Protests on the red carpet: The build-up to the 74th Berlin Film Festival has been highly politicized and Thursday evening’s opening ceremony was no different. The ceremony began with a red carpet awash with political statements. The festival held what it described as a ‘Filmmakers for Democracy, Diversity, and Peaceful Togetherness’ demonstration featuring between 50 and 60 filmmakers. Meanwhile, a series of attendees used their time in front of media pens to display their own political messages. The most eye-catching included American filmmaker Eliza Hittman, last at Berlin with her Silver Bear-winning Never Rarely Sometimes Always, who had ‘ceasefire now’ stitched to the back of her dress. Exclusive: UK industry veterans Richard Kondal and Patrick Fischer, founders of financier Creativity Capital, have formed a new co-production company dubbed Big Safari.
The banner marks the latest edition to the duo’s portfolio, which also includes shareholdings in sales agent Architect, VFX house Koala FX as well as Creativity Capital.
Big Safari was born off the back of the Simon West-directed 2022 television series Boundless, which Kondal and Fischer produced while at Fulwell 73 with Mono Films and Amazon. The strategy for the new outfit, said the duo, is to set up co-productions that help close finance for international producers, whether through accessing soft money in European co-productions as they did for Svalta or finding a cost-effective co-producer further afield like they did with UK-Philippines co-production The Bayou. It will also look to help European films access UK talent and locations.

Though she is expecting to be “running around like a rabbit in the headlights” during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Poppy Delevingne has a pretty peaceful vibe about her while discussing her French Riviera schedule.
The actress, model and entrepreneur is back in Cannes as an ambassador for luxury jeweler Chopard so her itinerary is jammed with red carpet appearances and events. But she’ll also be squeezing in some project-related meetings and likely some handshaking as Delevingne has a film hitting the Cannes Market courtesy of Rohit Karn Batra’s timely tale The Gun on Second Street. Ahead of hitting the Croisette, The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Delevingne to talk all things Cannes, travel must-haves and the newest plans for her prosecco brand Della Vite.
You said in a 2015 interview with W magazine ahead of your first trip to Cannes that you were only hoping not to fall up the Palais steps.

Los Angeles, May 4 (Ians) Poppy Delevingne will star in ‘The Gun on Second Street’, a new drama from the Emmy-nominated Indian American writer, producer and director Rohit Karn Batra, reports ‘Variety’.
The film is described as “an allegory of the gun crisis in the United States”. Its plot follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street.
This, according to ‘Variety’, quickly escalates to a violent confrontation as Officer Tj Meadows III shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun.
Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatised, Meadows moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to his partner’s widow, Kacie (Delevingne). They slowly fall in love as Kacie confronts the history she’s been avoiding, including telling her 15-year-old son, Ralph, Tj’s back-story.

Months after sparking concern over her erratic behaviour, actress-model Cara Delevingne made use of her social media account to show off her unclad yoga session. The ‘Suicide Squad’ actress posted a photo of her doing ‘bare’ yoga. In the picture, which was taken from the confines of a cozy-but-snowy cabin, she posed in a perfect headstand. Though her face was out of the frame, fans pointed out that the tattoos on the ribs obviously match hers.
Delevingne is apparently taking some time to take care of her mental health following her erratic public appearances.
In September, the ‘Paper Towns’ star appeared unable to control her body movements while she was at an airport. At the time, the shoeless model was seen on the phone, bending over, dropping her phone and walking around looking very jittery.
Not stopping there, the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ actress was also snapped looking unhealthy...

Sadie Frost has been tapped for the lead role in “Boxed-Up,” a short film about mental health.
Frost will play Eileen, a dysfunctional mother who is processing the grief of losing her husband at the same time as exploring her fractured relationship with her daughter.
“After a devastating loss, a distant mother has 24 hours to connect with her daughter in a new age world where soul-devouring spirits use dreams to hunt the weak,” reads the logline. “The film explores the implications of losing a loved one in the heightened reality of its world.”
The short, which is written by Jamie L. Tree, is intended as a proof of concept for a feature in the manner of “Lights Out” and “Saw,” both of which began life as shorts.
Tree, who set out to make something different from a “typical mental health film,” is co-directing alongside Vlad-Paul Ghilaş[/link], who also produced the short.

Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Delevingne are a pair of unconvincing Welsh sisters dealing with terminal illness and creative blockages
The freewheeling improv style of Jamie Adams (who directed the daffy comedy Black Mountain Poets) hits a wall in his new film about a family Christmas in Wales. There are comedy scenes here that flatline and lightweight fake-feeling emotional moments. Model-actors Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Delevingne are the stars: they look pretty uncomfortable playing sisters visiting their folks for the holidays. Maybe it’s snarky to say, but with their gorgeous knitwear and expensive London accents, it’s hard to buy either of them dunking a Bourbon into a cuppa.
Waterhouse is Iris, a flaky-quirky, beret-wearing film composer who has landed a massive gig writing the soundtrack for a big-time Hollywood movie. The trouble is she’s creatively stuck, and anxious about her mum who is dying of an unspecified terminal illness.

"Hello all, I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be Ok,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn understand that this puts people at risk. This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgment. Given the restrictions," Rita Ora added.

First Look Media-backed U.S. streamer Topic has picked up the short film “The Hat,” starring Jude Law and Raff Law, and directed by Darren Strowger.
Shot during lockdown, with an original score by The Who’s Pete Townshend, the film marks the first time Jude Law and his son — who has appeared in other short films and stars in the forthcoming “Twist” — have acted together on screen.
The six-minute short was filmed on location in the U.K. during lockdown, and shot entirely on an iPhone. It follows a young man who wanders into the middle of a barren field, only to be interrupted by a mystery assailant who starts chasing him. Plans are in place to extend the short into a 20-minute film, and later, a feature-length version.
Strowger is best known as the co-founder of British tech firm Excell Group, but has been considering a move into filmmaking for a few years,...

What? What did I just watch? I am now in need of an intervention, which is sort of ironic, given that that is topic of our latest review fare: Spy Intervention.
The premise is not entirely bad. Agent Corey Gage (Drew Van Acker) is a super spy, running Bond-style missions across the globe under the tutelage of dubious sociopath Smuts (Blake Anderson). Then he meets and falls in love with Pam (Poppy Delevingne). So he renounces the service, and courtesy of a little light mindwiping, settles down to a life of suburbia and track lighting while pursuing a career as a cardboard box salesman.
But then comes the intervention. Baddy Doyle Egan (Max Silvestri) is back and looking to obtain a weapon. Ok. No-one quite knows what it is. It might be a laser. Or a nuke. Or…whatever. But it’s bad. And a lot of people could get killed.
