Steve is from Crofton, MD and joined the 2013 Iowa Football recruiting class as a Fullback out of Archbishop Spalding HS as a fellow Walkon. One of those unsung heroes Steve didn't see any action on the field but busted his ass day in and day out as an Iowa Hawkeye behind the scenes, and after our 4th season hung up the cleats for the career that he said he would always pursue, and is fully enveloped in today, Pro Wrestling. Steve tells us about his journey in the wrestling world over the last 7 years going from shows in front of a couple of people for 5 dollars a night, to now wrestling multiple times a weekend in front of crowds 500 people deep all across the country and internationally as well. He takes us through some of his more wild moments in the ring, his favorite places to put on a show, his time in Germany, the odds we see him wrestling in Japan in the future, and a whole lot more.

be all of the above. Pleasesit back and enjoy this episode with the

(00:21):
one called Manders. Let's have aday, Let's go. Hopefully in a

(00:52):

heard a lot about him. Soare we speaking with Steve or the one
called Manners? Do we know yet? I don't know if we ever know?

(01:17):
Or they? Are they one andthe same? Or is the one
called Manders more of a persona?Because I used the difference between talking with
Dwayne Johnson and the Rock, You'reabsolutely right, So I don't know is
the answer to that. I feellike, and we've had him on before.

(01:37):
I feel like Steve is pretty muchjust Steve when he comes on here.
Look at this guy. Here,he is Steve Man, it's a
buddy. Oh just I was walkingduck donaesty and then he texted me.
I go, oh shit, it'sfucking six thirty. Yeah, me,

(02:01):
me and my girlfriend sweater right,so we uh, we've been watching it.
So dude, you're that is theleast surprising thing that I've heard.
I know. Maybe ever have youhunted ducks before? No? I have
not. Have you hunted anything before? I founded I founded pheasants like back

(02:23):
in the day. But did youever did you ever go hunting in college
with like Boone or anybody? Ohyeah Boone and Boone ike bow okay,
old good old days. Dude. How you doing, brother, dude?
I'm good. I am. Imade dinner, made chicken, some rice,

(02:43):
some mixed veggies, and uh,here we are are you? Are
you liking an RV right now?Is that how you travel? Dude?
Let's go? I know, Andthat was pretty sick, how like?
Because you because you basically have tobecause you're all over the I mean,
I don't have to be, butI chose to be because it's cheap as

(03:04):
fun, it's easier. It's dude, there's things you gotta learn as you
go, but like it's pretty great. This guy over to our right is
our is our producer. He's ahe's a student at Iowa. Right now,
this is Grant. Yeah, niceto meet you. Should he address
you as Steve or the one calledManders? Would you? I introduced you

(03:27):
to our producer over here on theside, Grant? Oh no, this
is this is the that I wouldexpect from Steve. No. Do it
happened? If they have starlink inthe r V? Yeah, I got

(03:49):
you? Do we I lost youguys and I just I just ron off
the Wi Fi of my bed.Yeah you're good. I was what you
said? What did you say?I tried to introduce you to our guy
over here, Grant, who's ourproducer. He's a student at Iowa.
How are you? I was wonderingwho that was? No to meet you,

(04:10):
man, We were we were tryingto figure out if this is the
hell of the introduction for me?Right here? Hey, I mean I've
heard a lot of good things. The one called manners has been requested amongst
fans and listeners. It's been awhile, it's been a long time.
I think we had yeah, Ithink yeah, I think we've had you
on like around like like three orfour hundred episodes ago. Yeah, A

(04:35):
lot of a lot of things happened. What things, what things? Good
things are bad things? Uh?You know this life. But yeah,
you're still You're still You're still wrestling, Yes, wrestling like a fucking maniac.
How many do you have any ideahow many shows you've done? It's

(04:57):
got to be almost a thousand probably, Yeah, like going all the way
back to like your first few showslike Walcott, it's gotta be like a
thousand. Yeah, that's amazing. It's fucking wild. What is what do
you like? How much do youlearn over that time? Like so much?
Right? A lot, dude,It's just like anything, right,

(05:20):
Like I did feel like I'm aI wouldn't say I'm a master baby,
right, you would say what likepretty close though, ten thousand hours to
become a master? Yeah, yeah, it's just the same concept. It
says I've definitely hit ten easily.Yeah. What so tell me, like

(05:43):
you're did you go to wrestlemting.Dude, I didn't. I didn't go.
I woke up at like six pm. That's how tired I was.
I slept all day. I didn't. I didn't get done till like we
had our last show at like midnight, and it was like god like till
like four am. I was done. I was in the I was in

(06:04):
this match for like an hour.It was like sixty eight minutes. I
was in it. You had asixty eight minute match the night before Wrestlemingia
literally literally the night of WrestleMania. After it ended, we did another one
at midnight. It's called like theClusterfuck. So it's like yeah, so
it's like it's like the Royal Rumblebut likes it absolutely makes no sense,

(06:26):
but it's basically like like a WorldRumble, but instead of like being thrown
out, it's like you can eitherget pinned or submitted or you could just
leave if you want or uh orlike they made it. They made the
joke like to death but like obviouslyno one dies. So yeah, I
was in that for like sixty eightminutes and the match was like what three
hours long? Yeah, Jesus Christ, Yeah, it was I mean a

(06:49):
lot of it was just me sittingthere. I had like seven beers from
fans. But like during the match, during the match, yes, we
can, we can find we canfind a picture of it for sure.
Oh my god, it's kind ofstupid. It's kind of stupid. Can
you explain? So do a lotof these Obviously WrestleMania is like the tippity

(07:10):
Top, Oh, yeah, forsure, But like the sort of promotions
and matches that you're wrestling in,are those Are there just a bunch of
those going on adjacent to WrestleMania, like in the same city that Mania is
in. Yeah, around that, especially especially in like Philly and Jersey,
there's like a fuck ton of wrestling, like but like GCWS like probably like
the third biggest company in the world. So like, so I aw had

(07:34):
their thing on Saturday. It was, uh it was for Ring of Honor
or Supercar, which I was therealmost got almost got booked for. But
I'm kind of glad I didn't becausethat's I was supposed to be was fucking
terrible, So I was glad Iwouldn't it. And then uh so I
was just sitting backstage everybody. Andthen after that I went to No it

(07:55):
was Sunday, wasn't it. Nevermind? You see, they all run
together a lot is your life, dude, Your life is nuts, dude,
It's nuts. Yeah, very veryvery But so WrestleMania Week is sort
of like this whole lead up.There's all this stuff going on. Yeah,
so normally it starts that, likenormally like shows start Thursday, but

(08:16):
a lot of the shows this westarted like Monday, but like a lot
of them, like they're kind oflike fucking shitty, so like you don't,
like, I mean, unless you'regetting paid for at school. But
like I didn't show up till likeWednesday. I actually pulled the RV up.
We drove from like I live inTennessee now, so it's like it's
like nine hours, which I haven'tdrove that long in a long long time.
And uh I parked at Wednesday,we like hung out some people and

(08:39):
then like from my Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I wrestled.
But I also did like wrestle Con, which is like it's basically like the
non w like old guys too,and like some of like your indie guys
and like we were all there justselling shirts and shit. So I did
that a lot, So that wasa lot. So Sunday when George hit

(09:00):
me up, well, George tryingto hit me up Saturday, and I
was like, dude, I gottawrestle. Like he was like mad at
me about it, and I waslike, I don't know what you're gonna
tell you, because maybe has atwo day event. I ate a lot.
Yeah, and then like he waslike, okay, I get so
Sunday. I was like, yes, someday, and then I didn't wake
up, so so the event startedbasically yeah, I did, yeah,
and I was like a fuck oopssorry, yeah, and George was front

(09:26):
row. Yeah, George was frontrow because he always is. It was
a him Bruce and top Gun itwas his name. I forget top Gun's
real name, but that's basically that'swhat they call him. He's like,
he's like you remember him if youremember, Like, was it juice Chick?
No, it wasn't cheese check. It's like he was like an Iowa

(09:48):
buddy. He don't play football.Oh, he s got like dicks sporting
goods from what I remember, butthen he lived in Denver and I don't
know. He's like a buddy ofGeorge Okay, I don't know. I
I might know if I saw them. So you're wrestling all week, all
these events are going on for peoplethat are in town for the for Mania
and you are You're then in thisthree hour match for sixty eight minutes?

(10:11):
How does how do how? Howdo you? Because this is an entertainment
thing, right, Like you guyshave a show to put on? Yeah,
how do you get? Like whatdoes the script look like? For
that? Oh? It was chaotic. It's like they like try to like
so Brett's the promoter for GCW okay, like like tells the script and there's

(10:35):
like there's got to be over onehundred people on this right, And I'm
like, so how do you evenkeep track? Like you it's like like
I know my I know my spots. So like I entered like twelve,
okay, I knew I was gettingout around like forty two, and like
I was like, okay, I'mjust wait until forty two. And in
my mind, I'm like, howthe fuck am I in this for so

(10:56):
long? Right? But then likeI just made the most of it.
A lot of it was like onthe fly, so like a lot of
it, Like I'm sitting there listeningto all these tabbroni's and then like I'm
listening to these fans and then likeI'm getting beers as it happens, and
then like certain music music's being played, so I'm like playing with the music
making fun of them. And thenlike one of the guys mixes like he

(11:18):
wears a suit and tie, andlike I grabbed this tie and I started
throwing it at the fans, andthe fans kept throwing it back, and
we like made a whole entertainment thingout of it. Like it's yes,
it's crazy, but like a lotof it. There was like so many
people and like so many people gothurt like doing like stupid shit, and
I'm just sitting here just like we'rejust ruining the concept of this gimmick,

(11:39):
Like like what the concept of thisis for. It's like a lot of
it. Like a lot of peoplewere just sitting and you were drunk.
You had seven beers. I wasn'tdrunk at all. Surprisingly, I mean
seven seven beers in an hour.It is not that bad. Oh Jesus,
is this a regular thing? Likewhat's your like beers per match average?
No? No, not think atall. He's basically stone cold.

(12:01):
They're just throwing out, Yeah he'sover the top. I not right.
Many mania is this is not everyThis is not every I do not wrestle
for eight minutes. Yeah, it'sa long time. That's a long fucking
time, bro. Like normally matchesare like ten to fifteen minutes probably,

(12:22):
yeah, which is crazy to thinkof that concept is like you get paid.
Let's say I cause I get paidnow like either three hundred to like
five hundred dollars, And then it'slike, okay, let's say if you
like flew or drove, then likeyou think of all these things and like
you're doing all of this for tento fifteen minutes much. I mean,

(12:43):
that's pretty good. It's pretty good. But then some of it's like kind
of like when we first started, like walk how iwall, Like, what
the fuck? You get five dollars? Steve? Like, are you sure
you wanted to do five? No? You didn't get five bucks? Five
bucks? Bro? No, whatstarted you? When you were doing your
first matches out of the Black,Black and Brave Wrestling School five dollars?

(13:05):
Steve Manners just knew he's got twomatches under his belt, and you would
show up and wrestle for five bucksfive bucks, swear for a long time
for like like a good year. For sure. I didn't start making money
till like, like really making moneytill like had a year or two ago

(13:26):
and start. So that's such acrime. Brother, Oh, I know,
I'm aware. How did how howhave you stayed the course? I
don't know. I guess I lovereally much. I guess I know you
love it. But if you thinkabout it, what's difference between that and

(13:46):
being a ga at Iowa where you'remaking thirty grain if that and you put
in seventy hours easily. Yeah,No, I get I get it,
I get it. We just wejust had justin Limo. Yeah, so
like having Lima telling you, youknow what I mean, like Lima wouldn't
getting paid coach droll right in away. No, yeah, oh yeah,

(14:07):
it's it's uh fucking both, Duke. It's similar, It's similar,
And I know that I certainly don'tquestion your passion for it. It's always
been since freshman year. Yeah, you have to be insane, for sure,
you have to. Yeah, you'reyou're you are you're you're nuts.
Yeah. See, and you startedthis as you do, Grand bien take

(14:31):
to take the riot and ring Obro because Steve for a reminder, because
you came on and you told yourstory a little bit before, but obviously
there's three or four more extra yearsto the story. Here you are.
You made it to two thousand andsixteen January twenty sixteen with us, yep,
yep, right after the Rose Bowlbasically out Back Bowl. Okay,

(14:54):
so you made it through the OutbackBowl, so as you, me and
Cluve I am Clue George, andwe went to Overall with my dad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, aftergetting our ass beat correct. Yeah,
And and Bruce and Claire were alsothere. Yeah, but they weren't sitting

(15:16):
with us, correct. Yeah,We the four of us sat together.
It was awesome. Goldberg was there, Colbert was there right, Oh my
god at the end. Yeah,I forgot about that. In fact,
I think he got He might havegot speared by Roman in that match.

(15:37):
I'd have to go back him.Yeah, And he was wearing all the
like the Affliction ship, which madehim look like a douchebag. But whatever,
but it was still Goldberg. Itwas It's still gold cool until like
you get in the business and yourealize he sucks. Only your Heroes Cluve,
Well, don't tell me that Ithat was your So you finished out

(16:02):
two thousand, the two thousand andsixteen season, yep, we went to
the Altback Bowl, and then weall had one more year left. Yep.
But Steve Manners said it's time,it's time, it's time to be
a worldwide sensation. Two weeks later, I did training for wrestling. You

(16:25):
were in you were you were inwrestling school with seth Rawlins yep, in
Davenport, Iowa. Yep. Andso from two thousand, so from twenty
and seventeen, basically through the heatof the pandemic five years, four or
five years it's seven now seven. But up through that point, yeah,

(16:48):
you were taking shows from anywhere fromfive to one hundred bucks a night yep.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, everyweekend yep, more Wednesdays. I
miss how many weddings? I missso many to all the boys, and
I would be I mean, it'smy it's it's my regret, right,

(17:11):
But I would I think about thisthing a lot where it's like, Damn,
I miss Bo's wedding, Josie's wedding, Shawn's wedding, Brand's married.
Now, yeah, brand's had ababy. Yeah, fucking everybody's married now
and I missed all of it becausein this correct well we'll get yeah,

(17:33):
we'll get to that. You lookgood, uh yeah, all to get
to the point now where you are, like, because back then you had
to. I remember at one pointyou were working in a gym, you
were with a top shape because youhad to. You had to make money
elsewhere because the the oh yeah, and now you're to the point where you're

(17:56):
just like you're you are it's sustainable. Yeah, I don't have to.
I haven't worked in like a year, is that? And that's awesome it
is, but also too, likeI liked. I liked working because it
made me saying so now I'm likesometimes I'm like losing my mind a little

(18:17):
bit. You're just a crazy sonof a bitch now just one hundred the
time. Yeah, pretty much.Do you did you have any concept of
how long it would take you toget to a place where you could sustain

(18:37):
and not have to work another job, and the wrestling money would actually you'd
be able to pay the bills.I mean, right now, you it's
just pretty much gas and all thatgets paid for. Two they paid for
that. Yeah, I started figuringout like also to like this is this
year I finally started my own LCand that's and that's a big move.

(19:02):
Yeah, So like I started thinkingall that kind of shit. I thought,
like, hopefully by thirty I Ihave like I could be fine.
And I was pretty good at liketwenty nine twenty eight, so I kind
of was kind of in the realm. So you were you had that foresight.
I mean you you know signed bythen too, But that's not a

(19:27):
but like once you start doing it, it, Like I loved it so
much that it doesn't matter if itis that or not. That makes it
if you're if, if you're ifit's able to sustain you. I think
that more than that, more thananything is. Yeah, not many people
can say that, No, becauseit took wrestling at all. It took

(19:48):
five or six years. I meanthat is the ultimate. And I know
it's that way with everything because I'veread, like I read Jericho's book,
I read a couple other books oflike how even the best in the world
have to absolutely grind in. Imean Seth was, yeah doing for example,
he was doing you know, highschool gymnasiums in front of twelve people

(20:11):
when he started, and like allthese other big time dudes were too.
Yeah, it's just crazy to me, And it's it's crazy that even at
twenty two years old, you're like, yeah, if I can get there
in eight years, like, I'llsign up for that. Yeah, you're
nuts, bro, but you likeCasey going in the same time, not

(20:33):
that you're dude. I'm telling you, and I've been telling people for a
long time that we're going to seethe one called Manders on big time television
at some point. It's coming.I know it's coming. I believe so
a w or ring of honor, whatever you want to call him. They've
been messaging me for the past yearand I've been like, cool, yeah,

(20:59):
I'll do extra work, I'll dowhatever, but I'm not being some
Joe blow because I'm not a Joeblow. And a lot of them were
like, okay, it's like that'sfair, and a lot of it like
because like they already have a cowboyguy like on TV is the name's like
hey Man Page and a lot Andfor a long time they were like,
well, you can't be your gimmickand I was like, well, I
doing and then you you're you're andthen recently they've been like, yeah,

(21:22):
okay, that's fine, that works, And like I was gonna be on
Ring of Honor on Saturday, whichis Supercard, which is crazy because like
it made me reflective. Like Iremember the first media I went to in
Louisiana, New Orleans, and meand Georgia were there and we literally bought
tickets to Ring of Honor to watchhimah, and then like I would have
been so I had to show thatday at like at like three for Wrestling

(21:47):
Revolver, which they run in Iowa, and and Dating and a bunch of
places right, and like, uh, I thought, was they have them
to be like because it's called timesat two, like my show don startled
three, Like I'm like I'll probablyget there on four, and they were
like, oh, it's totally fine, don't worry about it. I was
like, okay, cool. SoI got there like four four thirty,
and I guess they already booked thesix Man and then they were like basically

(22:12):
telling me like, damn, youwould have been in this if you would
have came a little earlier. Butthen like I watched it and I was
like, I'm glad I wasn't init because it was really bad. So
like I'm okay, but like I'llbe here. It's cool. Yeah,
so that's all everybody. So it'scool. But they gave me like two
other dates once next Wednesday for Dynamite, which is on TBS or TNT,

(22:33):
one of two I remember, andthen so we'll see. This is ray.
It's very dude, We'll see. That's kind of it's kind of big.
It's kind of big, kind ofbig. I and I'm so nonchalant
about it, and I hate it, but that's just the well you underplaned.
It seems pretty big to me.It's a big deal. It's a

(22:56):
big deal. When I was therethough, it like blew my mind because
like all the guys that are therereally like some of them were in w
W, but a lot of themlike we're on the indies and I wrestled
them before and like so like whenI was there, it's just like reminded
me of like I was like, this is the same thing is what I
do every weekendah the time. There'sno fucking difference. It's just three letters

(23:18):
that are different and the house isa little bigger. There's no but like
It's also like this isn't like, well, we've witnessed for every Saturday for
four or five years where it's eightythousand, so it's not that. Yeah,
I was just gonna say that. It's it's like, you know,
you're playing football in Maryland and you'rerunning back in front of Uh. I
forgot where you went to high school. But yeah, and then all of

(23:41):
a sudden you're in Kinnick and it'sa little different. Yeah, but it's
still it's still the same game, right, Yeah, it's still the same
game. Ain't nothing like that walkThat walk down the tunnel is a swarm
of sick man gets you. Itgets you juice, and I gotta imagine
getting getting your name called, youknow, the walk out of the tunnel.
Yeah at an aw yeah, matchwould be it would get the heart

(24:07):
gone. Like I was in Germanylike a month. I was gonna ask
you about this because I saw onyour Twitter. I went and I was
like, what's he been doing recently? And I saw some match where it
was like it was bigger. Therewas a lot of people there and they
were the largest panting your name. It's the largest tournament in Europe. It's
like the biggest tournament in Europe andI was there and like I remember I

(24:30):
did a qualifier in September for itwhen I was there, and I wrestled
the next we guy like like forit and he's like their dude, seems
like actual tissure. But like Iliterally almost had a breakdown where I was
like before I walked out, likehis entrance went out and I go,
oh fuck, I'm I don't thinkI'm ready for this, Like I've never

(24:52):
had that since like when I firststarted. And then literally my music hit
and I heard the people and Igo, nah, we're fine, and
I walked out. Well yeah,it's that's so sick, kind of wild.
So I was just gonna ask,so you are you're at the point
where you're going to Germany? Yeah, like you've gone. I go back

(25:18):
there in September. Yeah, andthen we're doing like England, Ireland,
France, I think Italy maybe. So I was gonna say, how many
have you gone elsewhere? Other countries? Uh? Just Mexico and Canada.
It's it okay, Samanders World Tour. Yeah you gotta is the one called
Manders get a like a cowboy luchador mask when he goes down to no,

(25:41):
no, no, it'd be cool, though, it would be so
sick, it would be cool. There was this guy we were like,
uh teaming with. His name's Microman. He's gotta be that's all you think
he is. He's like he's likelegalized, like a mid year right,
Like he's like smoke. But yeah, you can't call it down down in

(26:03):
Mexico. Yeah, he's Microman. He's like he's like maybe four feet tall.
He was your tag partner. Hewas like one of my tag partners.
Yeah, it was. It wasfucking it's sick. It's sick.
Yeah, look him up Microman, dude, it's funny. It's fucking hilarious.
Can you pull up a Microman onthe side there that is type in
Microman Luca Leebray see if he comesout. Uh so what does your You

(26:33):
were in Marshalltown Couples Ago? Iwas. I was. There was the
fucking fan that ran in the ringand got him a fight. I don't
know if you saw that. Itgot like what it got like one point
five million views or some ship likethat. Maybe use me. Yeah,
so after the main like some fanlike try to jump in the ring and
like try to like like like fight, I'm gonna have to find that.

(26:56):
And the dude like literally put himin his sleeper and he was and he
was like trying to tap and it'slike that's not how this works, bro.
Like I was sitting there like,uh, like like selling merch and
I'm watching this, I'm like, what the fuck. Yep, that's Microman.
That's your guy that you're telling meright now that you have tag teams
with this man right here. Yes, yes, yeah, I think there's

(27:19):
a picture of my Instagram somewhere ofthere's a T shirt made of us where
it's like SGC, which is likethe group I'm in. It's like me
man, it's Justice. And thenthere's Microman at the bottom. There's a
teachhert somewhere. I think it's Ithink it's I think it's at MLW dot
com or something. Yeah, yeah, it's dud. It's you meet.
You meet some weird fucking people inthis world. Dude. You have got

(27:40):
to have some of the nuttiest stories, oh, dude, for sure,
Like how many of these guys youlike, you show up and there's just
dudes ripping drugs in the back orlike doing some crazy ship A lot,
dude, all of them, notall of them, but there's a lot.
There's a lot, dude, there'sa lot. There's a lot,
dude. It's so have you everhad Have you found yourself as bad as

(28:00):
it wasn't the back in the day, Like probably not, but it's maybe
it's at least you know, likeI'm not really but like, yeah,
have you found yourself in a youknow, you book a you book a
show and you drive somewhere and you'relike, okay, this sound this seems
like good. You know, I'mgonna get decent money. And you show
up and you're like, oh,I'm a little bit scared of where I'm

(28:22):
at and what Maybe not scared, but like what the fuck did I did
I agree to? Like tell like, like, do you have one that
pops off the off the mind, like a show somewhere that's like I did
not sign up for? This ismaybe maybe when I first started, there's
this place called I w A midSouth and like all I think we've always

(28:45):
talked about it, I think, but like there's is this place that like
I literally met everyone and whoever andwhenever ran through there, like like all
the all the guys you see onTV like Styles Rawlins and Ambrose or Moxley.
Now, like all those guys likeran through there at least once,

(29:07):
and they all did it like atleast ten times probably. But so when
I was when I was starting wrestling, it was still around, and I
remember like driving six hours to basicallyLouisville and it was on the Indiana side,
and there was a loves connect toMcDonald's and across the street it was
the Memphis Trading Post is what theycalled it. It's a flea market,

(29:32):
so literally it was a flea market. On the other side of the building,
there was all these hot cars, like like all like the old school
like hot rods, and then theback corner it was ring. It was
a ring, and it was likebroken glass everywhere, like just a bunch
of bullshit everywhere. And I'm justlike, what the fuck did I get
myself into? But then like I'mso numb to it now that like I

(29:56):
see that shit all the time,so it's like doesn't matter. But like
but like like that's like the storiesof like I'm making nothing for this on
a Thursday in front of twelve people. Wow, dude, that's so absurd.
I like, that's so. Yeah. Now, if you would have
told me in college, yes,Steve is going to drive to the middle

(30:17):
of uh nowhere, USA, andhe's gonna jump off the top rope and
like, you know, just youknow, pound people for you know,
fifteen minutes in front of thirteen fansfor seventy five bucks, I would have
said, Yeah, that sounds aboutright. I think that sounds about right.

(30:41):
Yeah. Uh, And I thinkall of us would have because we
just that's just about who you wereall the time. Yeah. I couldn't
do that now, though, Idon't know if i'd want to. I
don't well, I don't know.If it's shows now, I'd be like,
uh, we're not doing shit today. Well, you it doesn't matter
how good you are now in thebeginning, because in the in the in

(31:07):
the wrestling industry, you have tobuild you have to build rapport, and
you kind of have to do hundredsof shows to earn your way up.
Yeah, it's like one of theavenues and the majority of people do.
Yeah, and so like you hadto start in front of twelve people,
mm hmm. How what would yousay is like the average size of an

(31:29):
audience now for like a weekend show, like five hundred re least Jesus Christ.
That's so like dramatic, three orfour times. What was in Walcott?
Yeah? Yeah, they didn't evenrun to Walcott anymore, dude,
They run in a Bluegrass. Walcottwas sick. Walcott was sick, dude,
being so they got like new ownersand then the lady like didn't want

(31:52):
wrestling anymore. So that's sad.But Bluegrass is like ten times better.
I was just there. I wasa see'd be like like two months ago.
Really I go back in like acouple of weeks. How often are
you back in Iowa? Every coupleof months? At least once every other
month? Okay, yeah we goso anybody anybody listening? Uh, we

(32:15):
can start posting them one called Mander'sdates and around the Iowa area. Yeah.
What what does the schedule look like? Are you doing every Thursday,
Friday, Saturday? Is that? What are those the three big nights?
Or is it lately it's been likeFriday, Saturday, Sunday? Okay,
come back, I come back Monday. So like like this week I got
no show Friday, but like Saturdayand Sunday, I'm in Bloomington, Indiana

(32:37):
on Saturday. It's like this companyI used to run before the pandemic and
they started running again, but likethey pay so and then uh, Sunday
is a big one. It's it'sthis place called Deadlock Pro. It's in
like it's in like Raligh, NorthCarolina, like during North Carolina. So
they're like, I don't even knowhow to describe it. They're like,

(32:59):
I never I never worked there before. I always wanted to. They're probably
like, this is the first timeyou've been there. It is the first
time I've been there, which iswhich is also rare to say, because
like I've wrestled basically everywhere for likewho's for the mist Is this right?
Is it? That is Deadlock Pro? So like they're run by like multiple

(33:20):
people and they're all like they're all, dude, why do I know Calvin
Tankman because Tankman was on those showslike with me a lot in Indiana.
Yeah, so the dude I'm wrestlingis see the tag team It's like Speedball
and something to the left is thedude I'm wrestling on Sunday. This guy
and I've yeah, and I've wrestledJake like a bunch and like Jake's fucking

(33:44):
what steroids is he on? Uh? Probably d ball And yeah he is
hell or something something. I've wrestledSpeedball too. Speedball's like he's like from
Montreal. He's an interesting character. He's like he's like a black belt in
Uh. Yeah, he's sick.Yeah, Speedball's sick. So Speetball has

(34:07):
been all over the world, Likehe's like, a he's legit. I
think I think my match is onTNA with him. Me and him wrestled
in TNA, which was sick.Uh, but it was for a revolver
but like they put it on thethey put it on their like YouTube subscriber,
which is like kind of cool.Like Speopleball is like one of the
best workers in the world. Likeliterally we had a sick one. It

(34:30):
was cool. Yeah, he's he'sreally great. So are you to the
point where you you turned down certainlike you're getting sought after and you have
to and now you're at the pointwhere you're like, Okay, I have
the ability to like take the onesthat pay me the most now yep,
And what is what does that looklike? If if you mind sharing,

(34:52):
like what's the most you've ever made? Like what's dude, Geremany? I
made Germany. I made fifteen hundredbucks on merch, just merch, on
merch, just merch for three days. Dude, what'd you make for the
show I made? I think Iwrestled four times. I made about a

(35:13):
grin. Yeah, like your tripto Germany, Yeah, dude, I
was. It was thick and likewhen I went and like came back and
the next week I was in Iowafor a Revolver, which is like a
pretty big promotion too. They're likegotta be two or three, like Deadlock's
probably two and then like they're probablythree, and like like I made decent

(35:34):
money, but like I got likekind of banged up in one of the
matches because I did a dumb spot, but like that's whatever, it's side
the point. But it's like Iwent there and then like come back here,
and I'm like, fuck, dude, this is this is bullshit,
Like I should just stay there. Are you are you doing any weekends or
like once a month consistently, Likeis there like a certain promotion like I

(36:00):
aways run with Yeah yeah yeah.GCW is probably the one, okay,
GCW, MLW and and Revolvers probablythe three I always do the most.
Yeah, I mean there's other's two, but those are like the three big
three ones actually has TV. Theyused to be on reels, which is
like a channel where like cops wouldcome on. But then like Peacock bought

(36:22):
it, so then like Peacock workswith w W E and then like they
were basically saying like we can't haveMLW with Peacock with w E. So
like there's like a huge lawsuit thatuh that that MLW one. So they
got like a couple of million outof it. So like yeah, yeah,
hey Steve, O, we gottawe gotta talk about something, buddy.

(36:45):
Yeah, is that like there's alight tubes? So that match was
Rina Yamashidas. That's the Japanese girlthat's getting hit with the light tube.
And then the other girl that's MashraSlimovich. Uh, she just wrestled Sanda
Basler. Uh blood support at manya weekend. Steve, this this lady's
bleeding out. Oh yeah, sothat was at Corgan Hall, which is

(37:07):
like Mad Square Garden for like Japanesestadiums. And uh, they're doing like
a independent movie that they're running inNew York about it. Hey, what
Hey, uh, seems like someof the stuff you're doing is a little
dangerous, oh for sure, Butlike I don't really I mean I've done

(37:29):
light tubes, but like I don't, I don't, I don't. I
don't partake in it, really,Steve, that's you're lying. I see
I see videos of you see medo it, you see me do it,
But like I don't like regularly doit, Steve, And I don't
really want to. And then aftermy accident I had in Iowa, I
don't want to do it. Nowwhat did what? What did you do
in Iowa? I jump? Iflew out of a scaffold. So it

(37:52):
was like like three like three stories, like not three stories, like you
know, like when you when youwhen you when you set up a scaffold,
it's got like three yeah. Infact, so it was like three
stacks high on some platforms. Itook a Spanish fly, which is basically
like me doing a flip onto acouple of panes and a couple of doors.

(38:17):
I was told it was not that, and once I was up there,
I was like, well, fuck, can't go back because it's like
a live performance. Can't just sayno. So I like flipped and landed.
When I landed through the glass, part of my uh like right here
got cut. So I was likefreaking out and getting pissed off. And

(38:38):
good thing I didn't hit an arterybecause I would have went to the hospital,
which I have health insurance. Butstill beside the point after that,
I was like, how many wrestlersdon't have health insurance? A lot too
many? Too many, too many. I think it's crazy. I think
it's crazy, but it's whatever.Yeah, I there's there's a lot of

(39:04):
pictures and you're bleeding mm hmm allover your face. Does there have to
be so much blood that you can'tsee? Yeah, A lot of it
gets like clouded, right, Solike if you like have the Crimson mask
and you start like bleeding a lot, and like it'll start clodding, so
like you'll start like like you likewipe your face and you get like the
goop that like stretches out to here. But like I don't I've done it,

(39:30):
of course, I like, butlike that's not it's not as common
as you think. Uh. Ithink it's funny how social media works because
like you pick the ones that arecrazy, right, So it makes it
look like, you're nuts. II understand that. I do understand that.
I just think that I see ita lot. It just feels like,
yeah, you do. I don'twhen I see my when I see

(39:53):
my friend from college bleeding down hisface, I guess like, like,
what are we doing here? Whatis now? Yeah? That was the
match I was talking about. Yeah, oh jeez, I went through.
Yeah, I went through. Obviouslythere's probably a lot of drinking involved before
I did it, and I knewI was bleeding, so like a lot
did we take like aspirin, whichlike THENDS the blood so on purpose?

(40:19):
On purpose? So it's that.Yeah, that's that's the flip. If
you want to look click on that. Uh yeah, there you go.
Oh my god. Yeah, therewas probably about there was probably like a
thousand people there. We call christdude, stop questioning me, dude.

(40:44):
That's insane. Yeah, I know, that's that's the craziest thing you've ever
done. Uh yeah, probably whatwhat what do you have to consider,
like Steve, come on, Yeah, but I I clearly did that.
I drink a lot of that matchto like, yeah, when you when

(41:06):
you put it out of context,it sounds really fucking brutal. But yeah,
no, it's it's uh yeah, pretty much. Everybody to take a
stroll down one called Manders Instagram page. It's it's a it's a nice little
story. Is this your dog?No? So me and my girlfriend we
went to a lama farm, whichwas like near sorry, I said,

(41:27):
lama alta Yeah, Lamas are wayway more mean than alpacas. But we
went to the alpaca farm just likehang out with the fame and pets and
out packets. I was sick andthey had like like seven dogs running around
and me and me and a pumpkin. Pumpkin butt is what the dog's name

(41:51):
was. They didn't like naming thedogs by their names, like by like
human names, so they like onewas called like loug nut. Jesus,
what was the three legged dog's name? Was it? Lugnut? Baby?
I think you are a three leggeddogs? Toe, I am a three
legged dog. It was cute though, like it was funny, like I
I I parked and laterly I walkedout and there was like seven dogs right

(42:14):
next to me. I'm just likeokay, because yeah, Jesus Christ,
what's the what's the if? Ifyou could shape and do exactly what you
wanted to do every weekend, likeif you could, if you could form
your own schedule, or like Iguess what I'm asking is like what's the

(42:36):
dream here? Like is the dreamas someone who's actually in the industry put
in the work, grinded the hours, gone to the gymnasiums in front of
thirteen people? Is the dream toactually be on WW or is it to
be Yeah, I would lie toyou if I said now or AEW or
is it? I know at onepoint you were like huge, like you

(42:58):
the goal was like go to Japan. Yeah, I think that's like the
most like realistic big one I thinkcan be done, and it's not.
It's not far really done. Likewhen I go back in Germany in September.
Uh it's called the World Tag League, and uh Noah, which is
a Japanese company that's like by numbertwo right now, like New Japan's wont,

(43:22):
New Japan's won, and Noah's No'snumber two and like I can tell
you the lore and run down likelike what's so great about Noah? But
like a lot of I think that'sthe one. It would be sick to
wrestle there, And I think wrestlingfor New Japan would be sick. That's
my goal. They and they're likesuper bought in in Japan to the to

(43:45):
wrestling. Yeah, it's I mean, you know, Japan always has like
the weird like weird sport, likelike aroma about it. I don't know
why. Like like you got snumowrestling, you got pro wrestling, you
got slat fights like you see inRussia. You see that in Japan.
Like like the joke of like watchinguh, like the joke of like when

(44:15):
you watched uh Forrest Gump where likehow he went over to Japan to like
do ping pong tournaments, like likethose are all like a thing. Yeah,
So like that's like, So theguy in the far right, that's
Kojima. The guy in the middle, that's uh. This guy's sixty years
old. Yeah, he's like hisname's like Blue Justice God. They are

(44:40):
in a massive arena. Yeah, that's the Tokyo though. So the guy
Kojima in the far right, Iwrestled with him a couple of weeks ago
in MLW. He's the MLW champion. So me and him, it was
me and him, my partner Justiceand another Japanese guy. We did like

(45:00):
a war Games match where it waslike two rings, one big cage,
and we wrestled these other four uhtwo of them actually been to New Japan.
They wrestled New Japan. They werechampions in New Japan. So like
the thing cool by MLW is likethey they partnered with CMLO, which is
a company in Mexico, and thenNew Japan is the other one that they

(45:20):
partnered with, So like having thoseguys being around those like the fact that
I did a Wargames match with Satoshiko Jima, who's like the only Jez
He's like one of like the threeJapanese wrestlers that I've ever had a championship
in like All Japan, Noah, and New Japan. So like that was
constick and like Kojina is old buthe's like fifty two. But like the
stuff do you have? How closeare you to booking something like that?

(45:46):
Like me actually booking it or mebeing in it whatever, Like how those
because those are two different things? What does that mean? What does that
mean? Like if I wanted tobe a promoter and ran a show,
like I'm sure I could do it, but it would be very hard.
But no, not no, likebeing in it. I do you have

(46:07):
the connection still, Yeah, Ihave the connections. I don't think it's
hard. I think it's coming inJapan. Yeah, I don't think it's
I think it's pretty doable. Likea lot of what's stopping you from doing
just trying to build here in theUnited States more, I think I think
a lot of it. A lotof it's like politics, and a lot

(46:28):
of it's like just buying your timewaiting for that moment. Yeah, I
don't want to. I don't wantto be those guys that like has to
bug people in order to be bookedin it or fly myself out to fucking
do it. Like I don't wantto do that, and it's not right.
That's not the dream, right. The dream is to spend to spend
someone else's money and see the worldin someone else's eyes. Yeah. Absolutely,

(46:50):
I think a lot of it's that. I think a lot of it's
that, like like in two weeks, like I wrestle in New Mexico for
GCW, We're wrestling in the venuethat Breaking Bad used to like produce him.
Yeah. Oh, I think ifyou go on GW, pach it
was like the third thing on therein Albuquerque, New Mexico. And I've

(47:10):
never been to New Mexico at all. It's like one of the few states
I've never I've been to like fortysix, forty seven states and not to
wrestle, but like I've I've been. I've wrestled in forty states. But
like that'll be another one. That'scool. You've wrestled in forty of the
fifty states. Yes, wow, yeah? Is it love? I love
this? This is awesome. Ohthat's it right there. Yeah, that's

(47:31):
it right there. Breaking GCW Sunday, April twenty first the Dirtyup Urban Albuquerque,
New Mexico. Yep. I like, uh so like that week I'll
have I'll be at Dynamite on Wednesday, which is in Indiana, like Indianapolis,
and then I'm gonna go home andthen I'm gonna fly to Chicago.
I wrestled Chicago for two days orthe other one's like LaSalle but like whatever,

(47:54):
and then uh and then I'll flythere and wrestle and then go home.
Uh. And I'll go back inIowa next. How far are you
booked out? How far are youbooking out due till like October? Really,
I mean there's a lot of likeholes, and there's like one week
where it's like, hey, Ihaven't got this yet, but I'm sure

(48:15):
i'll get it eventually. A lotit's like GCW runs so much and Brett
Brett the promoters so disorganized that likeyou just kind of wait on it.
Do you ever take a weekend off? Yeah? I took a weekend well
here out, so I took Itook a week off after I got cut

(48:36):
up here. Uh yeah, that'dprobably be smart, but I yeah,
of course I'm not that silly. And I uh but like I was still
gonna get paid to not wrestle, and I still went to the shows,
but I just was there, Wow, what a go? So like the
next week I went to Next week, I had a show in like near
Atlanta, and then I had anothershow in like Chattanooga. So like I

(49:00):
just I just went to you know, just like to help out the kids
and like just help out. ButI still got paid and still sell merch
And I was like it's kind ofnice. I don't have to bump.
But I made a couple of hundredbucks. Like yeah, that's that's it.
Yeah, but it's been it's beena while, dude, Like I
don't. No, I know alot of wrestlers that take weeks off and

(49:22):
like they're you know, I'm surelike the more I get into it,
the more I get picky. Butlike I just like being on the road
so much. I know, Iknow you love it. I know what's
your thing. Uh, I'll finishwith this kind of what's Uh. It
was this Matt cardonah guy. Uhand he has two million followers. Dude.

(49:44):
Yeah, So Matt Cardona used tobe in WE. His name was
Zach Ryder. He was in Wfor like ten years, so he used
to like he's a tag team championW. He was Interconmental Champion W.
I think he was US champion atWE. He recently got released like a
couple years ago, and he's justbeen from jail from w B no from

(50:05):
from w W. He got releasedand uh yeah, so that was spring
Break that we were at in Philly, which Spring breaks like probably the biggest
show for independent wrestling for many aweek. I've wrestled him. I wrestled
in MLW. You can find iton YouTube. Actually, uh you nim

(50:25):
had a match. But like it'sfunny, like a lot of the guys
that come out of w E.They they a lot of them don't last,
right because it's like it's not it'syou're not getting the same consistent income,
right, like like the consistency oflike being booked in w US that's
the that's the that's the head placeyou want to be at. Right.

(50:46):
So like a lot of those guysthey don't really last on the indies because
the NDIS is kind of a grindreally right, Like not not kind of
it's absolutely a grind. Yeah,And like like just I'm trying to explain
this before we get into it intoit, so like like when you do
when you do shows in w right, like you do like loops. So

(51:08):
like let's say like let's say likeyou do SmackDown and then like that that
Saturday Sunday you'll do like a liveevent like somewhere near where you went did
TV or on the indies. It'swhat I like I just said, like
I'm in I fly three different times, Like that's not a that's an irregular

(51:29):
schedule, like if you really thinkabout it, So like it's more of
a grind that way. So alot of those guys don't really last because
they're not getting the money that theygot and and so forth. But like
so when he came around, it'sfunny because he kind of like he figured
out, like, Okay, theseare the guys that are regularly doing these
places. So it's like guys likeMe, guys like Man's guys like Justice,

(51:51):
other guys like Pike, Speedball anda couple others that are like,
hey, these these are the dudesthat like do these loops. So if
I can get in here and doall these and like people are obviously going
to book book him because he's he'sin WBE for ten years, right,
and he like knows what he's talkingabout. He knows what he's doing.
So like it's funny like when westarted like being around the same loops with

(52:12):
him, it's like it was kindof funny that like all these w guys,
you know, like because there's kindof like animosity in some way.
But like we got to meet himand like talk to him and stuff,
and I have wrestled him, solike he's like he's pretty sick. So
yeah, but I mean you guysare beefing though, yeah kind of yeah,
kind of so like we've got abeef going on, and I feel

(52:34):
like I feel like you guys arebuilding up to something. Yeah. Yeah
kind of. So like he tooka liking to me a lot, and
uh, he was I'm breaking thefourth wall a little bit, going behind
the curtain, where like he waslike, hey, you know, like
let's talk some ship, like gofor it. You know, like it's

(52:58):
it's all okay if you want to, like say whatever, and that's like
your most professional thing you could do, because yeah, a lot of these
dudes will like or girls will messageyou and they'll be like they don't message
you at all and they just likeshit on you, and it's like,
ah, it doesn't work like that. Like, so we're like working in
a way. So like he's beenaround GW a lot lately. I think
he was GCW champion for for atime, so like he's he's figured out

(53:23):
a way where third party underground wrestlingto make money significantly. Yes, he's
had money for W for ten years, but like, yeah he's mac carden
in school Man, so dude, yeah, pretty sick. Yeah that's kind
of cool where like yeah, thereyou go. Me and him at MLW

(53:45):
YEP. I wrestled him in thesixth Man too. We wrestled in Phoenix,
Arizona. We did a six mantag at GCW. It was like
it was like me, me anda couple of people versus him and Stephane
Lander and Jimmy Lloyd and all thatstuff. So it was just it's just

(54:05):
cool and a lot of people don'tget it right, Like like this guy,
this guy's been all over the worldliterally like from W so like he's
seeing the who's who and knows thewho who and knows what and everything,
and like to have him come backto you and be like, Dan,
do you really good? Like keepit up? Like all that kind of
shit is kind of cool, youknow, like makes you think sick,

(54:28):
you know, like so like youknow what you're doing. So it's like
it's just a matter of if youjust keep doing it. I see it.
I see it. I'm observing fromthe from the outside. I like
what I say. Yeah, I'mlike like these and these rankings don't like
mean shit right, like they dothese things like called p WI five hundred
every year. Yeah, I've seenyou in that too, and slowly have

(54:51):
gone up and now I'm in thetop one fifty. So it's like you're
doing something right in a way.So like climbing, just trying. So
dude, I love it. Uh, we won't take up all your time,
but I'll please take it all.Dude, take it all. I
didn't know. I get No,you're good. I got the rip,
like, hey, you were fuckinglate, dude, Like no, no,

(55:15):
but I just I just want tolet I want to make sure Grant
gets a question in here too.Oh yeah, uh so what what do
you think is the biggest difference whenyou go overseas between like American crowds and
the European crowds, Like even theJapanese crowds. In America, we're spoiled,
rotten. They see so much wrestlingeverywhere, right, Like it's not

(55:37):
like Indiana and North Carolina the onlyshows this weekend. They have wrestling.
Its wrestling everywhere all over America. So like, so like the crowds are
very spoiled. Or like you goto Europe, right, you go to
Germany, Like, yeah, there'spromotions in Germany, but there's nothing like
w XW. So it's like whenthey do those weekends, it's like a
big ass weekend. It's kind oflike the collective many a week so like

(55:59):
and you're in and you're you know, you're an international wrestler, So like
those crowds are teed up. Yeah, so they don't they don't see you
a lot. So like when theydo, they're like, oh ship,
like it's a big deal. That'stheir so like it's kind of cool.
So I would say that's the differenceis like it's not like it don't see
wrestling over there, but like it'sit's just not it's just not regularly all

(56:22):
the time. They're not as saturatedwith it. Yeah, so like I
think America's oversaturated in a way,but like when you go to Japan,
right, like you could say thatfor a lot of things. Yeah,
So like I definitely think American's spoiled. And that's not a bad thing.
It's not a good thing either, but it's just what it is. And

(56:43):
then last question is do you thinkhas Kirk for seen your highlights? Like
does he know? I don't know, Like I know, Doyle is what
