Fans of the Harry Potter franchise have long debated the merits of the films versus J.K. Rowling’s original novels, particularly when it comes to the epic showdown between Harry and Lord Voldemort. One point of contention that has sparked particularly fervent discussions among the fandom is the final battle’s portrayal.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 | image: Warner Bros.
But apart from that, Potterheads have argued how Deathly Hallows-Part 2 streamlined J.K. Rowling’s complex and nuanced message about how evil became the death of itself, into a more conventional good-versus-evil narrative. Considering fans’ dissatisfaction with this aspect, there seems to be a great opportunity lying ahead for the potential Harry Potter TV series to rectify this grave mistake.

Game of Thrones has put its audience in several uncomfortable positions over the years. From killing off favorite characters to forcing them to sit by and watch disgusting things happen to people who don’t deserve it, and the relationship between Jaime and Cersei. However, when two of their beloved characters, Kit Harington’s Jon Snow and Emilia Clark’s Daenerys Targaryen, ended up getting together, fans saw a glimmer of hope.

That was until the rug was pulled from beneath their feet and it was revealed that they were, in fact, related. Finding out that Daenerys was Jon’s aunt was certainly on no one’s Game of Thrones bingo card.
While fans were disgusted at this aspect, there was another reason why Harington was disgusted to kiss Clarke, and it is quite funny.

Harry Potter’s sidekick Ron Weasley played by Rupert Grint, has been a crucial part of the magical storyline – at least, that’s what is mentioned in J.K. Rowling’s books. In the novels, Ron finds himself on a hero’s journey while helping his best friend defeat the Dark Lord. But unfortunately, in the movies, Ron had become a person quite different from his book-accurate depiction.

Much like the films failed to show Harry’s brilliance as a wizard and portray Hermione’s wisdom beyond her age, they also consistently robbed Ron of his true qualities that made him a loyal friend. Particularly a part from Prisoner of Azkaban (often considered one of the best sequels), fans pointed out significant changes that were made to Ron’s character to readers’ dismay.

In the magical world of Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe is a hero to millions, but not everyone sees him through rose-tinted glasses. While fans have grown up watching him battle dark wizards and uncover secrets at Hogwarts, there’s a surprisingly unpopular opinion floating around—Radcliffe couldn’t act well in the first few movies. Gasp!

To many die-hard Potterheads, this critique is like Voldemort’s name—better left unspoken. Yet, for some, his early performances were more awkward than enchanting. But before you go waving your wands in outrage, maybe there’s more to this critique than meets the eye. Could it be that the Boy Who Lived needed a bit of time to find his spellbinding stride?

When it comes to iconic franchises with large fandoms like the Harry Potter universe, it often becomes impossible for audiences to imagine the series without the original cast – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. So it might be difficult for Potterheads to fathom, but Tom Felton had originally auditioned for both Harry and Ron, by drastically changing his look.

Ah, the Harry Potter franchise. It’s incredible how it’s still a mainstay in pop culture after all these years. The franchise continues to evolve beyond the annual movie marathons and the HBO 20th Anniversary special.
In 2023, a major reboot was announced. A new TV series will adapt each of the seven books in detail and aim for a 2026 release. This new project reflects the ongoing influence and reinvention of the Wizarding World for new generations.

It’ll be intriguing to see how much further the Harry Potter series can go, especially with the upcoming reboot, and where the careers of its now-grown stars will lead.
The original actors, who delivered such compelling performances at a young age, left an indelible mark on the franchise.

Despite J.K. Rowling’s attempt at turning Draco Malfoy into this sneering Slytherin bully, Tom Felton’s charm turned the character into a dreamy heartthrob, following the release of the films. Surprisingly, Rowling openly blamed the actor for turning the character into a desirable bad boy, while she boldly stressed his ruthless and jerk side in the novels.

Emma Watson’s role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise is timeless. Being one of the most iconic film series of all time, her character brought a specific kind of energy that Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliff simply couldn’t. Where Ron and Harry were playful together, being the perfect balance of humor and looking for trouble, Granger almost took on the role of a maternal figure.

With his eye for detail, Spielberg would have undoubtedly added his unique spin to the films. The Harry Potter films have always provided an immersive experience for their viewers. Chris Columbus found immense international success when he made the first two Harry Potter films. Following Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, Columbus returned to produce Prisoner of Azkaban. After that, he was not involved in any of the Daniel Radcliffe projects.
