is this finalsweek or is it next week? Uh?
Finals week is in two weeks, two weeks. But I'm currently and
this is like senior senior projects andstuff like do you have any actual finals
or that all projects. I won'thave any actual finals, but that's kind
of sick. I have the nextlike five ish days, Grant. Grant's
gonna be locked in. Okay, locked in. We gotta stay dialed.

(53:43):
It sounds good, cool, Well, stay dialed, my friend. I'm
gonna try my best. Good luck. We'll talk to you next time.
Probably a draft recap. The draftis uh, the draft happened this weekend,
but we're an episode ahead, sowe'll talk about that on the third
day. See where Cooper's going.Joe Evans, Logan, Lee, A
