ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) - Police were called to investigate an explosive device, but it just turned out to be a movie prop.

The Roswell Police Department said a public works employee was working in a neighborhood when they spotted what appeared to be an explosive device.

The “explosive ordinance detection K-9 team” responded and quickly determined that it was a movie prop thrown away by someone working in the film industry, according to police.

The prop was disassembled and thrown away.

“It’s a very convincing device and it is a prop for a reason because it’s made to look like what it is meant to mimic,” Roswell Police Officer Tim Lupo said.

Authorities said the movie prop caused a scare in the neighborhood, but that they are thankful it was nothing serious.

“It perfectly illustrates the principle of ‘see something, say something,” Roswell police said in a statement. “If you ever come across anything suspicious, don’t delay, call us right away.”
