Drake has surprise released a trio of new songs through his burner Instagram account @plottttwistttttt on Friday, weeks after he leaked three other songs earlier this month.
The new songs are titled ““Circadian Rhythm,” “Sod,” and “No Face,” the latter of which features Playboi Carti. “Sod” appears to be the same song as “Supersoak,” the track that Lil Yachty had originally leaked to Twitch streamer Kai Cenat last month. Yachty said that there were sample clearance issues on the track as creator Mr. Hotspot had religious objections over the sample use.

The Rolling Loud music festival comes to Miami, Florida, on Dec. 13-15 at the Hard Rock Stadium. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the concert, returning to the city where it began 10 years ago.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Rolling Loud, festival organizers have assembled a worthy lineup. Some of the biggest (and richest) names in rap will be on hand, trying to ensure the Miami shows match the star power on display at Rolling Loud Los Angeles earlier this year. And just as impressive as the lineup is the individual net worths of each Rolling Loud Miami headliner for 2024.

Taylor Swift has the chance to add a whole lot more Moonmen to her collection after picking up the most nominations for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
Swift led the pack with 10 nods, almost all of which were for the visual for her Tortured Poets Department single with Post Malone, “Fortnight.” The clip is up for the night’s big prize, Video of the Year, offering Swift the chance to notch a record-extending fifth victory in that category. Unsurprisingly in a year in which she has dominated all other comers in recorded music and the live sphere, Taylor Swift emerged as the leading nominee for MTV’s Video Music Awards, collecting 10 nominations in the competition for the 2024 spacemen.

Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem and Ariana Grande tied for third place among VMAs finalists, with six nominations each. Sza and Megan Thee Stallion both picked up five nominations.
Moving ahead in the contest with four nods each are Olivia Rodrigo, Teddy Swims and, making big inroads as a solo artist, Blackpink’s Lisa. Tied with three nominations apiece are Benson Boone, Anitta, Dua Lipa, Tyla, Bleachers and GloRilla.

Ice Spice is charmingly indifferent to everything from designer clothes, to living up to industry standards, to the men trying to woo her in the wake of her meteoric rise to fame. The Bronx rapper’s brief but memorable debut album, Y2K!, revels in this disaffect, as well as her knack for catchy, viral-friendly bangers. And it also proves that Spice hasn’t lost the regional specificity that makes her version of drill so authentic yet accessible.
The album’s primary producer, Riotusa, infuses the sounds of classic New York rap—shifty menace on “Phat Butt,” triumphant horns on “Popa”—with the hyper-fast pacing of drill and Jersey club music. And in a likely nod to the pan-Caribbean culture of her home borough, there’s even some dancehall flavor courtesy of a Sean Paul sample on “Gimmie a Light.”
The drums on Y2K! are emphatic, with beats that simply knock.

Seemingly ever-dwindling attention spans have given commentators anxiety that people simply won’t care to engage with albums anymore. But time and again, artists have proved that they’re still committed to using the format to communicate a Big Idea, make a creative pivot, or announce a new chapter in their career. The album is still the most coherent way for us to understand where music culture is in any particular moment.
Indeed, as you can see from this list, pop music has gone country. Not only do the Billboard receipts and Beyoncé’s sprawling Cowboy Carter bear this out, there are copious twangs, pedal steel weeps, and pastoral narratives infecting indie music too (see Jessica Pratt’s Here in the Pitch and Waxahatchee’s Tigers Blood).
Beyond the country craze and several major returns to form from long-absent or fallow major talents, our list is marked by a dystopian air.

There’s a paradox at the heart of Camila Cabello’s hyperpop rebranding, for the way that it seemingly champions individualism but leans aggressively on current trends. Loaded with modish bells and whistles, Cabello’s fourth studio album, C,Xoxo, aims to capture the whimsical charm and energy of a flirtatious wink but lacks genuine spontaneity. Even as the music desperately tries to convince you of its unflappable bad-bitch mojo, many of the songs come across more like an annoying younger sibling begging for attention.
A more accurate comparison for C,Xoxo might be that of an adolescent impersonating an adult—the adult, in this case, being Charli Xcx, whose ditzy Auto-Tuned vocals are shamelessly copied at the start of “Chanel No.5”—and mistaking mimicry for mastery. This could also explain the album’s juvenile fascination with swear words and sexual innuendo, pushed to cringe-inducing extremes on “June Gloom”.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

When Chief Keef released his mixtape Almighty So in 2013, Obama was still president and the then-18-year-old Chicago Mc was something of a symbol for street violence, viral fame, and rap’s new cacophonous young generation. The tape, while far from a critical darling, solidified Keef, who’d risen to fame with his hit single “Don’t Like,” released when he was just 16, as a moment-defining talent. Fast forward more than a decade, two presidents, and a “vibe shift” later and Keef, now 29, has begun to age gracefully into an elder statesman of the genre.

Lana shocked the Coachella crowd Friday night by bringing out Camila Cabello for an energy-shifting performance of her hyper pop single “I Luv It.”

”This is an honor me, you’re one of my favorite artists of all time. Thank you so much,” Cabello replied.

For years now, Future has been skilled at playing rap’s favorite romantic anti-hero: the man, or character, baptizing himself in purple drinks to forget about bliss that has slipped away. Some of his best songs, like “Throw Away” or “My Collection,” can be both spiteful and vulnerable, like a dog dying of a virus that it can’t understand. It’s why certain men pore over his albums like they’re David Foster Wallace novels. At any given moment, a lyric or a snark will seem to effortlessly crystalize...

Drake’s new track “Push Up,” a diss directed at Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, the Weeknd, and others, had the rap world buzzing on Saturday. Then, shortly after, Rick Ross’ response, on “Champagne Stories,” turned a noteworthy day unforgettable. Hip-hop heads of a certain age were hit with a wave of nostalgia thanks to the way both songs were released. A clip of “Push Up” circulated on Reddit and Twitter before DJ Akademiks legitimized the track and played a studio-quality version on his stream. Then Ross sent his response to Akademiks just hours later.

Getting Camila Cabello’s latest music video for “I Luv It” across the finish line was a task that required some improvising and bribing. The Nicolás Méndez-directed video visual for the single captures the singer navigating car accidents, dog chases, wrestling matches, and more — but the song’s featured guest, Playboi Carti, shows up in a scene far less chaotic, rapping his verse in a gas station. In a recent interview with Los Angeles’ Power 106, Cabello detailed the real-life, off-screen chaos that complicated the shoot.

Camila Cabello is kicking off her new era with the single “I Luv It.”
The 27-year-old singer just dropped her new song featuring Playboi Carti and she accompanied the track with a daring music video.
“Certain things in our human realm do make me feel like I’m in outer space, and the very rare few times where I’ve had incredible chemistry with someone is one of them,” Camila said about the song. “Part of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. It’s unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I Luv It.”
The song will be featured on Camila‘s upcoming fourth solo studio album, C, Xoxo.
“I love it, I love it, I love it / Lemons on thе chain with the V-cuts / Lеmons in their face, watch ‘em freeze up,” she sings in the song.

When Atlanta trap maven Future first linked up with producer Metro Boomin a decade ago, Metro’s inventive, textured beats offered the Mc an avenue to explore darker, more adventurous sounds. On We Don’t Trust You, though, Future seems content to be set dressing for Metro’s elaborate production. At one point on their first collaborative album, he raps, “I’m over this shit 1000%,” and you believe him. With few exceptions, Future sounds like he’s going through the motions.
Recounting the hedonistic pleasures of wealth in a hollowed, tortured way used to be just one move in Future’s arsenal, but now it’s seemingly his whole shtick. Metro’s work is sometimes enough to carry a track like “Everyday Hustle,” which molds a pitched-up soul sample to both Future’s clipped delivery and the track’s percussion, reminiscent of J Dilla. And Metro achieves a tonal mutability on “Slimed In,...

The track on which he appears, “Like That,” prominently features Rodney O and Joe Cooley’s 1987 single “Everlasting Bass,” and Metro uses it like Three 6 Mafia did throughout their discography, from “Where Da Bud At” to “Who the Crunkest.” Thanks in part to the Mafia, “Everlasting Bass” has become an avatar of Jheri-curled hardness,...

Few rivalries in rap music are as intense as Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s. Along with sharing appearances on each other’s albums, the two have also shown respect for one another in interviews. However, the very things that have united them have also caused them to drift apart.
A controversy erupted when Drake made a derogatory remark about Lamar and his song, Control, back in 2013. The song was eventually pulled from the album due to sample clearance issues, and many rappers responded to it right away—just not the one Lamar seemed to want to hear from most.
Drake asked, “Kendrick is giving people moments, but are you listening to it now?” in reference to the now-famous verse of Big Sean’s song Control.

We Don’t Trust You, the new album from Future and Metro Boomin, is here (the first half anyway), and listeners are abuzz about the 17-song project. Coming in at approximately one hour, the project has elicited plenty of talking points in less than 24 hours. Kendrick Lamar pulled another “Control”-like move and got the rap world talking about his shots at Drake and J. Cole on “Like That” — which coincidentally overshadowed yesterday’s “Whole Time” freestyle from Big Sean, who originally put Kendrick on “Control.”

Think of the growing presence of Twitch streamers, or Ericdoa’s viral “Ninja Taper Fade” moment as an illustration of the overlapping Venn diagram between gamers and young rap fans. “Speedrunning,” a term that refers to gamers seeing how fast they can beat a particular game, has even made its way to the rap world, as young producers post videos of themselves recreating popular rap beats in record time.
