After successfully reviving one legendary horror franchise and not quite managing to relaunch another, David Gordon Green needed a “bit of a palate cleanser.”
Since Halloween, his 2018 reboot of the John Carpenter slasher pic, Green has become a bit of a go-to-guy for mid-budget horror masters Blumhouse, delivering a full trilogy of new Halloweens — with Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends in 2022 — as well as last year’s The Exorcist: Believer, an unsuccessful attempt to bring back the spinning-head world of demonic possession created by William Friedkin in his 1973 classic.
But after six years of screams and jump scares, “it felt like a time to reset,” Green says. “After doing a run of horror movies, I felt like switching gears.”
What Green did next was Nutcrackers, a family-friendly comedy starring Ben Stiller as Mike, an uptight workaholic who is forced to take over guardianship of his rambunctious, newly orphaned nephews.

Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.
The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.
“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”
Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

Exclusive: Paul Zbyszewski, a two-time Emmy nominated series creator, showrunner, writer and producer, has signed with Independent Artist Group for representation.
Most recently, Zbyszewski served as showrunner and exec producer for the final season of Snowpiercer, the dystopian sci-fi series based on Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film of the same name, which was itself adapted from the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where Earth has become a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity survive aboard a perpetually moving train that circles the globe, the show ran on TNT for its first three seasons before moving to AMC and AMC+ for its final run of episodes.
Garnering his pair of Emmy nominations for his work as part of the writing and producing team on ABC’s Lost, Zbyszewski has also worked on series like Hawaii Five-0, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He created the thriller...

Glenn Close has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, and is currently going viral for her work in Lee Daniels’ exorcism flick The Deliverance, but amongst Simpsons fans, the Fatal Attraction star is perhaps best known for voicing Homer’s mom. Mona Simpson was properly introduced in Season Seven’s “Mother Simpson,” which was easily one of the show’s most tearjerkingest episodes.
As you may recall, Homer discovers that his mom isn’t dead, as he originally believed; she’s really a fugitive from the law, due to her Weather Underground-esque activism in the 1960s.
Mona inarguably fleshed the world of The Simpsons for the better, adding emotional nuance to Homer’s character, and providing Lisa with a familial role model. And Close’s touching performance is a big reason why Mona was such a welcome addition to the show.

Back in June, author Suzanne Collins announced that she was writing a new Hunger Games novel titled Sunrise on the Reaping. It's set to arrive in bookstores on March 18, 2025, and tells a story set 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Hours later, it was confirmed that a movie adaptation is also in the works and the actor who will play the young Haymitch Abernathy (a character portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original trilogy) may have now been revealed.
According to Production Weekly (via SFFGazette.com), Challengers star Mike Faist may be in line to lead the cast of Sunrise on the Reaping. Given the source, we'd advise taking this with a pinch of salt; however, the publication has been known to share plenty of accurate casting intel in the past.

1994’s “Natural Born Killers” turns 30 years old this month, and it’s still a bloody reminder of ‘90s excess—or, maybe, just excess from director Oliver Stone, who seemed to be pushing cinema to its limits in the anarchic movie. Given the anniversary, much of the cast was recently tapped to discuss the film in a recent Esquire feature. Three decades later, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Stone, and others in the movie all looked back and reflected on this controversial and incendiary film.

For years, photos have circulated of Ben Affleck looking like he’s having the worst day of his life. Much of this can likely be chalked up to the fact that photographers are invading his privacy to get a picture of him. Those close to him admit that he gets into dark moods, though. A source close to Jennifer Garner said that Affleck doesn’t seem to understand how these moods impact those around him.
Ben Affleck is often in a bad mood, said a source
Now that Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage has ended, details about the couple’s dynamic have begun to trickle out. According to Lopez’s friends, she “did spend a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed” (per People).
The source went on to say that Lopez wanted to change the way Affleck interacted with the world, as she was “grateful for everything.

Oliver Stone said filming Natural Born Killers definitely had its challenges and Robert Downey Jr. didn’t make it any easier.
Thirty years after the release of the 1994 crime romance, the Oscar-winning filmmaker looked back at the film for a recent oral history by Esquire. This included Downey’s improvisation in a scene, where his character dips the front tails of his white shirt in fake blood and pulls it through his pants zipper to simulate a bloody penis.
“Oh come on—that’s too much! You’re going too far, Robert,” Stone recalled yelling at the actor for the crude moment. “You’re ruining my movie! Forget the dumb dick idea. … This isn’t some slapstick bullshit.”
However, the director later reversed course, telling the Oppenheimer star, “Wait, wait—wait a second. Let me see the dick thing again.” Downey complied with the orders before Stone added, “Pull it back a half inch.

Robert Downey Jr. has the power to steal any scene he wants. Just take one look at his surprise Sdcc appearance this summer and you get an idea of what we mean. But this is nothing new, and one of the best examples of this is 1994’s Natural Born Killers, in which he played Wayne Gale, the personification of exploiting criminals to the point of cult status. It’s undoubtedly one of the standout performances in Natural Born Killers (although I would pick Rodney Dangerfield’s as the most memorable), but according to Oliver Stone, he almost ruined the entire film.
By most accounts, Downey Jr. was rarely sober on the set of Natural Born Killers, but on one particular day, he happened to be completely straight. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t get out of control to the point of pissing off his director. In one instance,...

After 30 years, Oliver Stone knows when to admit he was wrong.
The Academy Award-winning writer and director recently reminisced about working with a 27-year-old Robert Downey Jr., who was admittedly under the influence during the majority of filming, on the 1994 crime romance Natural Born Killers.
Stone recalled directing the actor in the final scene for a recent oral history by Esquire, revealing it was Downey’s idea to dip the front tails of his white shirt in fake blood and pull it through his pants zipper. “Oh come on—that’s too much! You’re going too far, Robert,” he told Downey of the bloody innuendo.
“You’re ruining my movie! Forget the dumb dick idea. This isn’t… This isn’t some slapstick bull—,” added Stone.
Downey, who happened to be sober on this day of filming, relented and pulled his shirt back through the zipper. “Wait, wait—wait a second.

Jennifer Lopez and her sisters were all talented, but she was the only one to make it in show business. Her father said that this was because Lopez possessed a level of drive that few people did. Her younger sister said Lopez became a success because she was good at everything she did. She said it was a nearly infuriating quality.
Jennifer Lopez’s sister said she was so good at everything that it was almost annoying
According to Lopez’s father, David, she was good at many of the hobbies she picked up as a child. Even when it didn’t seem like she would take to something, she did.
“I recall asking why she was going out for track,” David told Rolling Stone. “I thought she’d get outclassed, because she’d never done anything like that. If she starts something, all that happens is she gets better.

Early in Jennifer Lopez’s career, she worked to adjust to her newfound fame. She said she found it uncomfortable to see people discussing her personal life, and she particularly disliked seeing people critique her work. She said she paid close attention to journalists who wrote negative reviews about her.

When Lopez became a bigger celebrity, she grew accustomed to seeing her name in the press. Just because she was used to it didn’t mean it was easy on her, though. She said she kept track of journalists who wrote negatively about her.

Matthew McConaughey collaborated with Woody Harrelson for the hit HBO anthology series True Detective. Although they both enjoyed their time on the show, they have vastly different opinions about reprising their roles.
Woody Harrelson wouldn’t want to tarnish his ‘True Detective’ legacy Woody Harrelson | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Harrelson returned to the world of television when he played detective Martin Hart in True Detective. But doing a television show was somewhat unfamiliar territory for McConaughey. Still, the movie star was drawn to True Detective because of its script. Additionally, television was in the midst of a golden age with shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad rivaling and perhaps surpassing cinema. This made the notion of doing a television series only more appealing McConaughey.
At first, McConaughey was tapped to play Martin Hart. But he grew too attached to detective Rust Cohle, who was Hart’s introspective but solemn partner.

[This story contains spoilers from True Detective: Night Country.]
Kali Reis and the rest of the Night Country brain trust faced a tall order as the new stewards of the True Detective franchise.
Reis, alongside showrunner Issa López and two-time Oscar-winning co-star Jodie Foster, opted to chart a new course for HBO’s well-regarded crime anthology in the wake of series creator Nic Pizzolatto’s departure after three seasons and five Emmys.
Oceana, the world’s largest international advocacy organization focused on ocean conservation, held its annual SeaChange Summer Party on Saturday.
The Laguna Beach party, hosted this year by Ted Danson, raised $1.5 million for campaigns to protect and restore the oceans in California and around the world. “We’ve been doing it for 17 years, and we’ve raised over $20 million just from that area alone,” Danson told THR.
“They are such a dedicated, supportive, generous audience down there, it’s one of our favorite events,” the actor said, adding that the organization is “usually able to get Hollywood to come down” for the fundraiser.
This year’s event, which honored longtime supporter and SeaChange co-founder Valarie Van Cleave, included an address from the organization’s new CEO Jim Simon. Singer Lisa Loeb also performed a private concert for attendees. The party had a slew of celebrity guests alongside Danson, including Diane Lane,...

With big dreams in her eyes, Jennifer Lopez made her first leap into the entertainment world in 1989 and eventually snagged her debut acting role five years later, in 1994 (South Central). But as with any rookie, the actress had her fair share of wobbles and butterflies in Tinseltown.

Jennifer Lopez has gotten along well with many of her co-stars over the years, but she said there was one actor she just didn’t like. When Lopez worked on the 1995 film Money Train, she said both Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes flirted with her. While she brushed off Harrelson’s advances, she said Snipes was more demanding. She did not appreciate the way he treated her.
Jennifer Lopez found 1 of her co-stars very unpleasant to work with
In 1995, Lopez starred in Money Train with Snipes. She had a boyfriend at the time, but she said he still pursued her relentlessly.
“Wesley — even though I had a boyfriend at the time — went full court press,” she told Movieline in 1998. “He was flirting with me — you always flirt with your costars, it’s harmless — then he just started getting a little more serious. He would invite us all out together and...

“Fly Me to the Moon” is a movie directed by Greg Berlanti starring Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum and Woody Harrelson.
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, a period defined by the fierce competition between Russia and the United States to be the first to land a man on the moon, “Fly Me to the Moon” introduces us to a different kind of race. While the world was captivated by the technological rivalry that culminated in the Apollo 11 mission, a parallel contest of marketing and advertising prowess was unfolding, each side vying to capture the public’s imagination.
However, “Fly Me to the Moon” does not recount the tale of the Apollo 11 mission itself. Instead, it focuses on an extraordinary woman who transformed this historical event into a media sensation through her expertise in advertising and marketing. Her arsenal of persuasive tactics succeeded in amplifying the mission’s significance, extending...

The first-ever “Star Wars” movie, “A New Hope,” won six Academy Awards in 1978 including Best Editing and Best Original Score while George Lucas was nominated for Best Director. The biggest accomplishment, however, is arguably that Alec Guinness reaped a Best Supporting Actor citation for his turn as Obi-Wan Kenobi. That is the sole acting nomination “Star Wars” movies have earned at the Oscars.
The movies, in total, have won seven Oscars from a total of 37 nominations, but it is only Guinness who has been recognized for his acting across a total of 11 live-action “Star Wars” flicks, which includes all nine films in the main Skywalker Saga plus the spin-off films “Rogue One” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” However, plenty of the franchise’s cast have landed nominations for other projects at other major awards groups.
Given that it’s Emmys season, we’re going to focus on the Emmys.

Matt Bomer has deemed his new Hulu sitcom, Mid-Century Modern, the “spiritual cousin” to The Golden Girls. Initially branded a reboot of the hit eighties series that ran for seven seasons, Matt is clearing up the misconceptions. So, what will differentiate his show yet what are the similarities that cannot be ignored? Keep reading for more details.
Matt Bomer’s New Hulu Sitcom ‘Spiritual Cousin’ Of The Golden Girls
Despite having gone off the air over thirty years ago, The Golden Girls is an iconic sitcom that still lives on today. There are pop-ups, endless merchandise, marathons, cosplay, and so much more. The four ladies live on because they are quirky, spunky, relatable, and have so much sass. For years, diehard fans have hoped that maybe the show would get a second life. In some way, Sex and the City did that with younger women but it was not quite the same.

“John Ratzenberger Bought a Boat” turned into the most psychedelic episode of Cheers ever. Unfortunately, the cameras weren’t rolling to turn it into a night of must-see TV.
Woody Harrelson and Ted Danson got to reminiscing with George Wendt on this week’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast. The guys remembered a particular episode of Cheers that was “very female-heavy,” meaning a Diane storyline gave the men fewer lines than usual. “John had just bought a boat and he was anxious to show it off,” Wendt remembered. “So we cooked up this little getaway.”
By the time they got to the dock, explained Danson, “Woody and I were already stoned.” But not too stoned to get on a pay phone to call into work with made-up excuses for skipping out. Danson told his Cheers bosses, “I’m not feeling too good,” then handed the phone to his co-stars...

On Tuesday, Hulu announced they greenlit the new Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Linda Lavin, and Nathan Lee Graham comedy Mid-Century Modern. It is from the creators of Will And Grace, David Kohan and Max Miutchnick, as well as Ryan Murphy. This is directed by the prestigious director James Burrows.
This series is about three best pals portrayed by Lane, Bomer, and Graham. After an unexpected death, the three gay gentlemen want to spend their golden years in Palm Springs. This is where Lane’s character Bunny Schneiderman lives with his mom, Sybil, and they have some bucks. This is a chosen family who will have quirks and plenty of opportunities for fun.
To many, this is vaguely familiar to The Golden Girls. Matt Bomer says this new comedy is a “spiritual cousin” to the classic series. What else did he have to share?

Laura Dern may now have an Oscar, an Emmy, a BAFTA, and multiple Golden Globes, she may have even benefited from nepotism as the child of actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, but as a fresh-faced 17 year-old student at UCLA, she was largely treated like everyone else. At least for as long as she actually got to attend the school. In a recent interview with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on their podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” Dern lamented over her experience being asked to leave the prestigious university after getting cast in David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet.”
“I was 17, so excited to get into UCLA,” Dern said. “I was there for two days, and I had auditioned and got offered the role in ‘Blue Velvet.’ I was ecstatic, I worshipped David Lynch, as people really were from ‘Elephant Man,’ ‘Eraserhead,’ which he’d made at this point.”

The trailer just dropped for Mr. Throwback, a new mockumentary series starring Happy Endings’ Adam Pally, Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim and… The Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry?
Produced by David Wain, Mr. Throwback actually looks pretty funny for a show starring an NBA point guard in a prominent role. Come to think of it, there have been more than a few solid comedies featuring pro basketball players, such as…
5 Marques Johnson in ‘White Men Can’t Jump’
When we think of White Men Can’t Jump, we tend to think of Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, and of course, Jeopardy! champion Rosie Perez.
But it also features former NBA player Marques Johnson as Raymond, an aggrieved victim of Billy and Syd’s hustle. Johnson later revealed that the character was based on real-life basketball player Reggie Harding, who died tragically in 1972.

If Deadpool & Wolverine screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a superpower, it’s not sweating rejection.
When scores of stars turned down an offer to cameo in Zombieland, the studio was ready to give up, but Wernick insisted on a Hail Mary, and they asked star Woody Harrelson to dive into his rolodex for one more name. Two days later, Bill Murray was on set playing a zombie-fied version of himself in the movie’s most memorable sequence.
And as has been well documented, the duo — along with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller — overcame six years of hearing the word “no” to make that movie a genre-redefining reality.
What is less known is that Reese and Wernick themselves were actually rebuffed when they initially pitched their take to Reynolds and 20th Century Fox in the fall of 2009. The pair, hot off the success of Zombieland,...
