ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) - A 6-year-old boy and his father have been found dead in Michigan after not returning home.

According to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was first reported missing from the Mt. Pleasant area on Monday, and he was last seen with his father.

The sheriff’s office received a complaint that day from the boy’s mother who said her son was supposed to be returned to her custody.

Deputies responded to the father’s residence, but they couldn’t find anyone home.

Over the next 24 hours law enforcement attempted to locate the boy and his father several times.

The investigation continued and detectives tried to find family or friends of the father, eventually finding a sibling who also couldn’t get a hold of him either.

Authorities said a family member decided to break out a window on a camper that was at the back of the property, which allowed them to see a man who appeared to be dead.

Law enforcement responded to the property and used a breaching tool to get into the camper where they found the bodies of the father and son.

The investigation revealed it appeared the man died by suicide after killing his son.

Isabella County authorities did not immediately release the names of the family involved while the situation remains under investigation.
