Why is the Joker so beloved? It's a question worth pondering, primarily because the character's worship seems baffling on paper. Sure, it makes sense why he's popular; he's one of the all-time great villains, and a hero like Batman is only as good as their villain. Yet the Joker's status as an icon has grown beyond his function as a foil to the Dark Knight. The hysteria surrounding the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the character in "The Dark Knight" was totally explicable given Ledger's James Dean-esque tragic mystique, yet Joker mania has only increased since that film. The character is on the same level as other fictional villains like Walter White, Michael Corleone, and Freddy Krueger. In terms of morality, none of these characters should be revered, yet they are.
There is an easy answer to this question, of course: such despicable villains have always drawn the...

The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 14 is over, but some cast members have continued the drama off-screen in the weeks since it ended.
It isn’t news that the current cast is awaiting word on whether they will be asked back for Rhonj Season 15 because executives are finally taking a stand to salvage the series.
One person who probably won’t be asked back is Luis Ruelas, the husband of Teresa Giudice, who could dash any hope of the original housewife making a comeback next season.
Luis caught a lot of heat for wishing harm on Margaret Josephs’s family during the season finale and went on to apologize for it.
However, Luis seemingly had a new message for his enemies when he allegedly shared a meme on his Instagram story that wished harm to his enemies.

Joker: Folie à Deux is the next big thing in director Todd Phillips’ release list and the world is excited. Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his iconic role of Arthur Fleck and will be joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie.

However, there have been numerous iterations of the Joker and most would agree that Heath Ledger’s portrayal remains undefeated. Well, some fans are concerned about Joker: Folie à Deux since there doesn’t seem to be a master criminal plan in action.
Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Isn’t a Mastermind Criminal?
Although it would come as a shock to several people, Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck is in fact, not a mastermind criminal. The character is somewhat different from Heath Ledger’s Joker, who robs a bank and burns the money for fun.

Tom Cruise, the generational movie star of the postmodern Hollywood era, has been stuck in his good guy reputation for far too long. Unlike some characters who were born to play the hero or the archnemesis, Cruise toes the line between the two just as he keeps his audience increasingly fascinated with an over-the-top show of what he is actually capable of.

In a world where Homelander is a clear villain because he dares to spill blood to preserve the sanctity of his own beliefs, Tom Cruise is a clear hero because he dares to risk his own neck to protect the sanctity of the theatrical experience. And although the comparison may be too far-reaching, the point stands that Cruise is only a modern-day hero whose sole mission in life is to leave behind a legacy that is unparalleled and unquestionable in its own right.

I’m somewhat bewildered over how outraged people have been over the new version of The Crow (don’t call it a remake!). Many are calling it a stain on the legacy of the late, great Brandon Lee, who infamously was killed in an on-set tragedy, but by examining the franchise as a whole, it’s clear that as far as these things go, the franchise has been exploited to death. There have been no less than five Crow movies at this point, and guess what? We’re going to rank them all! That said, as far as our Crow movies ranked list goes, they’re all varying degrees of bad outside the first movie and the new version, which isn’t half bad.

The Joker has become a character in popular culture and every actor involved in his crafting for any adaptation has brought something unique to its performance. Be it Jack Nicleson’s gangster, Ceaser Romero’s clown, Heath Ledger’s terrorist, or Joaquin Phenoix’s lonely man, there have been few stand-out scenes that have defined the character’s live-action presence.

While Heath Ledger’s Joker is considered to be one of the best versions of the character in live-action, Cameron Monaghan has come close to rivaling what the former was able to do with the character. While Monaghan’s performance can be considered as more of an extroverted take on Ledger’s Joker, there is one scene from Gotham that might have cemented him as the next great Joker actor in Hollywood.

Megalopolis’ fake critic quotes are nothing new – Columbia Pictures invented a whole movie reviewer in the early 2000s.
Here’s an odd story from the turn of the century, when the Sony-owned Columbia Pictures decided it needed a bit more control over what critics were saying. More to the point, more control over what poster quotes the studio gleaned from said critics.
Currently, there’s an odd story about seemingly-invented quotes for a selection of Francis Ford Coppola films, attributed to some well-known film critics, in the now-deleted trailer for his upcoming opus, Megalopolis. That’s a film whose name doesn’t get easier to type over time, incidentally.
Yet back in the early 2000s, Columbia Pictures didn’t just make up poster quotes, it made up an entire film critic. A man by the name of David Manning, who seemed to be rather keen, wouldn’t you know,...

Phillips, known for his comedic movies and obscene situations in films, found worldwide fame when he directed the 2009 film The Hangover. Turning it into a franchise, Phillips worked on The Hangover Part II and Part III.

Don’t you hate the awkward silence that happens when someone has been recast as your favorite movie character?
No explanation. No plot twist is given in which your character returns to save the day and thwarts the impostor.
Instead, you just have to deal with it and accept New Guy Here as the recast hero.
(Warner Bros./Screenshot)
Sometimes, the awkward silence is unbearable, and you hate the rest of the movie because of this terrible choice of recasting.
But sometimes, they get it right, and we’re all forced to begrudgingly agree that this new interpretation of our favorite character was brilliant.
Not all 11 performances were brilliant. However, when the recasting was first announced, each one divided moviegoers. Let’s consider each one and whether the recast was a Win or Fail.

Incoming is full of shit — well, one scene is, anyway. The high school comedy, which starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, concerns some uncool male buddies starting their freshman year and trying to navigate the first blowout party of their young lives. In one sequence, a couple of the friends, through some crazy circumstances, end up driving their school’s most gorgeous girl home. She’s really drunk, though, and, well, let’s just say an impromptu trip to Taco Bell turns out not to be a good idea at all. The result is one of the most revolting gross-out scenes in modern comedy. It’s a moment that the writer-director brothers Dave and John Chernin have had in their back pocket, waiting for the right opportunity.
“Man, that was an idea that we’ve had for a long time,” Dave, 39, says over Zoom, laughing. “We didn’t quite know...

The Joker has had multiple live-action appearances in films, with the best performance coming from Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. However, there’s a version of Joker that’s not much discussed like Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix or even Jared Leto. Cameron Monaghan gave us a convincing adaptation of the Batman villain in the Fox series Gotham.

Monaghan, who is known for his role as Ian Gallagher in Shameless, was roped in to play the twins Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in the series. Jerome is a serial killer who has an unhealthy obsession with Bruce Wayne, but it is Jeremiah who eventually becomes thematically representative of the Joker.

Christian Bale followed in the footsteps of many actors before him who played a live action Batman. But there were certain differences with his own take on the character that perhaps made his Batman a bit easier to play.
Christian Bale once shared what made his Batman different from the others Christian Bale | Mike Marsland/WireImage
Bale might’ve done more physical work to fill in his Batsuit than his predecessors. Unlike Michael Keaton and George Clooney before him, Bale had to gain significant weight and muscle to honor his character. But because of the weight loss he experienced in The Machinist, Batman Begins director Christopher Nolan was concerned. Nolan wasn’t as confident as Bale was that he could’ve packed on enough muscle in time.

Editor’s Note: T.J. Newman is the New York Times bestselling author of Falling, and Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 1421. Both were named Best Books of the Year by Amazon and each is moving forward as a movie at Universal and Warner Bros, respectively. Her new novel Worst Case Scenario is on sale now. Perhaps not surprisingly given her first novel was scribbled on cocktail napkins while she served as a flight attendant, Newman’s female empowerment column has as much a dream-big feel as her first column for Deadline, “An Open Letter to Dreamers.“

The 2023 Academy Awards may go down in history as one of the most shocking instances, due to several unexpected curveballs. The biggest snub in recent years is Stephanie Hsu’s loss to Jamie Lee Curtis for the category of Best Supporting Actress.

Putting together best-of lists is both a pleasure and a pain — you are always going to “leave something out” or “forget about” one of the all-time greats, and even if you’re able to cull through every possible iteration and entry, ranking and rating the merit of anything in any artistic realm is bound to draw dissent. And, yes, we just keep doing it.
This summer, we’re all about the aughts. And what a time for on-screen performances, the kind that belong not only on this list, but any list of best-to-ever-do-it. In the early 2000s, we saw all manner of breakthroughs on the big screen, be it Javier Bardem burrowing into our collective nightmares or Adam Sandler continuing to proof his salt as a full-stop Great Dramatic Actor. Heath Ledger became our most chilling supervillain.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight had a score that was addictive as well as haunting for fans. The Joker theme stood out in the film and the legendary Hans Zimmer was predominantly behind the score. Zimmer worked alongside James Newton Howard in the film but their work in the film was mostly split. While Zimmer worked on the Joker theme, Howard was tasked with the score for Harvey Dent’s arc.

Nolan was presented with a plethora of options because Zimmer was on a quest to come up with a score that defined the psychopathic character. Some of the most soulful musical renditions in cinema were born out of the collaboration between the duo of Nolan and Zimmer, working together on six films.

The Boys Season 4 has recently concluded, receiving stellar reviews and achieving record viewership for its final episode, according to Amazon. Despite being a superhero series, the show has largely avoided the issue of superhero fatigue, thanks to its unique approach and thematic differences within the genre.
Antony Starr, whose portrayal of Homelander has drawn comparisons to Heath Ledger’s Joker, has recently shared his thoughts on superhero fatigue, aligning himself with other prominent figures in the industry.
Superhero fatigue is often associated with the MCU, whose recent projects, aside from Deadpool & Wolverine, have received mixed to negative reviews in recent years. The theory suggests that audiences are weary of the oversaturation of superhero media, exacerbated by repetitive plotlines, character arcs, and tropes. Proponents argue that it’s not necessarily poor writing or execution, but rather a general fatigue with the genre.

‘The Boys’ Season 4 recently finished airing, and so far the reactions have been amazing with Amazon publishing record viewership for the final episode. Being a superhero series itself, the show managed to be somewhat immune to the phenomenon of ‘superhero fatigue.” Mostly due to its vastly different take on the whole genre and its themes.
Antony Starr, the star of the show whose portrayal of Homelander has been praised and compared to Heath Ledger’s Joker, recently commented on superhero fatigue and joined other influential names in the industry.
Superhero fatigue is most often connected to MCU, whose projects, with the exception of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ were met with mixed-to-negative reviews in the last few years. Christopher Nolan’s Brother Once Revealed How The Dark Knight Maker Was Adamant About Casting Heath Ledger As The Joker (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Heath Ledger as Joker will always be iconic, and it is too bad the actor did not live long enough to see what he has done and the impact he left on others. It was possible only because Christopher Nolan did not give in to the fans’ demands and stood his ground to cast him in the role despite facing backlash from the fan community. Jonathan Nolan once opened up about it in an old interview. Scroll below to get the deets.
For the unversed, Jonathan, Christopher Nolan’s brother, was also a screenwriter on the Christian Bale-led sequel that came out in 2008. Although Heath passed away before the release of Nolan’s movie, his portrayal of Joker is said to be one of the greatest...

In the vast landscape of Hollywood, few have left an impact on the ever-changing nature of the film industry like Heath Ledger. The brilliant actor left the world in 2008, just months before the world could witness the best performance of his life: Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Still hailed as one of the best Joker portrayals of all time, the actor continues to be remembered for his talents, wits, and performances even after all this time.

Heath Ledger was one of the greatest actors of his generation. Recently, his daughter made a rare public appearance out and about in New York City, and it got a lot of people talking. So, what’s the latest on this situation?
Heath Ledger Was One Of The Greatest Actors Of His Generation
When it comes to Hollywood, there are a handful of actors who were generational talents. What makes this worse is the fact that a lot of these actors had their careers cut short due to tragedy. In many cases, this happens just as they are cementing themselves in a big way.
Heath Ledger was precisely one of these talents. The actor from Australia made a splash with American audiences in romantic comedies and more, including a notable starring role in 10 Things I Hate About You in 1999 that really put him on the map.

Hugh Jackman returned to his storied role as Logan Aka Wolverine for Deadpool’s debut in the MCU, the massive hit “Deadpool and Wolverine.”
Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool has been a team-up fans have anticipated for well over a year now since the project was announced. And, it’s safe to say, the end result has not disappointed. “Deadpool and Wolverine” is a wildly fun ride with mind-blowing cameos (no spoilers here), a healthy dose of the wonderful Matthew Macfadyen, and a killer soundtrack. But the draw is obviously Deadpool and Wolvy on screen together. Reynolds delivers the laugh-out comedy with his off-kilter Deadpool-isms while Jackman plays Wolverine pretty straight-faced, gruffing and growling his way through a redemption arc that actually packs a punch full of emotion.
As a result, Reynolds and Jackman are a match made in heaven while Jackman is the heart and soul of the movie.

Tobey Maguire was announced as the leading man of Spider-Man 24 years ago today. Maguire did not have an easy path to achieving his superhero role, but he went the extra mile to convince the producers that he was their guy. Sam Raimi had already seen his performance in the film, The Cider House Rules. He rooted for Maguire and when he landed the role, Raimi was excited.

The Boys’ Erin Moriarty Dissects Her Performer of the Week Episode, Reveals Heath Ledger Inspiration
The Boys star Erin Moriarty looked to a surprising source of inspiration for her performance as a shapeshifter masquerading as Annie in the show’s Season 4 finale.
“I watched Heath Ledger in [The Dark Knight]. So brilliant, and he was only 27 or 26 when he shot that, which is even more insane to me. But I needed to, literally, watch people transcend their physicality [to] know I could do it,” Moriarty tells TVLine’s Keisha Hatchett at San Diego Comic-Con.

Christopher Nolan Once Reportedly Gave Christian Bale The F-Word For Trying To Enter His Editing Room(Photo Credit – Instagram)
Christopher Nolan is a hard taskmaster who allegedly does not allow cellphones on the set or too many bathroom breaks. Once, Anne Hathaway claimed that he does not allow chairs. He has given the world some outstanding movies, and one has to pay some price to achieve that. The director is very particular about his work, and Christian Bale once understood that very well. Bale and Nolan worked on The Dark Knight trilogy and The Prestige.
The filmmaker reportedly had a rule that no one was allowed to enter the editing room. But Bale once broke that rule and tried to enter. The Oppenheimer director was reportedly offended by his action and gave him a subtle warning, but the Batman actor mentioned that Nolan was ‘polite’ about it. Keep scrolling for the deets.

Joker: Folie À Deux Director Reveals Why Arthur Fleck Will Never Be Gotham's "Clown Prince Of Crime"
We never expected Joker to get a sequel, but if you're heading into Joker: Folie À Deux expecting to see Arthur Fleck transform into Gotham City's Clown Prince of Crime, you may be disappointed.
The iconic Batman villain has been portrayed vastly differently on screen over the years, whether it was Heath Ledger's domestic terrorist or Jared Leto's...well, whatever that was.
Talking to Empire about Arthur's continued evolution - he is, after all, about to meet "Lee" Quinzel - filmmaker Todd Phillips said, "We would never [make him the Clown Prince of Crime]. Because Arthur clearly is not a criminal mastermind. He was never that."
"Arthur has become this symbol to people," he adds. "This unwilling, unwitting symbol now paying for the crimes of the first film, but at the same time finding the only thing he ever wanted, which was love. That’s always what he’s been about, even though he’s...

There have been all kinds of iterations of the Joker over the years. Some veered more towards the exaggerated mobster route, like Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s Batman; there was Heath Ledger’s nihilistic terrorist in The Dark Knight; Jared Leto’s eccentric tattooed gang leader in Suicide Squad. But in Joker, Joaquin Phoenix gave us a totally different conception of who Batman’s arch-nemesis might be – a lonely, disenfranchised failed comedian whose inner turmoil spills over into violent acts that bring out the darkness festering in Gotham City. In Todd Phillips’ film, Arthur Fleck wasn’t a villain, let alone a maniacal schemer – more a mercurial, unpredictable force moving through the world in his own unique way.
And so, in Joker: Folie À Deux – the much-anticipated sort-of-sequel that sends Fleck to Arkham, where he’ll strike up a music-fuelled relationship with Lady Gaga’s Harley ‘Lee’ Quinzel – we...

How many roads must the Lisan al-Gaib (sand)walk down, before you can call him a man? The answer, my friend, is in the trailer for A Complete Unknown – the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic from James Mangold, starring none other than Timothée Chalamet as the legendary folk artist. This is a film that’s been brewing in Hollywood for many years now, and after hanging up the Indiana Jones whip post-Dial Of Destiny, Mangold has finally made it happen – his first music biopic since his excellent Johnny Cash film, Walk The Line. This first teaser doesn’t show a huge amount, but unveils Chalamet’s take on Dylan, shows off lots of ‘60s New York, and also features Chalamet singing ‘A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall’. The story of Henry Cavill is simultaneously one of the nicest as well as upsetting to ever exist in Hollywood. The actor has been blessed just as much as he has been cursed, and not just in terms of his career or looks. Cavill’s entire existence is a massive black hole of paradox and it is a wonder how he continues to be adored on such a level by the fans.

Despite getting his big break almost immediately after stepping into the film and television industry, it wasn’t until Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel that he became an A-list global phenomenon. Demands from studios skyrocketed overnight and yet, the moderately humble actor stayed on track, only taking on roles that he could do right by.

From the vast world of television shows, we, as in those of us who get way too invested in stories about the people we see on our screens, have watched and re-watched and binged on numerous shows over the years. In trying to escape our realities and to get ourselves involved in the fantasy of these shows and the characters, television has always been a medium people are drawn to.

The Brits though, don’t necessarily like most American shows that come up. Or maybe it’s just a notion we haven’t been able to escape just yet. Whether it’s coz the US went and remade The Office or something else entirely, they have been the most difficult bunch to impress. “A Knight’s Tale” is set to be turned into a musical, with the theatrical show set to debut in Manchester, U.K. next year.
The 2001 movie, which starred Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell, continues to endure. It stars Ledger as a peasant who passes himself off as a nobleman and takes the world of jousting by storm. But Count Adhemar (Sewell), the bad boy of jousting, isn’t ready to hand over his crown, leading to a fierce rivalry.
It was written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Columbia Pictures.
Helgeland recently revealed he had attempted to make a sequel to the film following the teenage daughter of Ledger’s character, with Sony and Netflix potentially interested before ultimately turning it down.
The film has now been adapted for the stage by Runaway Entertainment (“101 Dalmatians the Musical”) and will open on April 11, 2025 for a limited run.
