While hosting the 2024 ESPYs on Thursday, Serena Williams marked the occasion by sharing some sage advice.
“If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” she said as the song “Not Like Us” began to play and Williams crip-walked on stage. As the crowd clapped in approval, she added: “He will make your hometown not like you, the next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re gonna Forest Gump him,...

It’s been 10 days since Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out: Ken and Friends” concert, and the landmark celebration of West Coast artists continues to bear fruit. Now, Lamar, his pgLang company, Tim Hinshaw’s Free Lunch, and participating artists have announced a donation of $200,000 to charities and community initiatives in the greater Los Angeles area.
News of the donation comes from a Billboard report, which has a list of the 20 organizations that received funds, including Boys & Girls Clubs, Compton G.irls Club, Tommy the Clown Foundation, and many more. “We would like to thank pgLang and Free Lunch for recognizing their roots and supporting g.irls from the hood,” Compton G.irls Club founder Chrystani Heinrich said. “It’s refreshing to know that Kendrick always comes back to the community to support the next generation.”

Tyler the Creator reunited with fellow Odd Future member, Earl Sweatshirt, during his headlining performance at weekend two of Coachella 2024.
Joining Tyler for renditions of “AssMilk” (its first performance since 2014) and “Rusty,” Earl’s appearance marked the highlight of an otherwise guest-less set. Still, the joy the two expressed at sharing a stage again came across.
Calling Earl his “brother,” Tyler said, “I love this guy so fucking much.” After “Rusty,” the two embraced with a hug, and Earl turned to face Tyler’s stunning, desert-landscape-themed stage, saying “Look at the biggest show on Earth!” Watch videos of the performances below.
Elsewhere in his set, Tyler made allusions to another former collaborator: Frank Ocean. During the intro to the two’s duet, “She,” Tyler told the crowd to “sing the song” if they knew it, because Ocean was “not coming out.”

Childish Gambino is going out with a flourish. During a Gilga Radio Instagram livestream on Sunday (April 14th), the musical alter ego of Donald Glover confirmed he will be releasing a “finished” version of his 2020 album, 3.15.20, under the title Atavista.
As a follow-up, Gambino will release Bando Stone & The New World, a brand new project doubling as the soundtrack for his upcoming film of the same name. “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans,” he said.
While the rapper-singer didn’t reveal a release date for either album, he did say a music video for “Little Foot Big Foot” (originally titled “35.31”) directed by longtime collaborator Hiro Murai is coming in “the next couple weeks.”
Gambino also played a few previously unreleased tracks, including “Human Sacrifice” and the aforementioned “Little Foot Big Foot” featuring Atlanta rapper Young Nudy. Listen...

Updated with new wind numbers: Time to trade that tank top for a parka.
While mid-April temperatures average in the mid-to-high 80s in Indio where the fabled Coachella Music & Arts Festival is held, the next few days will be different. As Weekend One of the massive event featuring No Doubt, Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator and Doja Cat approaches, a high of 93 degrees on Thursday is forecast to dip, with Sunday maxing out at 74 degrees and the overnight low falling to 52. By the time Tyler, The Creator takes the stage just before midnight on Saturday, the temperature is forecast to be 54 degrees.
Coachella veterans will know the winds generally kick up in the evening, but the National Weather Service in San Diego on Tuesday forecast “a moderate to high chance (60-90%) of winds over 30 mph across mountain passes into areas of the deserts.” That’s been updated to a...

The Coachella 2024 lineup is here in all of its glory, and joining headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator, and Doja Cat will be two special ‘90s reunions: No Doubt and Sublime, the latter of which will perform with Jakob Nowell, son of the band’s original frontman, Bradley Nowell.

Lana Del Rey and Tyler the Creator are among the acts set to headline Coachella in 2024, according to a report from music industry trade HitsDailyDouble.
HitsDailyDouble further reports that Doja Cat and Peso Pluma are also in talks to perform at the festival, while Dua Lipa passed on a headlining slot due to timing issues.
The Rolling Stones, Olivia Rodrigo, and Travis Scott have also been in “talks” with the festival, but it’s unclear if any of those acts will end up on the lineup. Meanwhile, Shakira reportedly expressed interest to Coachella about a headlining performance, but the festival “ultimately passed on her—the reasons for which have engendered much speculation,” HitsDailyDouble claims.

For Teezo Touchdown, his sound started with his look. When the Beaumont, Texas singer/rapper went into the studio in 2019 to record what became the Panic at the Disco-sampling track “100 Drums,” he surprised himself by leaning hard towards rock influences — an approach that would become the template for his recent debut, How Do You Sleep at Night? “I already had made the change aesthetically of going to rock before I even did it sonically,” he says in the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now. “I was already painting my [face], I had the hair.

The Amazon Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has made a splash with its loaded soundtrack. By now it is safe to say that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and Taylor Swift go hand in hand because author and show creator Jenny Han has made it so.
The first season had five Swift songs ranging from her “Lover” album to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” and the Season 1 trailer debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” from the yet-to-be-released re-recorded “1989.” Season 2’s teaser was set to “August,” and then the official trailer debuted “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” shortly before “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released July 7. Only time will tell if Season 2 ties Season 1 for how many Taylor Swift songs it contains.
The sequel season’s summer-y soundtrack also contains hits from repeat artists Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Caroline Polachek and more. A Fleetwood Mac ballad punctuates a particularly emotional scene,...

It features a different beat than the take that appeared on the album and also does not feature Miller’s alter ego Delusional Thomas.

The excitement around Coachella often revolves around gigantic stars pulling out all the stops during major performances, and this year was no exception. Headliners Bad Bunny and Blackpink both made history — Bad Bunny as the first Latino artist and Blackpink as the first female K-pop band to hit the mainstage during the festival’s most coveted time slots. Frank Ocean’s set, meanwhile, built up plenty of anticipation and drama, especially after his chaotic show the first weekend and once news hit that he was dropping out of the second weekend.

Despite news reports that Michael B. Jordan is dating Amber Jepson, Et has learned that the actor is not in a relationship with the British model and remains single after his June breakup with Lori Harvey.

The rap nominations for this year’s Grammys came with a few surprises among the expected nominees. While field favorites like Kendrick Lamar and DJ Khaled got in, many were surprised by the inclusion of newer, buzzier acts like GloRilla and Jack Harlow. Still, the nominations did a good job capturing the state of mainstream hip-hop in 2022. But when it comes to winning, some artists may have it easier than others. Let’s consider who’s in the lead, and who might be able to upset them as well in Rap Performance and Rap Album categories.
SEEGrammy predictions: Can Tony champ ‘A Strange Loop’ hold off Michael Jackson in Musical Theater Album race? Best Rap Performance
This will be a battle between the two general field-nominated songs: Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5” and DJ Khaled and company’s “God Did.” On one hand, Lamar is a field darling and wins more often than not.

Right from the start, In Search of… stood out. I discovered N.E.R.D.’s 2002 debut at a Best Buy on the rim of Houston’s I-10 loop, sitting at the front of the store on a blue kiosk marked 6.99. I was a first-year high school English teacher, struggling to pull together all the things expected of me. Father’s Day and Juneteenth overlap this year, and there is no shortage of programming on television for the latter holiday, which celebrates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, and delivered the news that all enslaved people were free. Juneteenth has gained more awareness in recent years, finally becoming recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
Programming celebrating Black music, culture and more will run all weekend, culminating in the holiday itself on Sunday, June 19.

Exclusive: Jeff Frost, a 15-year Sony TV veteran, is stepping down as President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, a post he has held for the past five years. According to sources, his departure was a mutual decision. With the TV studio coming off a banner year — hitting an all-time high of over 50 produced series and making waves at the 2021 Emmy nominations — I hear Frost felt it was time to leave and start a new chapter. Frost just shared his decision with his staff; Ravi Ahuja, Chairman, Global Television Studios, announced Frost’s departure in a company email. (You can read both in full at the bottom of the post.)
There is no immediate replacement for Frost. I hear a search is in very early stages, and the studio has held exploratory conversations with a handful of seasoned TV executives. Frost will stay on through September to help with the transition.
