Chronically Metropolitan (2016)
What a yawn!
I can't decide if this is a failed movie about a dysfunctional family or just a failed movie. There is no plot and the characters are weak and uninteresting. Everybody is so undecided about their lives. And please tell the son to get a haircut. Its not interesting, its annoying. My rating of 7 is overly generous. I watched the whole movie but kept checking the time.
The Making of 'Psycho' (1997)
Excellent Documentary
Excellent behind the scenes of the movie. Great comments by some of the actors, the screen writer and assistant director. Lots of insight. Great comment about first appearance of toilets in a movie. Great comments about the shower scene. A truly scary movie especially for 1959.Hitchcock was one of the best directors before computer animation took over.
Adaptation. (2002)
A good movie but depressing
I found this movie very depressing including the ending. The actors were very good but it was still depressing. Hard to follow the plot. The characters all seemed depressed with their lives and drifting aimlessly. This is not a "feel good" by any stretch. Nicolas Cage does a great job playing 2 characters but this too was hard to watch. He was very tormented.
Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner (2007)
Wonderful Movie Recapping Bladerunner
This is a great movie of a great movie. Ridley Scott is a great director. Dangerous Days captures so much of the original movie. You don't have to understand every shot in the movie just enjoy it. It had a large impact on all the space movies to come. So many later movies copied elements this movie. Very well done.
The Beast Within: The Making of 'Alien' (2003)
Excellent Documentary
So many great interviews by the actors. So many great clips of scenes. So much behind the scenes the make the movies even better.Again Ridley Scott did a great job of directing. Sigourney Weaver did a great job in her first role. The special effects were excellent as was the action. The fear seemed real. A movie that still looks good after all these years.
Unlocked (2017)
Very Enjoyable
A very good movie with a very good cast of characters. I watched half last night, came back tonight and watched it again right through. Lots of plot twists to keep you guessing. Great action. As good as any Bond or Bourne movie for action. Fight sequences were great. You will enjoy watching this
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Unwatchable
Guy Ritchie is a great director but this is not a great movie. Only watched 1/2 hour then turned it to read a book. Same old tired remake of King Arthur. Nothing new. Nothing riveting. Reminds of people who watch Star Wars or Star Trek in costume trying to become like the characters. These are only movies. Just fiction not real. Can't change your life watching this movie unless you want to sleep well.
John Wick (2014)
Fair is generous
Keanu Reeves does not act in this movie. This is simply another violent copy of so many other movies. I can't think of anything positive to say about this movie. I am half way through John Wick 2 and can't watch anymore. With so many people raving about these movies I am sure a third one is already in production. Too bad.
Before I Fall (2017)
Awful
Awful. A complete waste of time. Don't know how it got a rating of 6.4. Maybe I watched a different movie. I struggled thru 30 minutes then fast forwarded it thinking it would get better. It did not. I turned it off. The acting was sophomoric. If watching teenage girls get drunk and treat everyone badly and you yourself are 15 maybe you will like it. This is a chic flick without any redeeming qualities.
Dreamchild (1985)
Interesting movie
A darker view of the book than I had imagined. The Henson puppets are so out of date they detracted from the rest of the story. I was surprised by the sexual overtones between Carrol and Lucy. And Lucy's mother threw all of Alice's letters from Carrol in the fire. Why? She seemed to suspect something also. But overall an interesting movie that gave a different look than Alice in Wonderland.
Hollow (2011)
Awful
Resembles Blair Witch Project which I've never seen. All the hand held camera shots do not work. There is a reason professional actors are paid so much. They are good. These amateur actors, if you can call them that, are awful. I watched first 1/2 hour and bailed. This is a complete waste of time.
Styria (2014)
Long and Boring
Lots of potential but no PUNCH. It does not follow through. The actors seem to be sleep walking through their roles. Probably fault of the director. Completely unsatisfying ending. Filled with clichés and scenes that done better in other movies. I kept thinking the movie was finally going to make the viewer jump but did not. Ultimately not worth the time or effort.
Get Out (2017)
Great horror film.
Amazing thriller/horror movie Best I have seen in several years. Never heard of the director but he is amazing. Not that much gore but enough. The whole family was wacko. It was so intense and filled with paranoia I almost had to turn the lights on. A lot of cheaper horror films should take lessons. Plot was strange but it worked.
The Shootist (1976)
A Great Western Movie
John Wayne's last and perhaps best movie. A great cast of actors. Wayne's performance is understated but confident. He defined the meaning of a Western. All of his movies were characterized by independence, dislike of authority and freedom. With this last movie he went on on a high note. The director Don Siegel did a great job of recreating the town and era of 1901.
Sicilian Vampire (2015)
Awful
Overly long and boring. Speaking a lot of Italian does not make it authentic. Neither a good mob or vampire movie. Some good actors but the directing was lost. A waste of 2 hours. I almost turned it off several times. Cute cameo by George Chuvalo. This movie has made in Canada all over it. And I am Canadian.
