Fiore (2022)
the legacy
A very simple story of XIV century . A book., a venerable man dictating.self defences schemes , the amusement of a young student and the beginning, like the end as inspired, real wise crafted frame of a story like drop of incandescent metal.
The story of Fiore di Liberi is more than one of returns to premodern reality but a precious lesson about courage, special skills development and the truth as legacy.
Indeed, the great point is the chain of impressive fight scenes , pure remarkable. But the story itself, familiar in its basic traits, from atmosphere to costumes and dialogue are more than familiar and splendid crafted.
Resta Con Me (2013)
emotion
The intense emotion is the gift, precious one of this beautiful crafted 8 minutes short film.
Two friends talking about different aspects. One of them seems had away from home and the news about his ex girlfriend, feelings of mates and a teacher about his absence, about his depressed mother, the two gifts offered are pieces of presumed portrait of teen sensibility.
The final is ...strange.
No doubts, for part of audience it was predictable or one of theories or a kick to see entire story in different light. But, obvious, it is a profound beautiful one and, maybe, the only reasonable.
In short, a profound admirable crafted short film.
The Zookeeper's Wife (2017)
the other matters
At first, I was sensitive at the unrealistic moments and scenes. But each of them covers the real facts , giving easy tools to viewer for understand the dramatism of situations.
I was impressed by the real animals , in a time of CGI as the fair option.
I admired beautiful performance of Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl. It is one of examples of generosity in critic times , about empathy and courage having as source high moral duty. The vulnerability of characters , the nuanced portrait of Lutz, the reactions of young Zabinski, the wise work of Niki Caro to reflect Polish society, the fair crafted tension are virtues of a film reminding the dark side of past.
Elevate (2022)
an evening
An energetic , good working security guard lady discovers a stranger on roof. He is the agency director and, step by step, grace a tour of building - he is often absent, working from home- , confessions about personal life, the relation between them becomes cordial.
Next day, her mate gives real bad news to Tiffany about Paul Mcdermont, the agency director.
A wise crafted story, admirable for definition of characters grace details - the attitude of Tiffany about homeless or the story about her second job and her son at college , like the confession of Paul about his relation with wife.
Beautiful performances of Tracie Thoms and Jason Butler Harner.
Not last, a profound inspired atmosphere, suggesting, in first part of film, the familiar horror ( it is not one ).
The result , splendid crafted melancholia.
Ain't No Sunshine (2024)
well used ambiguity
The chain of twists. This is the main virtue of film, the ambiguity, the ball of sugestions working more than decent in a story of clash between past and present, painful memories and suspicions about neighbor, the missing of young man who seems the son of the lady and the dark end.
Good part of fascination has as source the performance of Amelia Conway and the atmospher at border between nightmare and reality.
In same measure, smart driving of suspicions about Randy Harris , like the TV news about the young man. In short, wise crafted short film about revenge mental health and effects of lockdown.
Action vérité (1994)
an Ozon
Not very surprising if you do not ignore the filmography of Francois Ozon, it is a very short film about four early teenagers- two girls, two boys- and their version, of truth or dare , very...sexualized, not surprising for their age, in which each of them tries to demonstrate her- his gut with more and more provocative demands.
The freshnes of dialogue, the well crafted atmospher and the end determining the end of childhood for each of them.
Loving the work of Francois Ozon, I can be only profound subjective but this admirable short film, like each of his films, has the virtue of seed, growing up a time after the final credits in the mind of viewer as fair, honest, in part for this pretty shocking exploration of ordinary facts from near reality.
O, Glory! (2022)
Deborah
A psychiatric doctor goes, with his assistant, to an isolated country house. The brother of a a woman is preocuped by her mental health so, the help of doctor seems the fair solution. At first sight, a case of paranoia and hysteria and the visits of the two , daily , are steps to presumed cure.
But the things are not so easy or clear and the discover of brother naked, in the yard, in crucifixion attitude represents the first signal.
Two main virtues : te 1970 atmosphere and reference to classic horrors and the performances , not ignoring, off course, the cinematography. The development of story is not so surprising but the descending in madness of characters, predictable, is completed by strange UFO touch.
Get to the Wire (2023)
to survive
A dark story about detention, friendship, desperate gestures and care for family, about loneliness and the instinct as only tool for survive .
Well acted, in essence, a dystopian story, it is impressive for precise remind of basic, not so pleasant, truths defining us.
I was fascinated by the performance of Maia Abbas and Taj Aldeeb, each of them translating in inspired manner, the sides of assume of life in critic situation, the craft of personal answers, the perspective about future, the faith.
The final is one of essential parts of film, not original but beautiful constructed moment by moment.
Le retour du héros (2018)
charming
For acting, twists, atmosphere, tension, dialogue and, not last, for opportunity for Jean Dujardin to use his character like a piece of clay , Le retour du heros is pure charming.
Indeed, the heart of film is the splendid performance of Melanie Laurent and the inspired use of beginning of french XIX century for a chain of letters, lies, eccentric stories and a pragmatic business around a not existent diamonds mine.
The story of a clever crook and naive victims, about some drops of Bovarism and a society finding the cure for boredom. And , sure, about a great hero serving, in impecable manner, his interests.
Love, Take Two (2019)
BJ Harrison. and this is all.
The main motif, in my case, to see this film was the appreciation for BJ Harrison. The story itself is not very inspired crafted, the main actors are beautiful and, in some measure, this is enough, the critic moment is so forced and the end sounds pretty fake.
An ex, a TV show, few couples being frame for a single competitor pair who becomes not a pair, irony about virtual media obsession and familiar figures from Hallmark universe.
And the fair- nice- correct performance of BJ Harrison as mother of pretty confuse groom.
Nothing more except a bad used idealism and not so credible relation between characters.
A Paris Proposal (2023)
nice
It is a beautiful film. For mime, Pont Alexandre III, for mon petit chou and, maybe, for story and performances.
Like many other films, Paris ( in Bulgarian version, to ) is the real character of film. Near diamonds, cliches and effort of reasonable story about a forced lie, an important project, the bad competitioner and the unrealistic final.
Alexa PenaVega offers her familiar character , strong and vulnerable in same measure, Nicholas Bishop proposes a charming sebastian in difficult relation with his family and the reference to Parisian jewellers sounds not so bad.
So, familiar scenes, a too long film and couples in Paris.
The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
pretty nice
I saw it with my niece.
After, in secret, I saw it alone ( it is not so easy for an adult to be thoughtful under the comentaries of a 7 years old child who knows each detail of animation ).
And , it is a pretty nice film, more interesting for New York portrait . The adventures - decent, the legs of dogs- too fragile, the cat just charming and the hypothesis about secret life or the expedition to find Max- interesting.
The obstacle to be enthusiastic - I suppose my age and the different meaning about serious animation. But, sure, some influences from classics are good point and the life lessons, too human, are not so bad.
Not Yet (2022)
touching
A 35 years old lady is preocuped to become mother. The suggestion of medic is perturbated by a confession of her mother . And a ball of doubts, fears, incertitudes, feeling about the too heavy aspects of motherhood are revealed at dinner with friends.
The enthusiasm of husband seems enough to chnge the state of spirit of woman. But, real, is it enough ?
The main virtue of this short film is the fresh, honest and precise perspective about motherhood and its dilemmas after a specific age.
Nothing pink, ironic or clever.
Only a state of confusion , defining some women, the enthusiasm of man , imaginating the future and the pressure of too deep honesty of a free spirit , not less selfish mother about her hedonism perturbed by a sort of ...accident.
This makes Not Yet a touching film.
Heptapus (2023)
a sacrifice
First, I saw it with a serious dose of indulgence. A man, his precious dog, a dose with a dangerous intruder inside, becoming serious source of danger for guy , saved by his eroic four feet friend.
The price of courage of dog is very high and the owner , refusing, initial, to accept the truth, finds, with his wife, a form of revenge against enemy real...eccentric.
A film about adultescence and about nature against men .
About seduction of soap opera and armony in family after a form of sacrifice.
And , sure, about an octapus protecting its intimacy.
Nice, silly and, for some details, more than realistic.
Beep (2022)
price of silence
A dark comedy ? A soft horror ? Maybe, the fair definition is created by the dose of realism of critic situation. A man, living alone, is haunted by a beep.
Terrorized, he looks for find his source. All electronics are examined, all measure for return to silence , not ignoring a memory , are used.
And, after intense effort, the sinner is find. But the price of victory is not reduced and the silence comes in very radical manner.
In short, a seductive short film, a beautiful demonstration of good acting by Graham Fox and a real cold final. Easy to see it as well crafted parable in a society dominated by...beeps.
Wonka (2023)
imaginative, poetic. and Thimotee Chalamet
I do not know if I like it sounds enough. Because it is not the familiar Wonka and the imaginative solutions are very different by previous adaptations.
Sure, it is a story about Willy Wonka beginnings as chocolate master but the great good point is the fair use of ingenuity, Dickens touch, irony about cartels, nice hit to police corruption, the rich orphan theme and the friendship, the essence of late mother legacy and adorable performances of great cast.
Indeed, the emotion of childhood and the motives of fascination about a story, in essence, so simple, but full generous.
The gift - confirmation - Rimothee Chalamet is admirable ( sure, maybe except Dune ) but this film proves his great skills in magnificent manner.
Secrets at the Museum (2023)
awful
Crime and art.
More than interesting premise. Unfortunately, awful used. The young Natalie, performed by Madelaine Santos and her sunflower is one of ingredients of good start. Like the missing painting, maybe, like the accident.
But, for obscure motives, the role of adult Natalie is offered to Chelsea Vale the better, more- more- more better option being Stephanie Prata, par exemple . Because Chelsea Vale , with high profesionalism, massacrates the character scene by scene.
Second bad point - the confused, when it is not pure unrealistic, story. And the presumed twist, expected after the death of father. The romance ? It is an Hallmark, must be some romance ! Maybe not exactly, in this case. Because, poor Luke, poor Alex.
The Job (2006)
modest
At first sight, a modest short film saved, in some measure, by the final twist.
A young actor in a nightclub. A woman encouraging him to participate at a casting . The studio is a basement, of isolated building and the purpose of crew seems not so noble or artistic.
But a joke can have tragic consequences.
Indeed, the twist saves, in some measure, a film who seems animated by improvised story. But, after first view , the twist seems forced , absurd, pretty childish. And this becomes the main problem of The Job. Some cliches, some good intentions, accent on atmosphere, crumbs from film noir. I do not know if it is enough to not regret the eight minutes.
Black Boys Don't Cry (2023)
darkness of depression
I suppose, a special short film for its fair dose of realism. A film about depression and the loneliness around it, the effort to change the situation and the reactions of the others, the obstacles, good intentions of mates, answers of teachers and , after intense grief, a secure space for discover life after the darkness of this isolation.
Not exactly a film about black people but about sensitivity of teenager lost in his world , with intense feeling to be rejected by others. Inspired performance of Madison Ledyard King and wise construction of film by him at each level. The main virtue - the dialogue with viewer, not so far by. Evan experience.
Akron (2015)
correct
Not great, not memorable, but correct crafted.
A homosexual romance in veil of a tragic accident with Old Greek touch. Political correct, two beautiful young guys in main roles, nice performances, fair crafted tension and realistic portrait of youth angry, selfishness, conflict against parents and the fragile balance of perspectives about past and present.
The first part , for me, was, in some measure unrealistic, parents accepting so easy, so full generous the gay condition of son being almost bizarre. But, sure , it is only a detail. The essential problem is the honest perspective about sensitive aspects. And the not bad reconciliation after Christopher mother visit.
Important- the accident, maybe the most realistic part, reflecting habits about mall , stupidity of a crash, reactions of mothers.
In short, just a correct film.
Lucid (2021)
the self portrait
A young woman , Art student has as task self portrait. But her work is only version of previous self portraits so, under the irony of classmates and the indulgence of professor.
So, for better result, she rediscovers the memories from childhood, the lessons of father eviscerating a fish, the reaction of mother, the attitude of.headmaster of Catholic school about her eccentric creations .
Good friends help her for come to life a not at whole ordinarz project.
And the class represents exactly what you expect , in part, the main bad point of film , the reference to Carrie being, maybe, too ...superficial.
But, sure, a decent film, especially for flash backs.
Dati (2023)
a phone call
The subject of film can be, I suppose, understood especially by persons living this experience , as Rodolfo or Josh.
A venerable man telling to his grandson the story of motives of leaving Philippines for United States. Talking about his wife , prepairing her favorit food with the help of young man.
A phone call changes everything. First for the young man who must keep a terrible secret by his granfather.
Second, for venerable man who knows the truth feeling it.
A film about sacrifices, past and death. About reactions. Inspired cinematography, beautiful performances and fair portrait of impact of loss.
Goyo (2024)
beautiful
Beautiful. One of beautiful films for who is unfair to look for explanations. Sure, the themes, the acting, the humor, the atmosphere, the chararters, the splendid house.
But, especialy , for realism. The great virtue of Nancy Duplaa performance is to offer the portrait of Eva who you know very well from near reality.
The admirable work of Nicolas Furtado is to propose a familiar silhouette, to, not only reduced at Asperger circle.
The essential character is the family and the conection between its members , the indivitualities, the vulnerabilities and doses of selfishness and generosity.
In short, beautiful to great.
The Blessing Bracelet (2023)
more than nice
I like it for fair exploration of sensitive themes. For nice simplicity of bracelets. For the fair reference to faith, God, comunity solidarity. For dog and for return of husband and for trust problem.
Each of them just mazzers because ech Hallmark romance, having same recipe, can be interesting only for smart use of spices. In this case, sure, in old dusty formulas, the touch of religious area is inspired option.
In rest, familiar things, from single mother to the secret of her boyfriend, to the nice work of supporting actors - Marilyn Norry is the revelation of film, offering the so useful - realistic portrait of Pearl - and the boy working for his mom happiness.
In short, just beautiful surprising.
How Tommy Lemenchick Became a Grade 7 Legend (2018)
Ophelia
For me, lovely defines this short film in plenty manner. First, because it reminds all the pieces of middle school life. Second, because young Charli Birdgenaw and Sam Ashe arnold are just..fantastic in the main roles.
In short, the desire of a girl to be...kissed.
The selection of candidats from class mates. The bait. The occasion after some expectations. And the surprise next day at school. But she is clever, he is big mouth. So, she must be ...the knight. And, indeed, the role is perfect performed.
The great ingredient - the voice of adult Ophelia reminding , after years, the episode. And the precise way to craft...a school hero.
