Dwayne Johnson, the former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood star, has built a reputation for his larger-than-life personality and physique. Standing at an impressive height of 6 feet 5 inches and weighing over 250 pounds, he embodies the perfect image of a tough guy.
It’s no wonder the US Army saw him as the perfect brand ambassador to boost recruitment numbers, which had been dwindling since 2013. In a whopping $11 million deal, the Army hoped that Johnson’s massive following could be enticed to enlist. However, the partnership turned out to be a massive misstep. But it’s not that simple, the inside story reveals a more complex web of contractual errors.

The Dceu began with ambitious plans to mirror the success of the MCU. Warner Bros. envisioned a decade-long strategy to bring some of DC Comics’ most iconic characters to the big screen.
Although the films were financially successful, Zack Snyder’s darker vision did not resonate with audiences, leading to the eventual dissolution of the Dceu in favor of James Gunn’s rebooted Dcu. Despite some movies being considered failures, the Dceu did deliver several memorable superhero hits. Because of this, fans have flocked to Ranker to vote for their top 10 Dceu movies. Let’s dive into their selections.
10. ‘Blue Beetle’ (2023)
“Blue Beetle” was one of the final films released under the Dceu banner, spotlighting the superhero of the same name. While it didn’t draw huge audiences to theaters, it was a solid film with heartfelt family themes and a great portrayal of the character. The exciting news is...

Dceu started out as a largely ambitious idea to replicate the success of the rival MCU. Warner Bros. came up with a decade-long plan to bring to the big screen some of the most iconic characters from the DC comic universe.
While the movies were profitable, the audiences disliked Snyder’s darker take on the characters and it was eventually disbanded with Gunn’s newly rebooted Dcu put in place. While some movies were considered to be disasters, Dceu did give us some timeless superhero hits. What can we say about the Dceu that hasn't been said already? It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, and one of those best of times was the world being introduced to the man who will go down in history as one of the greatest Superman to ever appear in live-action. Cavill brought something fresh to the table and, with the help of Zack Snyder, his Superman gave us a modern, gritty take on the iconic hero that fans had been craving.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to truly experience all that the great Henry Cavill had to offer. We didn’t really get to see him flourish as Clark Kent, and while he had his fair share of movies (five in total), we never got the true Man of Steel sequel he deserved. Cavill was primed for a franchise—a set of films that...

There is no redemption for the failure of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam as the flaw is found within its very core: the script. For more than ten years, he worked on what he called his passion project to help bring it to fruition, only to see it crumble right in front of his eyes.
Credits: Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam / Warner Bros.
The film was a critical and box office flop – and Warner Bros lost a lot of money along with a promising franchise that could have ushered a new dawn for heroes and villains. What’s more devastating was the fact that it tried so hard to bring back Henry Cavill’s Superman for a showdown, only to lose both of them in the end.
The Reason Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam Failed Big-Time
Black Adam didn’t come cheap as the Dceu film reportedly spent around $190–260 million for production.

The Bam Smack Pow comic book fighting tournament continues. The first set of fights were all superheroes. The bracket ends with some expected winners and unexpected losses.
Superman was taken out in the first round by Doctor Strange. The Man of Steel was winning early, but people voted more for Doctor Strange towards the end. Wonder Woman beating Zatanna wasn’t a surprise. The Amazonian is among the best in the universe. Thor dominated the voting against Invincible (no surprise there) as did Wanda Maximoff over the Silver Surfer. Carol Danvers beats Jon Stewart in a battle of space cops while Magento pulls out a win over the Hulk. Storm gets an upset victory over Wally West and Jean Grey destroys Hal Jordan in votes.
Now it’s time for the villains.

When Kevin Hart started out, he made himself the butt of most of the jokes in his self-deprecating standup routines. Now, he fancies himself as a Hip Hop mogul type, launching businesses left and right and producing a steady stream of TV shows and films. Unfortunately, this flurry of output in recent years hasn't all been that great. Earlier this year, Hart starred in "Lift," which topped the Netflix charts despite being yet another generic streaming flick quickly buried by the tide of "content" spewing forth in the streaming age. Prior to that, Hart tried to bring an air of prestige to his streaming exploits by convincing Wesley Snipes to play his brother in Netflix limited series "True Story." Sadly for the comedian, Snipes proved to be the best thing about the show.

As much effort as Warner Bros. and DC Studios put into the DC Extended Universe, it's always been ... well, a bit of a roller coaster ride. There are clear triumphs, of course, which remind viewers exactly why they fell in love with these comic book superheroes in the first place. But we can't lie. It's not always pretty. And there are more than a few trainwrecks along the way. It's undeniable that the Dceu varies dramatically in quality from film to film, even if fans can't quite agree on which ones are the gems and which are the disasters.
That's where Rotten Tomatoes comes into the picture. Imperfect as it may be, it offers up at least some kind of critical consensus for how we can rank these bad boys. Are each of the positions fair? Probably not, but life isn't fair. Maybe some of these movies should be held...

Henry Cavill might have moved on from DC after James Gunn’s arrival, but we cannot help but reminisce about his time as Superman every now and then. While the actor was perfect as The Last Son of Krypton, you could say that his casting went to waste as the studio was unable to utilize him as it should have. Henry Cavill was always passionate about Superman, but unfortunately, things were a bit underwhelming, especially when compared to other actors and their characters’ stories.

Blake Lively has always made interesting choices as an artist. As /Film's Hannah Shaw-Williams noted while writing about the larger-than-anticipated box office debut for Lively's romantic drama "It Ends with Us," the "Gossip Girl" alum is the rare actor to become "a reliable star of so-called 'chick flicks' i.e. movies overtly marketed towards a female audience" in recent years. This dates back to her breakout role nearly 20 years ago in Ken Kwapis' "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," a deeply earnest coming-of-age film that also happens to be about a pair of jeans that magically fits four teen girls with decidedly different body types. It's a good movie!
As she settled into adulthood, Lively continued to branch out, collaborating with auteurs like Rebecca Miller and Oliver Stone while primarily focusing on low-to-mid-budget, non-franchise fare at a time when such films were being banished to the direct-to-streaming realm. That's not...

Zachary Levi recently faced another setback in his career after the poor box office performance of Harold and the Purple Crayon. The film received negative reviews and could not seem to perform well due to the presence of films like Deadpool & Wolverine, Despicable Me 4, and Inside Out 2.
The failure came on the heels of his other huge flop last year Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The Dceu film was a box office disappointment, earning only $134 million against a $125 million budget. However, the actor seemed to have taken the failure in stride as a recent interview joked about the film.

Many of our readers know Henry Cavill as the actor who portrayed Superman from 2013 to 2022, including an uncredited cameo in ‘The Flash’ in 2023. With a strong fan base and a significant presence in the industry, we frequently cover his projects.
However, it appears that his star power has been waning recently, a shift that began with his involvement in the Dceu.
As you may know, Cavill’s portrayal of Superman was met with mixed reactions. While fans appreciated his performance, they disliked the darker interpretation of the character imposed by Zack Snyder. Projects featuring Cavill as Superman generally received mixed reviews. In 2022, Cavill was teased to return as Superman in the post-credits scene of ‘Black Adam,’ but after Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s unsuccessful attempt to take over DC Studios, Cavill was dismissed from the role. For most of our readers, Herny Cavill is known as the man who portrayed Superman between 2013 and 2022 (2023 if you count uncredited cameo in ‘The Flash’). The actor has a lot of fans and we’re regularly reporting on his ventures, as his name still holds gravity in the industry.
But it seems that his star power seems to be somewhat fading in recent times, and everything started with his role in Dceu.
As you’re probably aware Cavill’s career as Superman went down in infamy as fans liked his portrayal but hated the dark twist that Snyder has put on the character overall. All projects that involved Cavill as Superman received mixed reviews at best. In 2022 he was teased to be back as Superman in the post-credits scenes of ‘Black Adam,’ but following Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s failed “alleged” takeover of DC Studios, Cavill was fired as Superman.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" is a movie that is loaded down with surprises. The return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was just the tip of the iceberg. One of the biggest of its many surprises is Henry Cavill, the actor best known for his portrayal as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, coming over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play a variant of Wolverine himself. And while it's a small scene, it has a major impact. It's also something Cavill truly dedicated himself to, so much that he actually made himself sick.
Speaking with The New York Times, director Shawn Levy broke down the secrets of "Deadpool & Wolverine," which now ranks as the biggest "X-Men" movie in the history of the franchise. Speaking about Cavill's cameo as a different version of Wolverine from the Marvel multiverse, Levy explained that the actor spent the whole day with the character's signature cigar in his mouth.

Its focus will specifically be in the genre space, with plans to prioritize publishing and making films, TV shows, and games.
The company was founded by a team of comic industry veterans, including Kris Longo, who is heading up the company. Adam Schlagman (DC Comics), Mark McCann, Doug Pasko ("The Outpost"), and C. "Deadpool & Wolverine" turned cameos into an art form — quite an achievement for a movie that seems to sneer at the idea of film itself as an art form. Look, "Deadpool & Wolverine" is a grand old time at the movies, and taken as such it's a harmless piece of viscera-soaked, meta-joke-filled, cameo-stuffed entertainment. So, let's just assume you've seen the movie and enjoyed it on this level. In that case, you probably convulsed with glee at each new cameo that "Deadpool & Wolverine" unveiled, which would mean you basically didn't stop convulsing from the moment this cameo-fest kicked off.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the latest MCU release and has quickly become a major success with both audiences and at the box office. The film features several Marvel legacy actors reprising their roles and introducing new additions to the cinematic universe, including Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant.
Referred to by Levy as “Cavillerine,” this variant makes a brief appearance in the movie, yet manages to include several notable references in those few seconds of screen time.
As you may know, Henry Cavill played Superman in the troubled Dceu, with his last appearance teased in Black Adam, a film that was both critically panned and a box-office disappointment. Cavill was set to reprise his role with a new standalone movie, but the Dceu was officially dismantled shortly after his return was announced.
When Deadpool tells Cavillerine they’ll treat him better than “the guys down the street,” he’s likely referencing this debacle.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the most recent MCU release, and the movie is turning out to be a major hit, both when it comes to the audiences and the box office results. We all know who Superman is.
Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1938, wasn't the first superhero character in modern media, but he tends to be held up as one of the genre's central archetypes. His red wrestler's cape and red strong man's trunks, paired with his super strength and ability to defy gravity, have all become central symbols of what a superhero is, how a superhero should behave, and what a superhero looks like. Hundreds of thousands of superheroes have been invented since 1938, but many of those produced by mainstream comics outlets like Marvel or DC owe Superman a direct debt. In the same way that every on-screen Dracula is a riff on Bela Lugosi's performance in Tod Browning's 1931 movie, Superman is either being enhanced or subverted by every comic book superhero character. But he is the mainstay.

It would be very easy to tear Harold and the Purple Crayon apart. It’s the latest film in that dumb trend of taking animated characters and bringing them into the real world, something totally absurd film with little merit on a technical level. As I sat through the last act, though, I realized something simple: I was happier while watching this than before I sat down in the theater. At the end of it all, this manages to be a fun theatrical outing and something worthy of more than blanket hatred.
Harold and the Purple Crayon Review
The insanity begins within the first ten minutes of the film. Harold and the Purple Crayon is based on a relatively popular series of 1950s picture books (you might recognize the one with the baby drawing purple lines against a brown background). It’s all about this baby (Harold) and his crayon (purple!

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom came the end of the Dceu, otherwise known as the Snyderverse. And while some celebrate its demise, there are also many who mourn the loss of their heroes. But before we turn the page completely, let’s take a look back and rank the entire DC Extended Universe. I’m sure this won’t be controversial at all.
17. Suicide Squad (2016)
It doesn’t seem likely that we’ll ever get the fabled Ayer Cut of this film, but the one we received was rough. Filled with enough licensed music that it feels like a music video, Suicide Squad does everything wrong. From characters being introduced multiple times to the worst iteration of the Joker ever put to film, everything about this one is just a mess. If you love plots that don’t make sense and bad CGI, then this one is for you.

Audiences will be pleased to find out that the Merc with a Mouth has lost none of his fourth wall-breaking irreverence since crossing over from the Fox universe of "X-Men" films and their various spin-offs into the MCU proper, just as Marvel president Kevin Feige, director Shawn Levy, star Ryan Reynolds, and many more have previously promised. Despite the family-friendly Disney's involvement, the R-rating is made apparent right from the blood-soaked opening credits sequence alone, and the rate of F-bombs dropped into the action is enough to blow Feige's famous baseball cap clean off his head.

Updated: A worker at Trilith Studios near Atlanta took her own life on Wednesday morning, according to the local police. Sources say the deceased was a female Teamster and was working on Warner Bros.’ 2025 tentpole “Superman.”

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is currently filming in Cleveland, which has been transformed into Metropolis for the movie. Although Gunn promised that no spoilers would be shot in the open city, several cameos have been confirmed through set leaks.
In the past few weeks, we’ve seen Mr. Terrific, Lex Luthor, Rick Flag Sr., a mysterious villain likely to be Ulysses or Ultraman, Eve Teschmacher, and Lois Lane. More recently, glimpses of Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl have also emerged.
Both Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner appeared in full costume, and saying that fans are infuriated would be an understatement.
Many fans believe the costumes are cheap and a clear downgrade compared to ‘Black Adam,’ which featured Hawkman, Dceu’s Green Lantern. Fans are particularly upset that the suits appear rubbery and ill-fitting on the actors.
The downgrade is insane Wtf pic.twitter.com/rqj1Hhi...

The Justice League is arguably one of the best superhero teams in history. DC itself has a large list of superheroes from various planets, backgrounds, and universes. Unfortunately, because of the many heroes who join the Justice League, it seems that many superhero names are forgotten or less noticed. Names like Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, are the leading names of the Justice League members.
There are still many members of the Justice League who deserve to be given the chance to shine in the film. Here are some of them.
1. Booster Gold
While often depicted as an egotistical superhero from the future, Booster Gold is a member of the Justice League. He had his best time in the Generation Lost series, which was one of the best Justice League comics of the 2010s.

Now The Rock has a machine gun Christmas movie, ho-ho-ho.
Is it a stretch to say Dwayne Johnson has been in a bit of a slump of late? His return to wrestling earlier this year didn't go over well with WWE fans; his much-ballyhooed plan to change the hierarchy of the DC Universe with "Black Adam" and "DC League of Super-Pets" failed to pan out (but don't tell Johnson that); his Netflix action-comedy "Red Notice" was apparently watched by every single person on the planet yet nobody seems to remember a damn thing about it beyond the alcoholic product placement; and even his mega-expensive "Jungle Cruise" movie was the victim of a bungled hybrid streaming and theatrical release (although the tepid reviews probably didn't help).
Hoping to turn things around, The Rock is joining forces with his "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" and "The Next Level" director Jake Kasdan for "Red One,...

Jake Kasdan’s action-comedy feature from Amazon MGM Studios is set for worldwide theatrical release on Nov. 15. Red One centers on North Pole head of security Callum Drift (Johnson) and naughty-lister Jack O’Malley (Evans) teaming up after the disappearance of Santa Claus, who is known as “Red One” and played by J.K. “Are you saying Santa Claus has been kidnapped?” Evans asks in the trailer.
Rounding out the cast are Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Nick Kroll, along with Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Claus.
The film’s teaser poster was released in an Instagram post Monday and hinted at the story by showing a “Missing” poster for Santa Claus, who was last seen at the North Pole. “We need your help,” read the caption signed by Callum Drift.

There's less than a month to go until Despicable Me 4 arrives in theaters, and Illumination has released a new promo which takes a shot of Black Adam star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Warner Bros.' tax write-offs, and the MCU.
The pro wrestler and actor vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" in the DC Extended Universe with the 2022 movie, only for it to flop at the box office and bomb with critics and fans alike. From there, Johnson's plans to take over the franchise failed and he was promptly ousted when James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios.
As for the 100-year slate of "Mega Minions" movies, it's a tongue-in-cheek dig at Marvel Studios and its habit of revealing slates of movies and TV shows years before they're released.
It's all meant in good fun, though we're sure Johnson doesn't appreciate being made fun of in this way.

MultiVersus, the recently launched free-to-play platform fighter, isn’t shying away from a little friendly fire by poking fun at DC’s characters and actors. In a hilarious nod to DC Comics’ 2022 box office struggles via the film Black Adam, the game playfully throws some shade at Dwayne Johnson’s highly-memed statement – “The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change”.
MultiVersus Pokes Fun at a Certain Dwayne Johnson Statement
MultiVersus officially launched on May 28, 2024.
In a clip from the game, Joker can be seen interacting with Black Adam and taking a jab at him with the line “Weren’t you supposed to be rearranging the hierarchy or something?”. This is a reference to The Rock’s big push for the character to become a centerpiece of the old Dceu.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.
