warrant

Primary tabs

A warrant is a writ permitting or directing someone to take a specific action, often issued by a judge. It authorizes law enforcement personnel to conduct activities such as making an arrest, searching a location, or seizing property. Warrants are typically based on probable cause and must be supported by an affidavit detailing the reasons for the requested action. They ensure that law enforcement actions comply with legal standards and protect individuals’ rights against unreasonable searches and seizures. See Search WarrantFourth Amendment.
