Suits is one of the best and most popular legal dramas that managed to make the profession of lawyer cool again. Created by Aaron Korsh, the USA Network series follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who has a photographic memory and joins Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) at a prestigious law firm. The only problem with that is Mike didn’t actually go to law school and he doesn’t have a degree about which he has to lie to everyone. Suits ran for 9 brilliant seasons and ended its run in 2019. Alexander Payne isn’t holding a grudge against “The Holdovers” script allegations, but the writer/director is admitting just how “stupid” he thought the perceived scandal was.
On the eve of the 2024 Oscars, Disney’s “Luca” co-screenwriter Simon Stephenson publicly accused Payne and “The Holdovers” screenwriter David Hemingson of plagiarizing the script from his 2013 Black List screenplay “Frisco.”
Now, Payne told Deadline while at the Sarajevo Film Festival what he really thought of the media coverage at the time.
“It was the stupidest thing in the world,” Payne said when asked about the Variety report. “It was irresponsible of Variety to report on that without having read the scripts and comparing them themselves. Do you think The New York Times would have done that?”
At the time, Variety cited emails that suggested Payne did read Stephenson’s script or was at least aware of it when he decided to pass...

To borrow a phrase from Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) in "Jurassic Park" -- Now, eventually, you might have Beetlejuice in your "Beetlejuice" movie, right? It takes a while for Michael Keaton's "Ghost With the Most" to properly show up in Tim Burton's classic 1988 supernatural comedy, and even after that, he's only onscreen for a little over 17 minutes. In fact, Beetlejuice is mostly irrelevant to the plot, much of which centers around the lovable, recently-deceased Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) trying and failing to scare the off-putting, still-breathing Deetzes from their home. It's only in the third act that Beetlejuice fully evolves into the film's antagonist, giving the two families a common enemy to unite against.
Nearly 40 years years later, you might think that Burton's long-in-the-making sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- a movie that Burton himself has credited for rekindling his passion for filmmaking -- would change things,...

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. Here we go:
Title
Johnson got the title Knives Out from a Radiohead song. When it came time to make the sequel Glass Onion, he got the title from a song by The Beatles. So it’s only fitting that the third film in the franchise have a song-inspired title as well. But while Radiohead and The Beatles were from England,...

Bringing iconic comic book villains to life is a tricky balancing act for filmmakers. They need to stay true to the character while also finding the right mix between exaggeration and realism. In this context, both The Amazing Spider-Man and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter offer their take on the menacing villain Rhino. But it seems like Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s movie might be onto something groundbreaking.

The latest trailer for Kraven the Hunter features a long-awaited character from the Spider-Man mythos. No, not Spider-Man. Of course it’s not Spider-Man. Kraven is the latest in latest in Sony‘s attempts to build a cinematic universe based on Spider-Man characters, but without using Spider-Man.
No, the newest character is Aleksei Sytsevich, better known as the Rhino. We’ve seen clips of Aleksei in his civilian form, played by Alessandro Nivola. But this latest trailer is the first time he’s appeared in his Rhino form and it is… different.

Beware, "Deadpool & Wolverine," another R-rated Marvel movie is coming for your box office crown. With Dr. Michael Morbius and Cassandra Webb failing to become household names, Eddie Brock preparing to retire, and the rumored "Spider-Man 4" starring Tom Holland still out in the wind, it's up to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Sergei Kravinoff to salvage the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The actor's "Kraven the Hunter" film has gone through multiple release date changes, the most recent of which saw it pushed to mid-December -- because I dunno about you, but when I think of the winter holidays, I think of the guy from "Kick-Ass" biting off people's noses and spitting them out, as Taylor-Johnson does in the first "Kraven" trailer.

The Holdovers breakout lead Dominic Sessa is reportedly in negotiations to star in an Anthony Bourdain biopic.
If you’ve ever had the opportunity to listen to the late Anthony Bourdain talk about food, and more specifically, the way his life was connected to food (ever since his first oyster as a young boy) there’s something undeniably cinematic about it. From the tough kitchens he worked in when he started out to the immense pressure he faced as he rose to the very top.
It’s a fascinating setup that we’ve seen used across media, from reality TV shows like Hell’s Kitchen or an endless assortment of Netflix shows to dramas like The Bear... but it’s something that cinema has sometimes struggled with. In recent years we’ve seen some excellent examples in the genre such as Boiling Point and The Menu.

The “Holdovers” breakout Dominic Sessa is in talks to play the late Anthony Bourdain in A24’s upcoming biopic, “Tony,” according to media reports.

Here’s a project we have no reservations about. A24 is rumored to be in talks to acquire the rights to “Tony,” a biopic about the life of celebrity chef and documentarian Anthony Bourdain, multiple sources have confirmed to IndieWire.
Dominic Sessa, the breakout star of last year’s “The Holdovers” from Alexander Payne, is also in talks to star as Bourdain in the film. Matt Johnson, who directed “Blackberry,” is in talks to direct the film based on a screenplay by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe.
Sources say that no deals are in place just yet. A24 had no comment.

He hosted several popular shows that explored culture and cuisine around the world, including Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the Travel Channel and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown on CNN. Sadly, he committed suicide in 2018.

I love me some damn dirty apes, and I’m not alone. Ever since the first Planet of the Apes movie in 1968, it’s been one of Hollywood’s most consistent (on a quality level) franchises. Think about it. Has there ever really been a lousy Planet of the Apes movie? Not really. Yet, it’s often unheralded when we talk about the great franchises. So, let’s look at the series as a whole, with this Planet of the Apes movies ranked list (from worst to best). And don’t worry – you’ll get to have your say tomorrow with a poll I’ll be publishing, so check back for that.

Film directors acting in the films they make is neither rare nor new. Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton were doing it during the silent era, and as more artists like Orson Wells, Ida Lupino, John Cassavetes, and now Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper got into the act (literally), it's hardly surprising for audiences to see a movie written by, directed by, and starring the same person.
However, there also exists the parallel concept of the director's cameo, which is distinguished from the acting directors because the concept of a cameo itself is an elastic idea — ranging from a brief, non-verbal appearance to an entire supporting role. Unlike a filmmaker playing the lead or a co-lead in their own feature, a director making a cameo appearance in their own film tends to have a meta aspect to it: they know you know who they are, so their appearance in and of...

Few directors inspire more ire than M. Night Shyamalan. Famed for his twists and turns, Shyamalan’s meteoric rise can only be matched by his shocking fall. There was a moment when he was framed as the next Steven Spielberg. Unfortunately, a string of poor movies left many unwilling to engage with his future hits. Whether he’s inconsistent or very particular, Shyamalan has survived in Hollywood, with Trap becoming movie number 16 in his storied career. We’re ranking his movies with Trap‘s release, and helping put your expectations in check.

One of the most frustrating blockbusters of the last thirty years, Shyamalan proved the wrong choice from the jump. He tried to put his stamp on the series, and failed in pretty much every way. Shawn Levy has long chafed at the labels Hollywood has placed upon him.
That helps explain the evolution of the Montreal-born filmmaker from go-to family comedy guy (Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen) to the producer of cerebral Oscar winners (Arrival) and cultural behemoths (Stranger Things).
After a string of successes in the aughts, Levy branched out with the 2011 Amblin-esque feature Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million globally and showed he could bring his trademark emotionality to the action sphere. It also teamed him with Hugh Jackman, who, like others who have worked with the producer-director, says he creates an empathetic environment on set. “There isn’t one scene that necessarily was ‘the moment we clicked,’ ” Jackman recalls. “It was more a feeling on Real Steel that it made me know this was going to be a lifelong friendship.”
