Exclusive: Channel 4’s Speak Up whistleblowing facility was used more times last year than the previous three combined as complaints increased tenfold, according to a Freedom of Information (Foi) request submitted by Deadline. Meanwhile, one complainant has slammed the facility for being “seriously flawed” and escalated his issue to CEO Alex Mahon.
Overall, there were 24 complaints made to Speak Up in 2021, according to the Foi, compared to 12 in the previous three years combined, with only two registered in 2020. The facility, which keeps complainants and the nature of their complaints anonymous, launched in 2015 but data was only available from June 2018 onwards.
The sharp rise came after Channel 4 made it mandatory for all commissioned production companies to include details of the facility on their call sheets, in part to help highlight issues surrounding racism and Covid rule-breaking. The network also carried out “regular spot checks to ensure guidance is followed,” according to a spokeswoman.

George R.R. Martin’s Wild Cards, based on the popular book series, is set up at a new home. The project, which had been in development at Hulu since 2018, has moved to Peacock with UCP producing.
The Secret Circle creator Andrew Miller, who was previously attached to write and executive produce, is no longer involved in the project. But UCP, where Miller is under a deal, is currently in development with Miller on various scripted television and podcast projects. A search for a new writer is underway.
In Wild Cards, an alien pathogen known as the Wild Card virus is released over Manhattan in 1946, altering the course of human history. The virus rewrites DNA, mutating its survivors. A lucky few are granted awe-inspiring superpowers, while the sad majority are left with often repulsive physical deformities.
Martin, Melinda Snodgrass and Vince Gerardis, who co-edited the books with Martin, will executive produce.

Kevin Bacon has had a long and successful career in Hollywood. Spanning more than 40 years, he’s been in a number of hits including Animal House, Footloose, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13 and Mystic River. Just don’t ask him about Friday the 13th. It’s a sore subject.
But one movie that doesn’t get mentioned enough is the 1990 monster classic, Tremors. Bacon plays Val McKee, a not too bright cowboy who has two goals by the end of the film: kill the giant worm creatures and get the girl.
Tremors has become a cult classic and a couple of years ago, the Syfy channel made a pilot with the intention of creating a television show continuing the franchise. Get ready, Game of Thrones fans: Wild Cards is coming. Hulu has scooped up the sprawling 24-book series, penned by more than 40 authors and edited by Thrones author George R.R. Martin, and is developing two shows set in its universe.
In the Wild Cards world, an alien virus capable of reconfiguring people’s DNA was released in New York City in 1946. The majority of people who contracted the virus died, and those who survived were split into two groups: Jokers, whose brushes with the virus resulted in debilitating conditions, and Aces, whose infection gave them superhuman powers.
The series, which began releasing installments in 1987, is largely set in the present day of this alternate Earth, where descendants of those originally infected now carry the ‘Wild Card virus’ in their genes.
Variety reports that Hulu is set to open a writers room for the two series. Development of both shows will be run by Andrew Miller,...

Hulu has just secured the rights to George R.R. Martin’s sci-fi superhero franchise Wild Cards, which is a book series that he curates and edits. This is said to be a multiple-series deal, so Hulu may have found their own epic franchise.
According to THR, Hulu is putting together a writers room where they will create and build and Wild Cards series universe. There will at least be two series developed and Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle) will be writing those series.
Just in case you’re not familiar with Wild Cards, here’s a story description for you. This actually sounds like it could be a pretty awesome show if the right team of talent comes together to develop it:

Hulu is in early development on a pair of TV shows based on “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin’s “Wild Cards” book series.
The projects would create a shared universe on the streaming network, with Andrew Miller on board to write and executive produce two separate series. Universal Cable Productions, which bought the rights to “Wild Cards” in 2016, will produce along with Hulu.
Set in the present, the “Wild Cards” books explores the aftermath of an alien virus (dubbed the “Wild Card” virus), released over Manhattan in 1946 that killed 90 percent of those it infected.
In the survivors, DNA was altered, creating grotesque physical deformities, except for a tiny percentage who develop superhuman powers instead. Called the Wild Card virus, it has passed down through generations, and can go undetected until suddenly activated by a traumatic event — at which point the carrier is either killed, mutated or granted god-like powers.

You go, girl! When an online hater accused Sofia Vergara of possibly getting plastic surgery via Instagram earlier this week, the 46-year-old actress had the absolute best response to the mean-spirited comment. "Lately I've been noticing that you did something to your face... I can't find what but your face looks a little bit different now," the critic commented on a pic Sofia posted on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Then, without skipping a beat, the Modern Family star replied, "It's called aging." (Photo Credit: Instagram) Though Sofia has never admitted to going under the knife, she has aged incredibly well leading some people to think she has gotten plastic surgery. In fact, during an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, Dr. Vartan Mardirossian — who has not worked with Sofia — speculated that she may have gotten a nose job before she became famous. He also suggested that Sofia's gorgeous appearance might be due...

Fans are adamant that Kate Hudson has gotten plastic surgery during her career — more specifically a nose job! The 39-year-old actress is arguably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but critics still can't help but make their assumptions about her look. In a recent exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Dr. Vartan Mardirossian — who has never treated Kate —opened up about the pregnant star's rumored nose job. "[It looks like] she gained a great deal of dorsal projection. In other words, the so-called bridge of the nose is more prominent on the after photo. That could have been a cartilage or bone graft or even an implant that created that additional nasal volume and contour," he shared. "There is definitely some swelling or scar tissue that (still) interferes with the appearance, especially in the area between the eyes." Kate in the 1990s (left) and 2017 (right). Dr. Mardirossian added, "The nose is definitely...

If there's one thing that everyone knows about Kelly Ripa it's that she's stunning. The blonde beauty appears on her very own talk show, Live With Kelly and Ryan, every day, and with her all her different beauty and fashion looks, many fans have one question: Has Kelly had botox? Closer Weekly exclusively checked in with experts (who've never worked with the TV personality) to share what procedures they think Kelly may have gotten done. Dr. Vartan Mardirossian thinks it looks like she may have had Botox to the forehead. And Dr. Andrew Miller agrees. "While Kelly has a youthful face in general, she probably has had some Botox to the forehead to keep those wrinkles away," he shared. Dr. Mardirossian also said it looks like she may have had a nose job. "She has a refined dorsum, the tip is refined and a little underrotated," he suggested. (Photo Credit:...

Fans of Priscilla Presley can agree about one thing — she's changed a lot over the years! On Tuesday, July 17, she stepped out for a protest in La and onlookers couldn't help but notice a big bandage around her nose. That said, many fans are now curious as to whether or not Elvis Presley's ex-wife has gotten any plastic surgery. Closer Weekly previously chatted with surgeons (none of whom actually worked with Priscilla) to see what they think about the star's potential procedures. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) One thing that they all agreed on? She may have gotten Botox and fillers to stay so young-looking! Dr. Andrew Miller suggests he thinks "it appears that she has had a fair amount of fillers to her cheeks and probably Botox to her forehead." Dr. Adam Hamawy adds, "Looks like she has definitely had the help of fillers and Botox. She may also have had a well-done facelift,...

In the past, The Talk star Julie Chen has admitted to going under the knife: but have you ever seen the TV star pre-plastic surgery? During a past episode of her talk show, Julie admitted to a procedure she got done more than two decades ago to make her eyes look bigger after being told she looked like a "bored" Asian American during a TV reporting gig. "[My parents and I] had a long conversation about if it would be denying my heritage," she said on air. "You know, my mom calls one auntie, my father calls an uncle... it spread to my entire family. It divided the family. Members of my family wanted to disown me if I got it done." Julie before she got her eye surgery. If we could all agree on one thing it's that Bruce Springsteen is one handsome guy. But every time he performs fans wonder one thing: has he gotten any plastic surgery done? To answer that question, Closer Weekly exclusively chatted with experts (who've never worked with the music sensation) about what procedures Bruce may have gotten done over the years. And so it turns out, they all agree that it's likely been nothing. "Well, if you look closely, you don't really see signs of plastic surgery. The wrinkles in his forehead are deeper, so no Botox. His eyelids and neck are heavier, so no eyelid or neck lift," Dr. Andrew Miller shared. "His face is overall thinner now, so he probably isn't getting any fillers. The only thing I could possibly say is he may have had a small hair transplant — just something to keep his frontal hairline up." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Dr.

Actress Sandra Bullock always looks ageless — but that leaves many fans wondering whether or not she's had plastic surgery on her face. When the 53-year-old star stepped out for an interview with Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb in late May, many people thought her appearance looked especially different thanks to possible cheek implants and a recent weight loss, which some thought were noticeable at the 2018 Oscars. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Closer Weekly exclusively spoke with three experts — who have not personally worked with Sandra — about what Sandra could be doing to keep her face looking gorgeous and youthful. "It looks like Sandra is a regular user of Botox as far back as 2006. Back then, she was probably getting too much and whoever injected her [face] arched her eyebrows too much. You’ve heard of A Cold Day in Hell, but what about a glum day in the Tremors camp?
Sadly, that was very much the case over the weekend, when Syfy opted against developing its planned TV series starring Kevin Bacon as a much older, yet none the wiser, Valentine McKee.
A Cold Day in Hell remains unaffected by the cancellation – just as well, as it’s due to hit home video tomorrow – though in order to give viewers a taste of what could’ve been, Andrew Miller (h/t Bloody Disgusting) has unearthed a slew of high-res screenshots featuring Bacon as Valentine McKee, stained white tank top and all. They’re all included below, just after the actor’s original Instagram message about Tremors‘ cancellation.

Syfy has passed on its pilot Tremors, a reboot of the 1990 cult classic film headlined by original star Kevin Bacon reprising his role. Bacon confirmed the news in an Instagram post.
“Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality,” he wrote. “Although we made a fantastic pilot (Imho) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for Graboids!
Tremors, from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Television, was one of three pilots from Syfy’s most recent batch. The network last week picked up one of the three, Deadly Class, to series, triggering speculation about the fate of the other two. Tremors is now officially dead, with no final decision yet on the third, Run For Your Life, though I hear it also looks unlikely.

Did Ramona Singer get plastic surgery? The 60-year-old Real Housewives of New York City star has undergone a drastic transformation since she first hit the reality TV scene in 2007. The mom-of-one and divorcée has been very open about her cosmetic procedures, including getting her boobs done in 2016. "I did it for me," she said. "I wanted to feel sexier. I wanted to be able to look just as good with a brassiere as without one. And before, because I am over 50, let's face it, gravity hits. It wasn't hitting that badly, but I wanted to look perkier. I wanted to be perky the way I was in my 30s." The transformation began just a year after Ramona divorced Mario Singer, her husband of 23 years. "It made me feel good," the Connecticut native added. She also admitted in her blog to minor upkeep, such as Botox twice a year on her...

First of all, I just have to mention again how much I loved Annihilation. It's a true hardcore sci-fi film that any hardcore sci-fi fan will appreciate. Now that that's out of the way, let's move on to the news that there's another adaptation of The Beach in development.
The Beach was directed by Danny Boyle, and it starred Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie is based on the book that Alex Garland wrote. It tells the story of a young man who travels to Thailand and finds himself in possession of a strange map that leads to a solitary beach paradise. After he arrives and spends some time there, he learns that this tropical bliss that he heard about isn't all it's cracked up to be.
I actually liked the movie, but for the most part, it was torn apart by critics and it also ruined the director's friendship with Ewan McGregor...
